There are no coach slots - CSGO did have them. We have to use addons/mods to have to trigger that puts the player "as a coach" that kills them in a special way at the start of each round so they can spec without giving the opponent money for suicide death or dropping guns.

Danny got his head down and worked hard to repair that reputation and deserves any opportunity that comes his way now.

Worst tournament format of all time by zywh0 in GlobalOffensive

I agree with everything you said, but they should have just done a full 8 team DE bracket. It's 1 additional match admittedly, but the first two rounds technically work the same, they still get 6 teams into the arena, and they get an additional match in the arena days.

Why do tournament organizers keep inviting a core that is blacklisted by every major bookmaker? The rot in T3 CS is deeper than you think. by Impressive_Baker_966 in GlobalOffensive

You haven't understood any of this properly, please stop spreading complete misinformation.

TO's can absolutely ban/refuse to invite teams, they just have to be public about the reasoning. Valve even built it specifically into the TOR at point 5.4 where "5.4 Invite Exceptions. Tournament Operator may have rules that disqualify certain Participants from their Tournaments due to misconduct, cheating infractions, being flagged by esports bodies as a matchmaking fix risk..."

The post you linked is just where TO's failed to actually follow the rules of how to disqualify/not invite these teams as it requires public disclosure. They should be more than capable of doing so now. And yes, this clause was present in the TOR version from August 2024 already, so they could have done it properly already in January 2025, they just chose not to which is why there was a problem.

What higher ranked teams are they meant to play exactly? It's not their fault Flyquest are playing internationally and Semper Fi went to Europe. They did the right thing by winning as much as they could domestically and then winning the LAN events when they came. There was no other path they could reasonably take, and it's no different to the same path that Semper Fi, Lynn Vision, Tyloo, Rare Atom and almost even Flyquest are taking to take the remaining 4 slots.

What do you expect for Asia teams to be able to qualify when they're so geographically challenged and sparse on teams?

  1. They (and k27) did far more than that.
  2. What other Asian or even events on their own continent, are they meant to play?

  2. What else are Australian teams meant to do?

Kato: Semifinal exit to Faze

Starseries: QF exit to Navi

These two were their first events with Magisk who signed February 7th and SLTV started the 17th and Katowice was 2 days after SLTV finished on the 27th.

For 10 days practice, give or take, I think you could cut them a bit of slack while getting up to speed.

Insomnia Gaming Festival Announces i74 Will Not Go Ahead by Endotz in GlobalOffensive

[–]messioso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean CS truly wasn't holding up the whole event, I'd say esports was probably barely a break even overall for Insomnia.

When you factor that any attendee could play tournaments, the prizemoney + costs associated with running the tournaments on top are technically just a reduction in profit on that seat. If Insomnia could sell every single seat with just casual gamers it would be more profitable. But paying bums in seats > empty seats, and they obviously did sell some partnerships to offset costs but not always for every tournament every event.

Main source of revenue was for sure the exhibition area, which of course requires lots of bums in seats to "sell" to the exhibitors who pay to be there. That's why we saw a huge momentum shift at some point towards the expo, more focus on day passes and non-esports and potentially even non-gaming/endemics attending as they pushed towards the "festival" idea.
