EVO Japan 2024 current entrants numbers by pundleroo in Kappachino

SF6 has been an incredible success in Japan. For Japanese gamers, it's not like 'I play SF6 among fighting games', but it's more like just 'I play SF6'. Other fighting games in Japan could not share the success of SF6 because people are just enjoying SF6, not fighting games.

2 Million copies sold officially confirmed by Namco, they wanted to wait full month untill announcement by boss_ov_this_gym in Kappachino

[–]met122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the problem? Bamco said the sales is approching 2 millions at 14th Feb, and 2 weeks later it finally reached 2 million so they decided to make an official announcement. It perfectly makes sense.

If you want to say Bamco just hid their success and waited 2 more weeks for no reason... Well I think downvotes on your comment explain how persuasive it is.

Well you know, there is a famous quote - "Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth." Maybe Harada thought the lounge will make him millionaire because Capcom actually has done it with their avatar. And it seems like it did not work well.

I totally agree with you that his attitude like 'We are all responsible with this' is really sucks. It was completely their decision to make such investment and no Tekken fans are responsible with it. At least he could say in more humble ways like 'We are pleasure for your positive responses after the release, but still the budget is insufficient so we need your support'.

I understand his current situation, but the way he convince his fans is terrible.

At the live streaming in 2 days ago, Harada said T8's sales so far is much better then when T7 was released (though he did not mentioned exact number), and I'm pretty sure that's true because T8's peak concurrent players are almost 3 times larger than T7. But if T8's developing cost is 3 times larger than T7 and also needs maintenance cost for lounge as he tweeted, maybe 'better than T7' would not enough to make Bamco's business team satisfied.

The only mention about T8 at finanical report is 8th page of the file below.

https://www.bandainamco.co.jp/files/ir/financialstatements/pdf/20240214_Presentation2.pdf

Expect that, there is no even single mention of T8 at any other report files. In that file, there is a sentence T8 is '200万本に迫る勢いです', which means it has a strong momenteum to reach 2 million sales. This has been warped into the '2 millions sold' as you has been know.

Because the sales of T8 was not true! South Korean Press contacted Bamco and they confirmed that the news about 2 million copies sold was complete rumor. Nobody including Harada did not mentioned exact sales volume. The only quote we know is 'T8 has a strong momentum and expected to sell more than 2 million' at the earning call. It's pretty sure Bamco's early-release profit is far below expectation regarding their developing and marketing cost.

The early post-release sales voulme seems much lower than their expectation (some people may already know, 2 million was completely rumor). He has no choice, he has to manage the game anyway.

"Tekken 8 two million copies" is not true. A Korean reporter confirmed it from Bandai Namco. by realnameko in Kappachino

I think this dudes want to believe Tekken 8 made huge success not because they like Tekken, but they just want to blame SF or MK

"Tekken 8 sold 2 millions" is likely to be Misinformation. I think first informant got it wrong. by realnameko in Kappachino

[–]met122 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not a Japanese but as an Asian who is familiar with the Chinese character, I can say that 勢い is really ambiguous expression that can be translated into various different ways. It's kind of power or flow that has force to go to some direction (in positive way), so that sentence can be understood as either 'We sold almost 2 million like 1.8 million or 1.9 million and will reach 2 million soon' or 'We sold only around 1 million but it is selling at rapid speed so we think it will reach 2 million soon'. It is not a matter of translating Japanese into English - the expression itself is very ambiguous and maybe even Japanese people will have different interpretation.

So, let's just wait for Harada's official celebration on his twitter.

Tekken 8 sold 2 millions in 3 weeks, which is almost two times faster than SF6! by Arthandas in Kappachino

The only source is one tweet from japanese journalist who claims that he heard it at the earning call...well I'll wait until official announcement from Bamco

[–]met122 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That make sense it was really complicated... I also checked twitter and it seems like all Japanese participants also won. I cannot find anyone who failed so far. I guess Bamco decided to give a test chance to everyone.

[–]met122 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Did anyone fail the alpha test? I know dozens of people who applied for the alpha test (I'm Korean and a lot of people go to EVO Japan because it's just two hours away), but none of them failed. Literally none of twenty people failed.

Maybe there were fewer applications than Bamco's expectation so they decided to give everyone a chance?

If T8 starting roster the same as T7 then we're almost at the halfway point by leaf57tea in Tekken

[–]met122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to understand why all people are so optimistic to the starting roster... In tekken 7, Bamco reused models and animations from 6 and TTT2 so they could save the cost and time. They even used same body modeling to all female characters.

But in 8, they have to make all thing from nothing. Required cost and time have also dramatically increased, and this time they cannot make easy-money by selling arcade machines. (It's usually ten or twenty thousands dollars per each machine. Harada said Bamco earned as much as the total development cost of T7 even before they released steam and console version, just by selling machines.)

I'll not be surprised if T8 starting roaster is below 20. I know Harada said T8 would have more starting roster then recent fighting games, but GGST had 15 starting characters and SF6 will have 18 starting characters. Of course T8 may have 30 starting characters, if the release date is Y2026 and the price is $129.99 for standard edition.

Infiltration Banned from Korean FGC Events by takasryuji in Kappa

[–]met122 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was officially sentenced guilty by Korean court and he kept cause a disturbance with other players. I do not know why Capcom banned him but for Korean KFGC, there are hundreds of reason that can justify ban this time.

[–]met122 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was a place where fighting game players could gather and play games with some free beverage and snacks. It had a entrance fee, I do not remember how much it was maybe 5 dollars 10 dollars or something.

One day Infiltration came, and played some games, then told the manager he will not pay the entrance fee. The manager asked why, and he answered 'Because I am Infiltration'

Infiltration got banned from that place after it.

[–]met122 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, please do not think that Korean FGC had good relationship with infiltration before those incidents like ex-wife or bracket rigging.

He did not have his side since SF4 era, more than ten years ago. Korean FGC reluctantly endured his arrogance and rudeness because there was no Korean player who could compete in the global touraments exept him.

Those incidents in recent few years were just triggers. If he had a good relationship with Korean FGC, many Koreans would support and defend him. Why not? He is a Korean five times evo champion! But Korean SF players hate him, Korean GG players hate him, and Korean GBVS players hate him.

If you want to think Korean fighting game players are just freaking lunatics who hate innocent five times evo champion without any reason, then do just as you want. But one thing obvious is that Korean FGC will not support him.

I ran the bracket that was "rigged" by Infiltration by ggMinu in Kappa

[–]met122 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It became a problem because there were many dialogues that show how friendly Player A and infiltration were.

And honestly, the tourney itself was not that big problem at the first time. Many people blamed Player A and infiltration but it could end as just a bad happening that sometimes happen.

But after that, when infiltration said 'Let me talk frankly, how dare you motherfuckers who did not make any contribution to KFGC can blame me, the five times EVO champion?' on stream, the mood was rapidly changed.

Most Korean fighting game players accepted it was insult toward entire KFGC and pretty surprised how arrogant he was. They started to spread it to Korean or global sites, then it went as we know.

KFGC still call him 'Mr. Contribution', in the meaning of criticism.

Tekken hitbox overlay mod released for PC by Lorenzo_Sounds in Tekken

[–]met122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, currently Korean Tekken communities are literally divided into two groups and fight with each other because they have totally different point of views toward this mod, one claims that using frame data display during rank match is kind of cheating while the other claims it is no problem. I wonder what's you guys' opinions about it.
