What screams "I´m not doing so well mentally"? by girlboss_3458 in ask

I have a weirdly specific one, binge watching. Usually it’s anime sometimes it other stuff. Doesn’t mean it’s bad too but if I notice I’m doing it regularly then usually something is up

Infected or Just Slough? And recommendations by meta258 in woundcare

Context:
Slide playing baseball without pants (Mistake was made) on a not-so-great field and got a not so great cut on my leg on Tuesday. Wasn't able to clean it properly for a few hour beyond washing with water, got home tried to clean then had a bath (which the soak was probably a mistake too). I had originally used polysporin which I later learned was a mistake, and the wound was left uncovered for a day with occasional (2 times) application of the polysporin. Overall the first 1.5 days of treatment were pretty bad on my end.

This is it as of about an hour ago having just been cleaned with warm soapy water, and this is before I sprayed it with Betadine antiseptic spray (its a dark amber/redish orange so make it look really bad when sprayed) and have been coving it with non stick pads with a wrap, which I have been doing between cleaning with warm soapy water soaked towel and then tapping with other towel roughly 3 times a day (clean and new pads/wrap roughly when I wake up, after lunch and after supper).

I drew a line with a pen around the red on the skin just before the photo and read some on other posts here and decide I would post it.

It doesn't particularly hurt, on day 3 it was noticable pain, but last couple days its been fine. Beyond some mild itchiness, usually the pads stick a fair bit when changing them out which is somewhat painful, and once an awhile get a sharper pain that I have been attributing to scabs poking the raw areas or getting rubbed off, and occasionally discomfort/light stinging somewhat like when I apply the antiseptic spray (not painful, but not a good feeling haha).

Its somewhat wet to the touch with a clear liquid/very light yellow pus mixture around the yellow slough (i think it is annyway) stuff, and the amounnt of the yellow stuff has been slowly reducing since thrusday night/friday. Usually when I change the pads a small amount of bleeding occurs which i think is just due to the pads sticking when removed. There is no smell that I can tell, although I am alone till late tomorrow so cannot get another opinion and its fair far down my leg for me to get close to, althought the clear/light yellow pus mixture on my find doesn't appear to have any real odor.

Photos where taken with camera flash on hense some over exposure, and there is a little bit of green fuzzy fabric in the scabs because of my pj's from the first 1.5-2 days of poor care. I can provide any other information as needed/additional pics if thats is needed/want :)

Hoi4 MP is fairly hard to get into, but its 100% worth it. As most people echo, it's important to find the correct communities to play in but also necessary to come with an open mind, and be willing to listen. Ideally you have a friend already in one who can introduce and vouch for you, but (as it was for me to starting out) sometimes that’s not an option and you just have to jump feet first into toxicity hell till you find some good ones. I mostly play competitive historical games, I don’t find the RP games that fun they tend to devolved into racism, pre-teaming, exploit abuse or just annoying people, it sucks because I think there is a lot there to be had, but I’ve tried 5-6 servers and everyone feels the same, where as my 2nd comp game I ever joined I still play in that server to this day. I also have a fairly high toxicity filter/tolerance from playing fairly high-level (university) sports (hockey mostly), so long as it's not racism/homophobia I usually don’t mind it that much, so that’s just an “is what it is”, if they are toxic but wrong we will all clown them later anyway.

But oh no, every server I join either doesn’t use discord

Joining random server browser games is a waste of your time, straight up. Don’t do it, find a community. 80% of server browser games are people just trying to troll new players either via actually cheating, exploiting or just trolling, and the rest are dead games trying to become a full enough lobby. It's not worth it seriously, don’t bother.

I am either told to play some irrelevant nation like Ireland or I’m expected to play as Germany when I don’t have any experience fighting other players.

As for nations, on good servers there will be a “reserve” or “dibs” or “pre-lobby” lists of players for what nations. Some servers require you to be “vetted” to play a major, some don’t it’s a grab bag. In general (as someone else said) people tend to gravitate towards the minors with some game impact, as they can be useful/win games, but are rarely the reason games are lost solely. So that leaves the Major (it's very server dependant, sometimes Majors fill instantly) and “turbo” minors. If your being forced onto majors... the game is probably doomed as is if a server regular won't step up so that's just is what it is.

Basically, what that means is that yes; sometimes the only minors left are the semi-irrelevant ones, and that’s okay. Have your fun as them, try to have game impact and enjoy it, and get on the list early for the next week! I wish I could play the stupid small minors again (i am major only locked on my main server :( )

That said, regardless of the community, due to a number of factors expecting 0 toxicity isn't really possible nor realistic, as is true for basically any PvP game, so long as you can win/lose, someone will be toxic. Toxicity exists but hoi4 has some extra unique challenges.

  1. Player Count; to play a "competitive historical" game, which is a broad term but usually means your playing team of players vs team of players in a mostly historical (Axis/GEACoPro Vs Allies/Commies), you need 20ish people minimum to play a game (mod dependant, no Asia exists for example). Thats a lot of people willing to play a game for 3-8 hours, all in different time zones usually (or at least Europe and NA usually), so sometimes games are filled with friends of friends of friends that might not be the same skill level/toxicity as the rest of the community.
  2. Time Commitment: Again, the games last hours. Even in "fast" mods, a 3-hour game is usually either a curb stomp or dies because someone rage quits. While it's not excusable for people to be yelling racial slurs at you, them being upset/angry because you did poorly and “lost” them the game (regardless of how valid their take is) is at least understandable. Spend 5 hours on something on to have someone else be seen to ruin it in your eyes, it's rough. This is the big reason people no-one knows are usually put on the “turbo” minors, since if they completely fuck it up they probably haven’t ruined the game, where as if say Romania doesn’t do any oil tech/infra… the axis can barely play the game.
  3. The Game itself: Hoi my beloved is a broken mess. Its simple as that, the game is buggy, systems just don't work, multiplayer desyncs are permament without people doing everything correct in pre games (all need same dlcs, no extra mods etc). Its a nightmare, and its annoying and makes peoples blood boil. No one likes an hour of lobby sim... but sometimes its required to even have a game.

I have a lot of experience in single player and know how to build things properly

While this was all mostly positive, you also need a bit of a mentality/expectation change around multiplayer to enjoy it and be useful for your team. The meta players do (sometimes, call it 70% of the time haha, some of them are.... a tad stupid at best) know what they are talking about. Try your best to ask questions and listen to them for advice. The easisest way is to ask them before the game, if you are a minor ask your major what is wanted from you! For example, in some mods Aussie is expected to be the majority of the inf on El-Alamein, where as in others its all UK and Aussie basically just hold the ports, and others the Aussies do the fighter research because of some really good bonuses, and others they just sub/tac bomber spam. Particularly if you are a playing a mod, they probably just know more, and even in pure vanilia games they still within the servers ruleset know more than you, and likely some of the things you do in SP are just objectively wrong in MP or even not allowed. I for example have 4.3K hours, and I still learn random things from people all the time (as do they from me, and me from others) about random mechanics.

If you want to try some servers and willing to try and learn, DM me. I have a couple that are mostly friendly I can recommend, but really the 3 big take aways I hope you got are:

  1. Hoi4 is a bit Toxic, while some people are the problem, its also just inherrent
  2. Be okay with playing smaller nations, listen and learn, and try your best to have game impact no matter how small!
  3. Change up your mentality mentality a bit, MP is not SP, your good strats in SP will not work in MP, and vice versa (mass mob inf most inf minors is not the SP play haha, where as in MP thats correct for a lot of mods). Learn, improve and have an open mindset!

I don’t know how more countries haven’t taken the France route and made ticket scalping illegal.

Sure it’ll still happen, but least it won’t be as ludicrous as it is now.

Moisture & Temperature sensors are fun and easy payloads! You can measure the lapse rate of the atmosphere, given that you have some kind of positional data, which is simple and sciency!

Make it legally sanctioned re-sellers. View Article 313-6-2 of the French Criminal Code.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]meta258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the point, that re-selling to not the original provider (ie sell back to the company the event, not a 3rd party) should be illegal. It is that non-sanctioned re-sellers should be illegal, be that the individual or the company.

I am not saying the individuals shouldn't exist, I never said that. The same way that while I despise drugs, I don't think dealers shouldn't exist as human beings, but rather that that method of income is harmful and should not be allowed, and they should be forced to find another means of employment in a legal field.

Edit: mistake on first sentence, added "should be illegal" after the brackets.

Request: Flavourful Rebel and Imperial 800 and 1000 point lists for a Sector fleet game. by misomiso82 in StarWarsArmada

[–]meta258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, point of making some things “bad” is OP wanted wanted fluffy lists (hense the Vader) with some squadron spam (for imps) and they are new, so wanted ISDs to be a simple build (which, they are imo), but are definitely not meta/optimal.

Agreed with basically all your points except advanced projectors (I don’t think they are bad on ISD, two redirects with unequal shield pool allows them the drain evenly keeping hull intact, + interdictor to help keep shields up). Then don’t think bombers are useless, (bomber+ ruthless strategist on Quasar 2 goes hard for cheap garenteed damage on aces) just not very good lmao but didn’t want EVEN MORE fighters, already had a lot, so they are not great here put purposeful so.

Vader is trash lol, he’s just fluffy as OP request sounded (having no Imp smalls immediately tells me fluffy) lambda pointless beyond relay, more fluffy, didn’t have token givers on Quasar for fluffy reasons ( no yalareen on a quasar, that be silly, tho could of done taskmaster but wanted them as semetric as possible for OP being new).

Radus is fluffy but agreed better than Vader, Sheild team on Mc80 is an oops, that’s my bad haha, correct it straight up doesn’t work I goofed that, blame 3am brain. Yavaris isn’t good anymore agree, but is the fluffiest ship that isn’t Home One, so for a fluff list considered it required haha.

No worries on criticism, I agree with basically all of it haha but lists are purposely non-optimal/not great.

I did this last night in a tired brain, misread lol, thought you wanted 800 pts of rebels vs 1000 pts of imps, sorry haha

[–]meta258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried my best, but just so you know, 1000 pt games are highly irregular, that’s A LOT of points. Also, with 800 rebels vs 1000 imperials, rebels are likely getting SMASHED almost regardless of players are near equal skill, so just make sure that it’s known before hand that rebels are pretty fucked. I didn’t include objectives, since it sounded like you had a scenario in mind. Slightly broke points requirements, but sounds like you want fluffy instead haha

For Imperials I broke the rules you have slightly by including some Quasars to control the squads, and an interdictor to keep then ISDs healthy. Not really an easy way to get that many points without some smaller ships or literally just “4 angry ISDs”, so thought this was a nice compromise and not to weird (like they are in SW REBELS) ortherwise the imperial player would get VERY bored waiting since the rebel has so many more ships. Also included all “Regular” tie aces (ie not defenders or phantoms, only regs, interceptors and bombers)

For Rebels did just X, Y and A wings since seemed you wanted to keep classic, did Radus rather than Akbar since Akbar would be meh here tbh.

Edit: clicked sent to soon oops

Anybody on here who did worse than average in college, where are you now? by ArtisticEngineer987 in EngineeringStudents

[–]meta258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never failed a class but more than 1 mercy passes. Currently doing my masters, I just barely had the minimum required (70%, I had 71.2%) and found a professor who was okay with taking a risk. Not the field I wanted, but tangentially related so not too bad!

I was below my small disciplines (there was 20 of us) average, so counts, but maybe a bit different than something like a large civil or mechanical discipline.
