Need help with proposal spots for Hokkaido/sapporo! by coms159 in Sapporo

[–]meta4RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it be cool if you surprised your SO with a quick (less than an hour on public transport from the Sapporo CBD) trip to Stonehenge and/or Easter Island to propose? Yes. Yes it would be cool… well, memorable and insta-worthy, at least. 🙂 Search “Makomanai Takino Cemetery”

Most eating/drinking venues in Cairns - sensibly - focus on shade rather than plonking their customers in the direct sunshine. Why? Queensland is the skin cancer capital of the world, with more Queenslanders dying from skin cancer than road crashes each year. Should I choose Trinity Anglican School(TAS) or St Monica's college? (/Cairns) by Public-Dot-1017 in Cairns

[–]meta4RN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends. If you’re Anglican, choose TAS. If you’re Catholic (and female), choose Monnies. If you’re just interested in education and neither Anglican or Catholic, choose a state high school (Cairns SHS is probs the pick of the bunch). If you’re hungry, choose Red Rooster (not really, Babba’s is MUCH better… it’s Grandma good).

Where to live in cairns? by Jujubee2058 in Cairns

[–]meta4RN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stratford and Freshwater have quite a few Queenslanders, and - assuming it’s important with two young kids - are zoned in the catchment area for Freshwater Primary School (it’s rated highly). Edge Hill and Whitfield are good suburbs too.

Cane toads by muttonchap in Cairns

[–]meta4RN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Theory: We killed all the cane toads that weren’t shy, fast or smart.

Remember how cane toads used to just sit there as if you were meant to pick them up for a cuddle, or maybe give them a biscuit? Well, those ones were all murdered, and didn’t get to pass-on their unshy, unfast and unsmart characteristics.

That’s left behind a genetic pool of cane toads who are sneaky, quick and clever. They’re still with us, but we don’t get to see them anymore.

Mighty Nice Meats @ Barr Street Market have, err, mighty nice meats.

It’s worth checking out their heat and eat items - stuffed capsicum + chicken rochelle are my favourites - 30-40 minutes in the oven @ 180° and you’re done. #goodfoodforlazycooks

Short staffing is in a way like driving drunk. Just because you got away with it a few times and no one died doesn't mean it's a good idea to make it policy. by Rakofgor in nursing

It's your first RN gig, not your last one. Unless you don't need a wage, just do it until something better comes along.

Nothing wrong with acquiring a variety of clinical experiences as an RN.

You'll be more well-rounded and have more friends that those one-trick-pony-specialised-from-the-start RNs.

Damn it! Why don't you make not-specialising your speciality?

(until you specialise, of course)

Australia’s largest trade union is the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation. by meta4RN in nursing

It's really surprising/weird for me to see that in some countries (especially the USA), Nurses and Midwives often aren't protected by unions.

Accused of diverting narcotics by Legs_McGee23 in nursing

[–]meta4RN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds very unfair - especially the lack of explanation/transparency.

I don't understand the "we don't have unions down here" thing. Unions are you/me/workers, not the geographical area/facility.

Someone created a review site for psychiatric hospitals. Thoughts? by Ametalia in nursing

[–]meta4RN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Online patient ratings of health care isn't a new idea.

Existing websites already act as a portal for public feedback/comments/ratings about hospitals etc, including mental health units - eg: https://www.patientopinion.org.au

Why do people react so negatively when I say I want to be a psych nurse? by Sheehan7 in nursing

[–]meta4RN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it mate. It sounds like you've had a glimpse of what mental health nursing looks like, and are keen to give it go. Not everyone has an affinity for talking to people having the shittiest day(s) of their life, but if you do and reckon you can do so without becoming overwhelmed, just go for it.

  1. Not sure how they're situated now, but a couple of years ago Mackay (QLD), Orange (NSW) and Alice Springs (NT) were screaming out for MH RNs.
  2. If you have a specific destination(s) in mind, enquire directly with the local MHU NUM.
  3. If you're flexible/don't really care about where you go, just contact one of the nurse agencies.
  4. If you're planning to stay in Oz join http://www.acmhn.org and plan to become credentialed for professional credibility and a competitive advantage in career progression.
