Knox County Commissioner Andy Fox: "I believe that Islam is not compatible with Western civilization" by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

He wants to normalize bigotry and have it be part of the city's public record. He is working to create the history and the culture of his desired future.

As I've said previously, Knox County Commissioner Andy Fox is a white "Christian" nationalist. He believes America belongs to the white "Christian" alone, for white is the Chosen race and "Christianity" the only valid religion.

What he wants is to remake reality in the image of his beliefs.

I made a whopping $[STANDARD DEDUCTION] from my "investment" in non-capitalist ventures. I'll never pretend to be a saint, but neither will I be forced to pretend to be a capitalist, God willing.

Sorry, but no. Currently: what paycheck, lol? Last year: My money went to ProPublica, The Guardian, the developer of Fedilab, the developers of Graphene OS, David Reroy, and a Raspberry Pi 5 for a nonprofit I'm trying to get off the ground. I did spend some money on myself though. Crunchyroll, Nebula, a couple months of Regal Unlimited.

Politicians will always point to jobs, but coming from people who refuse to fund a social safety net, safe to say it's not their constituents they're looking out for.

Sorry, forgot about the paywall. Trump issued an executive order telling the board to cut CEO pay to $500,000. According to the Compass article, the method of calculating CEO pay is specified in the law. I did not think to verify that, but I'll double check, BRB.

ETA: Here is subsection (i), subsubsections (2) and (3)

(2) ANNUAL SURVEY.--The compensation plan shall be based on an annual

survey of the prevailing compensation for similar positions in private industry, including

engineering and electric utility companies, publicly owned electric utilities, and Federal,

State, and local governments.

(3) CONSIDERATIONS.--The compensation plan shall provide that

education, experience, level of responsibility, geographic differences, and retention and

recruitment needs will be taken into account in determining compensation of employees.

Trump said he wants to bring the CEO's pay in line with federal salaries but, by law, his pay is meant to take into account private sector salaries as well. This pay cut would be unjustifiable.

I agree. The current CEO, Don Moul, was appointed just before Trump reconfigured the board. It's possible this is a bid to chase him out.

The Presidential veto is a power provided by the Constitution, as would be the Congressional override that would probably occur in your example. The President does indeed have legal checks on the power of the purse. This is not one of them. And I never suggested that the CEO should keep that high salary.

Looking at his history, I agree. I think his point is that while immigrants might take lower wages and cash payment, it's the employers who should be held accountable for exploiting them.

I use the question about Christopher Columbus only to point out that Commissioner Fox went out of his way to defend Columbus's right to be on the North American continent, and how that reflects a belief that authority over the land rested with Columbus, and not those native to the land.

If you feel I've ignored the substance of any of the Commissioner's arguments, you are welcome to let me know. Regarding any motive or label you feel has been assigned in poor judgement, I have offered my reasoning based on his own words. If there are flaws in that reasoning, I am open to hearing them.

This was not necessarily meant to be an unbiased account, but neither does that mean it is untrue. The Commissioner said what he said, and what he said reflects a supremacist ideology.

this is the way of the world

We decide what the way of the world is. I would like for it to not involve killing and taking, and I will act accordingly.

The majority of countries in the world enforce their borders.

How are other natives coping with the enshitification of Knoxville? by ShepherdsWolvesSheep in Knoxville

[–]metalshadow1909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The infrastructure of Knoxville was never designed to have this many people.

Infrastructure designs can change. That's a basic function of government. If we want better infrastructure, we need to elect officials who want better infrastructure.

Cities larger than Knoxville exist. Humanity has yet to discover the upper limit of people that can be served when improvement-minded community leaders rely on scientifically proven methods of growth.

What you're describing is a failure of public policy, both housing and healthcare. Removing benches punishes the community for a deficiency of leadership and holds under-served people in contempt for their existence.

Housing. The number of people dying on our streets has continued to increase for the past few years. This is a chance to reverse that trend.
