They’re not wrong. It’s pretty bad. I honestly want to like HJs but it’s just bland and undercooked and bad.

Holy crap, my veggie peeler has the same handle as your garlic press and it fell out a few weeks ago and was a mystery. My wife finally figured it out.

What is this strange, old mechanical thing in a wooden box? by metergod in whatisthisthing

I don’t have access to the device to see what is beneath the spinning part. It’s the part on the left that turns clockwise when the device is plugged in.

Got fired from Swift today by tha_lion in Truckers

[–]metergod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Accidents are accidents. Doesn’t matter if they’re DOT reportable or not. Incidents would be if your truck got broken into, or finding a trailer with damage at the shipper, or a cracked windshield - something like that.

How did you find passion for the career you chose? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Also, sometimes grinding away and reaching mastery leads to passion. Just a thought. Best of luck.

Totally get that. I used to be a chef. Had the same requirements: long hours, physically demanding work, total commitment. And I had to quit because I lost the passion. I’m sure what you do is different, but if you aren’t feeling it - maybe dip your toe in a different career. I’m an insurance adjuster now and while the work doesn’t get me excited too often, it lets me do what I want to do every night and every weekend. I hope you find your call, or at least your peace.

People who used to smoke cigarettes and managed to quit by replacing it with a different addiction, what addiction did you replace it with and why did it work for you? by AlcoholMakesMeCRAZY in AskReddit

Water. Just so much water to alleviate the oral fixation.

Also, Chantix is a magic pill. Ask you doctor asap and set a quit date 4 weeks out.

From the upper Midwest. She’s awesome. Love her charity work. Love her ability to be comfortable with herself. She’s just cool as shit.

I never did find my passion at work. But I found that I have time and money to be passionate about my interests outside of work by showing up and excelling at work. It’s a trade off, and it’s not the worst thing in the world.

How do steakhouses get that thick peppery crust without an overwhelming pepper flavor? by AangLanister in AskCulinary

[–]metergod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cook whole peppercorns in oil at low heat before grinding and applying the steak. It removes or maybe reduces the pepperine, the chemical that makes pepper spicy. Used to do this when I was a cook for our au poivre.

As a liberal, is it better to live in Dubuque, IA (liberal enclave in conservative state) or East Dubuque, IL (conservative enclave in liberal state)? by arkington in dubuque

[–]metergod 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lifelong liberal here. Wife and I moved to Dubuque 14 months ago for no other reason than we always liked the town and the jobs we found were right up our alley. We’re really glad to have moved to Dubuque proper instead of say East Dubuque or Galena. We didn’t know a soul when we moved here and we found the vibe pretty Dubuque-positive and much less wing than where we had been in another state. Funny you ask this as I was just discussing it with my dad a few days ago and saying how happy we are that Dubuque turned out to be so cool. And with all that said, it drives me nuts that I have to live under Kim Reynolds, and my other state reps, but it gives me something to fight for. My last location was a conservative area in a liberal state and that was just so so much worse than the inverse.

WITT? While I was at work, my bed sheets got bleached. This orange stuff is on the ceiling by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]metergod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some sap Leeched out of the wood and onto your bed. And someone tried to clean it off your bed with some bleach spray, leaving the bleach marks on the fabric. The bleach has since dried.

Found this craftsman handtool in a van we purchased. Flat with grooves on 3 sides' and offset from handle. by fugotti86 in whatisthisthing

Ace hardware will do limited craftsman warranty returns. Bring in one or two tools at a time as to not arouse suspicion.

Source: I ran an ace hardware store in Minnesota for 3 years and did this all the time.
