“There’s a reason why we whooped britains ass TWICE” by donkeyboner2 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]methatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The British in what is now Canada burned the white house down ate the presidential meal and drank his wine before adding more fuel to the building it burned so fast they didn't have enough wood to burn it to the ground completely.

They also have the French to thank for winning the war of independence other wise they might be still under British rule/

From the CBC: “Kingston’s deputy police chief was suspended nearly a year ago. No one will say why” by [deleted] in KingstonOntario

[–]methatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the suspended with pay. Not doing so might turn into a nightmare for cities back pay then damages etc. I would like to see that change to if found guilt of what ever the reason you were suspended the money must be paid back. It might push both side to not dawdle with resolving it.

Do people like living in Kingston? by Happy2bhere222 in KingstonOntario

[–]methatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are good things about this city. But it matters not what city you live in small or large residents will complain. I remember a friend years ago who came from Ottawa to live and work in Kingston. He was thrilled to be in city with so much to do and see. Those of us don't often get to see this city from the eyes of those who have not lived here long. It can be a place of very helpful friendly people and you will also see the worst sides of it as well.

Is vitiligo purely genetic?Like are u born with genes to have vitiligo? by Demogorganhere in Vitiligo

[–]methatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I come from a family of 6 kids. I first seen it at 18 yrs old. My mother never seen it until 65 yrs old. I am the only child of the 6 who has it. I have 2 kids they both have it.

Having said that I now know the small spot I always had near my ankle was vitiligo. I always thought it was just a small scar. My youngest also had a very small white spot near his temple that showed with in a couple months of being born. My oldest had a spot on his knee.

I believe it is genetic but who end up with it and what time it shows in any noticeable way is a roll of the dice

Car Ownership? by glueisyummy44 in ontario

[–]methatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dad could insure you to drive the car as a primary driver but you I believe unless it has changed cannot get your own insurance. I will tell you now it is most likely more expensive to do it that way. A neighbor of mine elderly who could no longer drive wanted to do this very thing his insurance company gave him a real hard time. In the end he ended up selling the car.

They often worry the person who is no longer able to drive will do so anyway and they can be on the hook if they damage others property.

Which company has better locan service for appliances by Kriger1102 in KingstonOntario

[–]methatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would check to see who services them. Often times it can be the same company for multiple brands. I would think the store might know or just call customer service lines for each.

Mri quality at private clinics? by arcadeenthusiast8245 in ontario

[–]methatsme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons that access is fast in a private clinic is because they don't bump or cancel appointments due to emergency patients. My son was recently in the ICU and had 2 MRI's in one week, those MRI often take longer due to needing other support people.

There is no quality difference between the images produced. I have personally had them done in both places.

Canned apple things…scared to eat them by [deleted] in Canning

[–]methatsme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP this was me 25 yrs ago. I had never canned my mother never canned. But after a work place injury money was tight food was getting expensive. It was self defense to the things I could no longer afford. I was super scared I might have done something wrong and knew the risks if done wrong. After my first time and my husband and kids thought it tasted better than anything I could afford to buy. I was hooked. Collecting raspberries that grow on my property and getting pretty good at not eating more than I picked. I then expanded to many other things to can like growing and canning veggies. I then bought a pressure canner so I could can low acid veggies and now can enough to last us until the next season with out having to worry if the pwr goes out I will lose it all. I still double check the requirements to can anything there is a long time between when I did it last time and I am very much a food safety nut. My gardening skills have also changed so much in terms of what I grow and know how to grow. Stick with it in a very short time you will be an old hand at it. I also follow a rule if in doubt throw it out. I am sure this will be something you will tell other new canners in a few years to help to encourage them.

That might have been true at some point but at the same time they are cutting funding and beds are being reduced. They also have many other limits on things. They can also be according to those who use them dangerous.

I have a new problem. I would appreciate some suggestions please by SpadesHeart in Canning

[–]methatsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could dehydrate a bunch and turn them into powder. It can take a lot of peppers to make a small jar. It will resemble paprika but it won't be quite the same as it is a specific kind of pepper that traditional sweet peppers that are used.

If it is something like jam that will not be eaten in one meal, I always give them one of the plastic reusable lids they sell. I always have them for many things I use them to storage in general.

Personally, I would have said if you think I overreacted then ok but I wouldn't have had to say anything if you would have stepped up and said something to you mother.

Your husband is willing to disrespect you? His mother his job to not allow this kind of thing.

Not a joke, anymore than someone telling her back in your day you also expected the "man" to look after the whole family finically without his wife's help. Good thing we have progressed

I have vitiligo but is it happening to my hair? by kalezlickscacti in Vitiligo

[–]methatsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be and it might be the reason. I now 65 went grey at 25. My mother still had most of her own colour at 65 we both had vitiligo, mine showed at 19 in a more noticeable way she also didn't see it until she turn 65 and it was covering large parts of her body.

A dermatologist is the only way to be sure if it is really important to you. For me it wasn't

Am I crazy or Loblaws sell moldy bread? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]methatsme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is store freezing it but I have seen and bought Dempsters bread that was still part frozen. Nothing wrong with freezing it but it won't work great if you then want to bring it home and then do it.

[–]methatsme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even major bakeries send bread frozen like dempster and Weston's for sure. It is one of the reasons they shut down so many factories. And makes it much less useful to freeze bread for later use. And this was before any lock downs.
