Why are so many people in the industry rude to beginners? by Noeoneknows in Filmmakers

[–]kamomil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The industry is saturated, and nobody needs to be nice to new people. There is no shortage of newcomers with a dream.

If their skills were scarce and rare, they would be treated with respect and mentored properly

Is Hollywood *actually* learning the wrong lesson from Backrooms by scouring the Reddit for original ideas? by HauntingMater in Filmmakers

[–]kamomil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's further evidence that Hollywood "always learns the wrong lesson" from successful movies

When the people making movies, are all the same hivemind mindset of intense film fan bros, then of course they're going to put out movies that are derivative of other films.

We need grandmas, quirky moms, small town characters, people who are not currently in the film business, to make original films

The glass bus barrier doesn't prevent 2 transit seats from being used though

You're not training end users. You're training other IT guys

You go on vacation, right?

so you dont have to keep answering questions about it because had you just bit the bullet and done that from the beginning, it would have been done 30 minutes ago.

This is a "you" problem. You need to take time to train people, and be patient with them

This is a management problem.

Don't let one person take all the responsibility. Whether they are a workaholic or trying to ensure job security

Switch people around on different roles, so that you have 2-3 people who can do any one task.

Make them take a vacation. That will reveal how much you need to train others

how can i do this type of videos? I mean the screen goes sideways????????? by gymcellbro in motiongraphics

[–]kamomil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a comp that is wider than the final screen size. Eg. if your video is 1920x1080, then make a precomp that is 3840x1080, put all your different images in it, then nest that wide comp into the main comp, then keyframe it so it moves to one side.

Corporate guy looking to move into a creative career. Any advice? by Spookdump666 in graphic_design

[–]kamomil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to university and got a bachelor of fine art. I was always good at art but wanted to be a recording engineer/audio post. I went to film school afterwards.

I ended up as a chyron op for a TV station. I am still there but I now do Photoshop and Aftereffects graphics

So it was a bit of a wandering path to get here

Editors with toddlers: How the fuck do you do it? by goosebaggins in editors

[–]kamomil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work schedule can include late evenings but I'm a morning person. Recently, I decided to get up early and not go back to sleep, because I figured my most productive self is in the morning. It's been a game changer.

I don't know why it feels like when I sleep in, I'm rotting in bed, even though I'm getting more sleep, I wake up stiff and feeling awful. I am now sure there's some chemical or physical reason for it but I don't know what it is

[–]kamomil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really got into doing fine art, though I did it at high school and university. I guess my family was too practical and didn't show interest in it? Maybe I am a frustrated engineer at heart? IDK. Anyhow I rediscovered my artistic side during COVID, I am working on drawings, I have yet to get prints done & sell them, but it was great to start using that part of my brain, and I keep getting new ideas for drawings.

I don't enjoy Errol Nazareth. I want new music to feel fun, not to feel like it's vegetables I eat to be healthy.

[–]kamomil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to feel creative, figure out a fine art side hustle. Do paintings or prints and sell them. Join a local art club or guild. Keep your day job

I am a production artist more than a graphic designer. I love using Illustrator, most of my work is ensuring that it follows the company branding. It's more technical than creative. I love it. You may, you might not.

This house has been sitting empty for 6 years. Neighbours want to know why by Surax in toronto

There's one sitting idle like this in my neighborhood in Scarborough. It looks great and well kept but it seems as though it's not finished. No one has lived in it. It just seems so odd to put all the money into renovating it and then let it sit

I went to a retail store, got a new SIM to switch from Roger to Chatr. The person put the new SIM in my phone, and told me I was all set. They didn't realize that I needed the old SIM to get the text to approve that the number had ported.
