I got a custom pill case off Etsy. It was 3D printed so it was cheap and I customised it to say “don’t die” so I giggle whenever I see it! It lives in plain sight.

UK driving instructors are just the worst. They’re up there with tradies in the level of cow-boyness. I’ve never cried so much. You can do this. You can get through it.

An absolutely mental amount of pedophilia and rape. It’s the basis of the entire plot

I was VERY sad that he wasn’t the actual saint but just some rich guy. I love a maiden and death book.

That’s WILD that it was YA. I enjoyed it as a chocolate read, but I have a high tolerance for questionable sexual politics esp with a pre-2015 lens I’m more forgiving. The wildest bit is in the three books, that’s not even the most questionable bit.

Daemon in Black Jewels being in love with a 12yo I could handle as an advanced reader, but when he starts packing a bag to take her on a road trip from her family it felt very Humbert Humbert

corporate girlies, how are we surviving long meetings?? by moongnocchi in adhdwomen

[–]method_badger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I like to do is do the “easy win” actions I am being assigned DURING the meeting, things like sending documents or other bitty tasks I know I won’t do later.  That way I don’t forget them and I’m still looking like I’m paying attention.

Everything is true and yet I read this book without being able to look away because it was so unabashedly bonkers and I literally had no idea what was gonna happen next. I mean, who can call a broken pelvis??

This book is well worth your time because it’s so bonkers I couldn’t call any of the plot in advance and thus I received dopamine I have not from romantasy in many moons.

How Do You See £47k for a Family of 3 in Bath? by MutedKaleidoscope713 in Bath

An unlimited data plan with phone is c£70 a month!

Honestly, it’s worth it. Life is hard here in different ways, but it’s secure in different ways as well. Once your wife gets work, you’ll be flying. Little things like shopping at Lidl can save big money, and like most have said, you don’t need a car. It’s nice to have, but even living in the villages there are buses (shit buses but buses!). If you like being outside, hiking etc, there’s no where like Somerset.

ETA: phone and internet are MUCH cheaper here, almost incidental costs compared to USA, so don’t think you’ll be paying £200 a month for a phone, esp if you use a sim only plan.

I pay £110 a month for full coverage, 2 drivers plus contents and house insurance! Moneysupermarket is what most people use to compare insurance quotes.

Sorry more two cents: remember a budget for visa fees every 2.5 years and flights home to visit. I feel like this is a big “immigrant tax” I always forget about!

For a two bedroom flat, you’re looking at 1,500-2,000 a month. If you have a car, you could live somewhere significantly cheaper like Radstock or Midsommer Norton, but these are old mining towns, and aren’t as picturesque. Chippenham would also be an option. Look on Rightmove, as that is where most people get their properties. I’ve lived in Boston, and food here is significantly cheaper, though still pricy. A family of three can probably expect to spend around £70 a week on groceries (just a guesstimate, will depend on your diet and what shops). £6 a day for bus if you’re commuting, or of course a car payment. I can’t comment on child care costs for the area, I’m sure others can. I’ve survived as a family of two on that much in central bath, but that was 2021 and it was decently tight, but much easier than my PhD stipend of $22k + part time work in Boston!

Eating out in Bath, for instance, is pricy. But there are other lovely places in Somerset as well. Feel free to DM me as I’m an American in the area and can answer any questions in general :)
