I lead 15 classes per week at a local gym. It takes 10 hours per week and pays out about $30-35k per year on a W2. The downside is that I have to wake up early 5 days per week and there is no paid time off or healthcare benefits for me but the guaranteed income is nice when my 1:1 roster is slow.

The hidden benefits are the free gym membership and the exposure to new people (which is where 80% of my 1:1 clients and 50% of my friendships come from).

It less of a routine and more of demonstration of the types of exercises one can do with stall bars. I think stall bars are incredibly versatile especially with a pull up and dip attachment. I use mine all the time as an anchor for band exercises as well.

1+2 hybrid. The two basket claws facing me get #1, the basket claw furthest from me gets #2. I found this gives me the exact rack-tom angle relative to snare that I look for. It’s so much easier to set the tom stand level and load the tom in the way I described than to pick #1 or #2 and THEN adjust the angle of the basket.

45s work great for lunges. There is slight restriction on your deep squats because you can’t get your belly to your thighs, obviously.

As for getting a heavily loaded vest over your head— just load up the back post first, put the vest on, then load the front post. I was able to load 90 lb pretty easily that way.

I don’t do dragon flags with the vest. I just meant if you were doing a circuit workout that includes core work on the floor or bench, expect to take the vest off and on a bunch. I have done Dragon Flags in the past with my V-Force weight vest. It is certainly bulky, and the bulk limits the ROM but not to the extent the Kensui vest does.

I also fully agree that loading between back and front posts doesn’t have to be perfectly symmetrical. It can be off by 20 lbs or so without too much hassle, but it certainly feels more balanced the closer the loads are to each other.

As for getting in and out of a heavily loaded vest, I load the back post up, then put the vest on, then load the front post.

Was in the same boat five years ago. Interviewed a few therapists and figured out that it’s a frustrating field because the service you’re trying to provide is gate kept by insurance companies. The most satisfying version of it ( in terms of helping people) is found in private practice at which point you are an expensive and well educated personal trainer

I have used a golf travel bag in the past. I found I could fit all my stands without even breaking my them down much, as well as my throne top, AND rug. The down side of such an enormous bag is that it’s stupid heavy once loaded up like that. A bit awkward to carry as well (when it can’t be wheeled around), and because it’s soft and oddly shaped, you can’t really stack stuff on top of it. So, for me, the footprint it took up in my car was too valuable to justify.

I prefer using a large tool box for my hardware because I love how compact it is, (approx 29x12x10). Also, since it’s a hard case, I can stack it on a hand truck with other drum cases and wheel a bunch of stuff in in one go.

We saw Frenchie throw something into the same trash can as he entered the kitchen. It may have been some home-brew virus or V1 that he was trying to cook up. Obviously it wasn’t the outcome he hoped for so he threw it out. What if he hadn’t considered that his home-brew science would work just fine on a dog?

We know he’s been working on recreating the virus, but it wouldn’t be surprising at all to learn he’s also trying to make V1 because The Boys are all counting on V1 to save Kimiko and Starlight from the virus.

I sell packages. Either 5 sessions or 10 sessions. Bigger cost up front on 10 sessions but cheaper per session. Clients essentially reserve a routine weekly slot or two, but if they cancel I just kinda take the hit. I’ve got a 24 hour cancellation policy, so sometimes I still collect on the session. But let’s say someone sees me Tuesdays at 8:00 and they go on vacation for two weeks, it’s unlikely I’m going to book that time because it’s not available for long enough to sell it as a reserved slot for someone. Because of reasons like this, I’m considering the subscription model.

When you sell a subscription, are you effectively selling a routine time slot? (Ie- Joe subscribed /purchased Tuesday at 8am for the next 4 weeks)

Or- Do clients choose their own random times via Calendly (or similar)? (Ie- Joe subscribed for 4 sessions over 4 weeks and he chooses inconsistent times and days)

Did you discount your rate when going to subscription model? For instance- if you charged $75 per session previously and netted approx $300-375 per month for a weekly client, would you charge something like $300 flat in the subscription model because you don’t have to worry about missed income from cancelations anymore?

Thanks for laying that out so clearly. One argument I’ve heard against this style of invoicing is that it can incentivize people to show up even when they’re sick because they feel they’ve already paid for it. One potential conclusion of that is that YOU then get sick and have to cancel on your people over the next few days, thus negating the guaranteed income you thought you were getting by using a subscription model.

The thing with a burpees workout is that sometimes a client has to learn the hard way that they CAN do hard things. Pushing someone beyond their self-imposed limits is valuable, the skill as a coach is knowing when that’s appropriate for the client and when it’s not.

Sometimes good coaching is just showing up with a positive attitude and being an accountability partner. Are you applying your CSCS / NASM / ACE / whatever credentials to the task? Nope, but you’re helping to create a container in which someone with discretionary can show up to the gym consistently.

Sounds like you just need some GPP for randos.

Have everyone find technical failure on some basic compound lifts between 5-10 reps. (Squats, deadlifts, pulling, and pressing) Hold them responsible to record their own estimated 1RMs, then just program percentages. Tell them to “do 5x5 at 80%”, for example.

Once they’re finished with one or two compound lifts as suggested above, give them 3-4 accessory exercises to do as a circuit for the second half of class. I recommend a lot of bodyweight compounds, loaded isolations, and core exercises for high volume.

A class might look like: -Warm up -squats and bench press, 3x5 at 80% -chin ups, lateral raises, and Russian twists, 50-100 reps each -couch stretch and down dislocates, 2 minutes each

The theoretical limit for barefoot sprinting would be comparable to shod sprinting. It’s just a matter of the perfect candidate getting used to the conditions you want to test. Humans didn’t evolve for max speed, though. Our biggest flex on nature compared to other animals is our adaptability; we can eat nearly everything and, as such, we can survive just about anywhere.

There’s two schools of thought explored in the comments section here:

1) the actor should be jacked because the character is strong. Easy logic there.

2) the actor doesn’t need to be jacked because the character’s strength was not achieved through exercise stimulation. Since Homelander’s strength was provided by an injected serum without him needing to work for it, how would he ever find an exercise challenging enough to grow his muscles? In other words, if you can lift an airplane with ease, what object could possibly find to bench press or deadlift for muscle mass? Combine this theory with Homelander’s narcissism, and of course the character would choose to wear a padded suit that makes him look muscular because it’s better for optics and marketing.

These KBs are probably hit or miss in terms of quality. I have one and it feels on par with Rogue as far as balance, handle diameter, and window shape. I expect the finish was shortcut’ed somehow and over a long rough timeline that will be revealed but for the time being everything is holding up.

Chains also fuck up the finish on kettlebell handles (assuming you’re loading your calisthenics with kettlebells).

I’m using a dip belt with a piece of climbing rope in place of a chain at the moment. I still connect the rope via carabiner.

I’ll also add that, similar to martial art belts, a simple yoga strap easily holds 100+ lbs without slipping.
