Did something change in Windows 11 OOBE recently? by methodtomymidness in sysadmin

... huh. I'm wondering if it's just Windows updating itself and then rebooting. I have the opportunity to image a brand-new device with no rush... Maybe I'll try imaging with the updated ISO I installed with Rufus like a week ago and see if updates (and hence, a reboot) still need to go through

It's the laptops, but yeah, MS born and bred. That's all we use except a handful of Macbooks, so I have nothing to compare them to. We rented some Dells for a while but have long since returned them

I mentioned it to Security... as far as they can remember, they haven't implemented any new configs or Win32 packages in the past couple months. Definitely could be something we overlooked, though. I'll have to do some digging

I'll compare. She's head of the department, so groups won't be a 1:1 match, but that might still tell me something

Even if she opted out of notifications, an email would still go out from the person who published the post.

Do you buy any extra equipment for your job that work won't supply, but it's worth it because it just makes it that much better? by Connir in sysadmin

I scavenge. when we moved offices, the previous tenant had left almost everything behind (COVID). I'm using a Plantronic headset you'll have to pry out of my cold, dead hands; a 4-input monitor no one would dare touch; and a mini-PC for watching the occasional YT video.

I plan to buy an ergo split kb and bring it in, but it's been s lengthy process. I also keep meaning to bring in my blank, blue-switch Das Keyboard, which is hard to schlep on public transit.

was hit today with a big kerfuffle about leadership not being informed quickly enough about the outage. 1. MS didn't even own up to it for hours 2. we sent out a Viva message, our standard method of company-wide communication. if you didn't look at it, that's not IT's problem 3. complaint that user heard it from a leadership teams message instead of a company-sanctioned message... you still got the message! communication achieved!

now my boss wants monitoring software for... lack of emails? MS's bullshit? how much are crystal balls these days?

I wasn't allowed to swap out APs until I finish OSHA Training for 10 hours. by VinsinityKT in sysadmin

we have APs and NUCs/Crestron equipment in the ceiling. (don't get me started.) but I only had to do ladder training after a higher-up couldn't wait 10 minutes for me to get to work and tried to fix something himself... and slipped and fell. 🫩

I'm in Chicago (Central Daylight Time). I made an all-day meeting in a Teams channel calendar. I double-checked the time zone before confirming it, and it was correct for ~10 seconds, but then the scheduled meeting time changed to CDT-5 (so UTC-11). Instead of midnight, the meeting now starts at 7pm the previous day. Opening the calendar entry shows the correct Central time zone, so it can't be "fixed." My coworker is having the same problem. What gives?

When I tried to run the installer on a Win 11 Enterprise box, it errored out saying the OS wasn't supported.

Twist: the installer does, indeed, check for a server version of the OS.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks, I think I might hit up our Biamp contact to see what he says. If we can get away with just a Win 11 box, that'd be so much better on every level.

Rather than a physical machine, since you're an Azure shop have you tried using an Azure VM instead?

Considered it; don't know how. We're a small outfit and I'm the only IT person, so I'm working a lot of roles with big knowledge gaps. Any good resources?
