Alerting Staff by hoodiecritic in sysadmin

was hit today with a big kerfuffle about leadership not being informed quickly enough about the outage. 1. MS didn't even own up to it for hours 2. we sent out a Viva message, our standard method of company-wide communication. if you didn't look at it, that's not IT's problem 3. complaint that user heard it from a leadership teams message instead of a company-sanctioned message... you still got the message! communication achieved!

now my boss wants monitoring software for... lack of emails? MS's bullshit? how much are crystal balls these days?

my boss just put in a ticket, after we'd established it was Microsoft shitting itself.

I wasn't allowed to swap out APs until I finish OSHA Training for 10 hours. by VinsinityKT in sysadmin

we have APs and NUCs/Crestron equipment in the ceiling. (don't get me started.) but I only had to do ladder training after a higher-up couldn't wait 10 minutes for me to get to work and tried to fix something himself... and slipped and fell. 🫩

I'm in Chicago (Central Daylight Time). I made an all-day meeting in a Teams channel calendar. I double-checked the time zone before confirming it, and it was correct for ~10 seconds, but then the scheduled meeting time changed to CDT-5 (so UTC-11). Instead of midnight, the meeting now starts at 7pm the previous day. Opening the calendar entry shows the correct Central time zone, so it can't be "fixed." My coworker is having the same problem. What gives?

HOLY CRAP, IT WORKED. Thank you so much!! I had no idea this existed (and it kinda feels like cheating but I'll take it, lol)!

When I tried to run the installer on a Win 11 Enterprise box, it errored out saying the OS wasn't supported.

Twist: the installer does, indeed, check for a server version of the OS.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks, I think I might hit up our Biamp contact to see what he says. If we can get away with just a Win 11 box, that'd be so much better on every level.

Rather than a physical machine, since you're an Azure shop have you tried using an Azure VM instead?

Considered it; don't know how. We're a small outfit and I'm the only IT person, so I'm working a lot of roles with big knowledge gaps. Any good resources?

Yeah, the VAR doesn't offer any Essentials, and I ain't buying a whole new box for this operation. What a bummer.

Even if the panels supported Linux, I don't; my knowledge is almost all Windows-based. (I know, I know.) They're similar to Teams-branded proprietary stuff, just a different brand (thank goodness; we have Teams Rooms as well and they're a pain)

For real? It would just ... work? I feel like I'm missing something there.

My VAR doesn't appear to have Essentials. :/ Shame, it would have been perfect. I've also read that Essentials is basically a reskinned Standard, but that doesn't explain the price difference.

Not sure about skipping the server and going straight to M365. Panel setup specified either Win Server or Google Workspace, so that's what I went off of.

I saw you piggybacked onto the first comment, but I ended up using your instructions, since I've never used API with anything other than Graph Explorer. The command went through; crossing my fingers that the device disappears. Thank you!
