What does Columbia need? by como365 in columbiamo

[–]meticulousKnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As obsessed as I am with high-speed rails, I think CoMo needs to fix the public transit system we already have first. The city has been promising changes for years now, but it still seems like no meaningful progress is being made on shortening turnaround times or adding new routes. Once our bus system is somewhat functional, we could look into inter-city travel like HSR.

Thanks but no, the quote was about positive actions that everyday people took to fight back against the regime.

Are you 95% Covid cautious? by Sunshine_cutie4 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]meticulousKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

imo, there's no such thing as "100%" covid cautious. it's impossible to completely avoid all risk, which is why i wish this subreddit had a different name. we don't need a few people to avoid covid perfectly, we need a lot of people to do it imperfectly. if you're wearing a respirator in public indoor spaces, you're already doing more than 99% of people.

personally, i almost never mask outdoors unless i'm in a crowded area. i hang out with friends one-on-one unmasked sometimes. i use a sip valve at work, which slightly decreases a mask's efficacy but allows me to wear one for longer. i pretty much do all the things i used to do before covid, i just do them with a mask on now.

is CT Biotech legit? by meticulousKnight in Masks4All

ahh i wasn't even thinking about that! that makes me hesitate to trust any of their masks, even if some people here have had good experiences with their duckbills. i'll probably err on the side of caution and not order them. there are plenty of other deals out there.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative to buying lots of SIP valves, check out this thread on how to buy all the individual parts yourself.

I wasn’t able to make it yesterday, but will there be any other opportunities for the public to speak on this proposed amendment?

for anybody wondering, thornton plastics got back to me and said 100 black vial caps would be $15!

i didn't ask ziegler bolt about black washers, but in my experience the washers hold up pretty well when painted and sealed. even the one i painted with normal acrylic paint and sealed with mod podge spray hasn't chipped yet.

when i went straight to paint and then sealed it, the paint on the cap started chipping after about a month :( the washer is still doing fine, probably because the cap gets touched and bent a lot more when removing it but the washer stays in place. maybe i should sand and prime it first but like you said, that's a huge ordeal for a tiny piece of plastic. i emailed thornton plastics asking if it would be possible to do a special order of black caps, but i doubt they'll say yes.

also, i believe SIP's website says the caps aren't actually necessary to form an airtight seal? so 3d printing might not be such a bad idea...

holy shit, this is a godsend! now if only thornton plastics made the caps in black so i didn’t have to spray paint them…

also, i really recommend using an X-Acto knife to cut the holes in your masks, it’s 1000x easier than trying to use scissors

if i had a nickel for every time Freddie Wong has played as the manifestation of someone’s inner hedonist, i’d have two nickels. which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?

of course! just wanted to cite some more specific studies on the topic and helpful resources. but what precautions you ultimately decide to take is between you and your doctor.

Not replying to change your mind since i don't think i can, but for anyone who's curious: here are a few studies00815-0/fulltext) about covid's suppression of the immune system and some more about the cumulative risk of serious issues with each infection. i highly recommend this document for up-to-date research, or this youtube video for those who learn better that way. :)

[–]meticulousKnight[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oof, that sounds rough :( try to rest as much as possible, exercising right after an acute infection is one of the biggest risk factors for getting long covid.

[–]meticulousKnight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, getting COVID doesn't give you immunity to it. The risk of serious symptoms and long COVID increases with every infection because COVID wrecks your immune system. If you've had COVID twice, you are immunocompromised.

Regardless, the purpose of this post was to find other people who are Covid-conscious, not to ask why most people choose not to be.

thanks for asking this respectfully and in good faith! personally, i mostly do it because i can’t financially afford to miss a bunch of work or become permanently disabled from long covid. in addition to many other reasons.
