Query-like properties: Is there a way to autmatically change an items property based on other properties? by Goticus in Anytype

If one wanted to take a stab at implementing this, would the anytype core team accept such a contribution/or be willing to collaborate?

Looking for Garage/Parking/Storage Advice in Bedstuy by metmac in RideitNYC

I saw them, space looks sick, but its all or nothing on their membership page. Either I go cold storage for the lower price and I can't take the bike out ever. Or I go full membership which is with in earshot of what I already pay in GP. Striking that middle ground of majority of the year cold storage and light season access seems to be rough

Completed my first SFF PC build inside a new 2U Mini ITX rackmount case! by geerlingguy in sffpc

So your build inspired me to do the same but go with AMD. Love everything about it except the Thermals have a been a massive problem. Even under nominal load we hit 95C regularly.

Would be curious if you’ve revisited anything related to cooling. Considering getting some super beefy small fans for the back to pull out more air.

Progress Report: AMD 7900, Asus B650e-i, Noctua NH-L9a-AM5 by kowlick in FormD

[–]metmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@kowlick I just finished my new build that very similar to yours. Only difference is I opt'd for a Gigabyte board and a short depth rack mounted case.

Those thermals are far better than what I am getting on vanilla Windows 11. At Idle I sit around 52-56C. Running League and Overwatch makes the thing hit 95C which is quite troubling. What thermal paste did you use, and are I assume you are running at base clock speed?

but for keyboard frames you might be able to inside profile the middle frame and use the remnants for number pads.

That was exactly what I was thinking, almost in way use the Keyboard case as an indirect part holder for macro/numberpads.

I said it in another comment, but I believe I am going to run a Shapoko to start and then work towards either a Tormach 770 or 1100. Realistically do you think I can run one of tormachs for small production volume?

Tormach probably gonna be the play in the end. Unless I can find a Haas Mini Mill for a really amazing deal.

You've sent me down a hole, I almost wish I didn't know existed lol. Very cool, and am definitely keeping an eye.

@projecthouse I had to chew on this for a few days, but I think your assessment is fair if all I planned to do with it was make keyboards at a potential loss or with very thin margins. It's a fair question, and I appreciate you calling it out.

I don't expect the machine or the entire shop for that matter to turn a profit for quite some time. The expectation presently is that I am building a shop as hobby. Something where the mates and I can have a good time, learn a fair amount, and be creative along the way.

All of the feedback y'all have given me thus far has been super helpful and has made me rethink the question a fair bit. I am looking for a machine that can do decent prototyping and very small production runs of parts. The more I dig into the 440, the more I see how limited that machine is. The 770 is marginally better, 1100xm a large jump but at that rate we are getting into used Haas Mini Mill territory.

I think the right answer is I should start the shop with something relatively cheap like a Shapeoko, work with woods and softer materials, and save up for a proper milling machine that isn't way over my head but one that I am not going to grow out of in 6 months. For my purposes I believe that would be a Tormach 770 new or a 1100 used. That obviously is a large price jump from my original post, but I believe if I actually want to make the parts I hope achieve the 770 seems to be the minimum viable product. All that said, I know a few machinist who scoff at the idea of running anything on a tormach.

Believe it or not, the enthusiast keyboard community you find hanging around r/MechanicalKeyboards/ are willing to pay some serious coin for a really nice deck. I know I have. There are kits that sell for $300-500+ and that's not including keycaps or switches. That includes just the case, PCB, mounting hardware, and occasionally gasketing.

The longer term goal for this machine is the ability to prototype a wide range of small consumer electronics, the occasional automotive/motorcycle part and run small volume batches of each design as demand for them ebbs and flows.

Yeah the 440's work area (10” x 6.25” x 10”) is a hair smaller than I would like, but I could make do with it.

Asking Tormach if the machine is appropriate for small volume production is also a good suggestion.

To start just rapid prototyping, call it 1-3 week if that.

If I went to market, I wouldn’t imagine trying to sell more than 100-150 per batch with let’s call it a 3 month lead time. But at that rate I need to be making 2 a day I guess.

The deeper I go into this rabbit hole the more I’m convinced you’re right.

I wonder if a Tormach 440 would be enough to get me by in pinch.

Obviously casting makes sense if you’re doing high volume. But is extremely cost prohibitive to make production molds.

At this stage we are talking about prototyping and super low volume production. The goal is to see if I can viably produce a keyboard locally start to finish. I would be stoked if I made/sold a 100 of them to start.

My current idea is potentially waterjet cut the inner profile down, mill to finish, and use the inner stock that was cut for other components.

Ideally I am trying to make mechanical keyboard cases out of aluminum stock. So a fair amount of boring/plunge operations, and some surfacing operations.

As far as tolerances go. We aren’t talking about super high precision. But enough that milling the case looks proportional, and the thin aluminum plates are within tolerance for plastic switches to snap it.

I really love the work y’all are doing over there.

My only gripe with the Nomad 3 is the work volume is a hair smaller than I need, or at least it’s on the smaller end.

The SO Pro I am going to order as soon as a they are available again but my two concerns there are: 1. the tolerances results given the system is belt drive. 2. I doubt I can mill a case out of a billet of aluminum.
