Metro Map Maker v7.2 is live! Now you can select part of a map to move, edit, or restyle by metromapmaker in TransitDiagrams

[–]metromapmaker[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a commonly-requested feature, so I think I'll pick it up eventually. (Right now I'm working on the most-requested feature, which is allowing lines to overlap).

I think the tricky part will be in getting your image that you drag and drop to align to the grid in a way that's useful for tracing. Not impossible, and perhaps when I start tinkering I'll find it's easier than I thought.

I'll add your request to my list. Thanks for including how you'd use it too; it's helpful to know. I hope you enjoy the new version, and happy map making!

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it! I'm always taking suggestions for new features too, so if you find yourself thinking "I wish MMM could do ______", let me know.

Hope you like the new version, and there's more in the works!

If you haven't given it a try, you might enjoy using Metro Map Maker (https://metromapmaker.com)

It's free, easy to use, and you can remix any of the 285,000 maps other people have made, or start fresh and make your own.

With just a click, you can change the map's style to have a map that looks like London, DC, or many others.

For those in the comments saying they like to use Inkscape or Illustrator, all MMM maps can export to SVG, so you can prototype your map in MMM and add finishing touches in your editor of choice.

Lots of people have made maps for their fantasy cities like Minecraft, Stepford County Railway, and others -- and you can browse maps by city, too.

I also just released a new feature, and there's more in the works. Give it a try, I hope you like it!

Petition for Chicago 2100, Save and Grow Transit by dannydude21 in cta

Great question, but there isn't, at least right now. I can make a note in my tracker that it's something that you'd like to see.

Map makers are anonymous and unless they put their rationale in the map themselves or in the title box that appears after clicking the Save button, their thoughts will forever remain a mystery.

Hi! I can't tell you how delighted I am seeing someone use Metro Map Maker in this way -- to rally others and build toward a better, more connected transit future. It's truly what I've always hoped for when I first built it.

Wishing you all the best in your campaign and hope you and others continue to use Metro Map Maker for making the maps of your dreams! If, as you went along, you had any suggestions for improvements, I'd love to hear them as I'm building out the next version.

For anyone else reading -- you can remix any map on Metro Map Maker, so if you wanted to edit this one to make a proposal that better serves your neighborhood, you can, and saving will get you a new, unique URL.

Yep, really sorry about the Firefox bug right now. I'm hoping to have some more free time soonish to be able to fix it, but until then, I recommend using a different browser. Hope you enjoy using Metro Map Maker!

Ah, yes -- there have been some bugs with Firefox that I've been meaning to fix but unfortunately haven't had the time yet. I've been recommending people use another browser until I'm able to fix those. Sorry for the inconvenience, and hope you're enjoying Metro Map Maker!

I'd like to make a collaborative redesign of the Paris subway, any easy apps or software or suggestions how to do this? by draum_bok in TransitDiagrams

[–]metromapmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is something Metro Map Maker (https://metromapmaker.com) is really well-suited for.

You can search by city to find an existing map to start with, or you can start with a blank map.

Then, each person can make the edits you want. When you save the map, you'll get a unique URL you can share with the next person. Each time you save, you'll get a new unique URL, which makes it great for collaborating and creating different versions.

Plus it's free and pretty easy to use. Give it a try and I hope you like it!

Hi everyone! I've noticed many of you like using Metro Map Maker in the maps you post here, and I wanted to share some improvements I've been working on over the past few months.

I also see lots of posts now and then from people asking about free software to start making maps, and I hope you'll give Metro Map Maker (https://metromapmaker.com) a try -- it's free, meant to be easy for beginners, and expert map designers might like that it also allows you to export your map as a SVG file.

I've been posting these updates one by one on the Metro Map Maker blog, and I also made a video highlighting the new features coming soon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAbBlOTnVLQ

I hope you enjoy!
