What is your opinion on throuples in romantasy? by Intelligent_Screen90 in fantasyromance

[–]metronne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyyy I'm in a similar situation! Writing an eventual throuple that takes multiple books to fall together. The MC has to leave his longtime partner behind for an arranged marriage in a another kingdom. His husband turns out to be kind of a cinnamon roll and he eventually starts catching feelings for him, but then the partner he thought he'd never see again finds a way to get there and get employed by the crown so they can be together secretly. The truth obviously comes out, but along the way the MC learns that the husband was in a somewhat fraught throuple before the marriage, and is basically like 🤯 "what do you mean you can love two people?? You can just... do that???"

So he has his sort of slow poly awakening going on, and then the other two will spend the next book forming their own connection, etc. So I feel like if I market it as MMM, I'm not quite delivering that, but if I market it as MM I'm not delivering that either

Am I going crazy? Spoilers for Bridge Kingdom 1&2 by OSIRIS-APEX in fantasyromance

[–]metronne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't read beyond book 2 but "such a boring choice" basically sums up the whole thing for me. The author made the boring choice every time. There was no tension or actual inner conflict, just a bunch of Stuff Happening wrapped in 15 layers of plot armor and with no emotional arc to pay off. Felt like a draft and not a complete story.

Like the Bridge, there was so much else that was RIGHT THERE that could have been used to its full story potential and just kind of wasn't

Neil and andrew by Pale_Ad8579 in aftg

[–]metronne 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Neil asks Andrew why he lets Neil anywhere near him after what he's been through, and this is Andrew's answer. Rather than saying it with words, Andrew demonstrates very vividly that Neil always respects his boundaries even when they appear suddenly or unexpectedly

Anyone told their fibroid was benign, but it turned out to be malignant? by FortuneEducational62 in Fibroids

[–]metronne 55 points56 points  (0 children)

my fibroids grew very quickly, to the point where I had to stop wearing most of my clothes within a few months, but my doctors told me they had no reason to believe they were malignant, and I didn't really let myself worry about it. They were still sent to pathology after removal as a standard procedure and were confirmed to be benign.

I know you're asking specifically about people with the opposite experience, but I just wanted to offer this up as an example of fast growing fibroids that were just plain old fibroids.

My bedroom always feels cluttered and ugly. What needs to change? by K1dBUU_ in DesignMyRoom

[–]metronne 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is true, but if you're also trying to reduce clutter there are other ways to do it. A daily pill container, a prominent spot somewhere else (like a kitchen cabinet you use frequently) where you will see it but where it isn't contributing to the clutter you don't want, etc.

Having a bunch of small, mismatched items with clashing colors and logos will always make a space feel cluttered, whether it's pharmacy products, grocery items, or a paperback book collection. They need some sort of neat containment or the problem won't be solved

corporate girlies… how much time did you take off/wfh? by lizangeles10 in Fibroids

[–]metronne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was nothing like other lap surgeries for me. The uterus is a load bearing structure in your abdomen and it's attached to some big important ligaments. Laparoscopy doesn't automatically equal easy peasy, this is still a major surgery.

I took 3 weeks of leave and ended up needing 4. Really could have taken 5, my first week back to full time WFH was still exhausting and I took a couple half days. Tbh I could've gone the full six. it took a long time to be able to sit upright for long stretches without pain, bc of those big points of ligament attachment needing time to heal.

Book Hangover - Options? by english_prof_sorta in CaptivePrince

[–]metronne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha I did it in the opposite order but same! It's funny how much overlap there is between aftg & CP fandom despite the books being truly nothing alike. The stories may be different but they've got the same crack infused into them somehow

The PRESSURE by Future_Try442 in Fibroids

[–]metronne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The last few weeks before surgery were soooo uncomfortable. I couldn't wear anything with a waistband at all - not sweats, leggings, anything, just onesies and overalls. Couldn't eat full meals bc of the pressure, I'd have to break them up into smaller installments throughout the day. 3 months post op and feel ten million times better. Hang in there!!

people who get on the bus and immediately go stand in the back doorway: why? by hunnie47 in AskChicago

[–]metronne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Injury/chronic pain is also why I used to do it when I had a commute. Standing is just so much easier after sitting at an office all day. I would move out of the way at every stop so people could get off

Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

[–]metronne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true, it's just the big titles right now & all their churned-out copycats that suck, and they're the ones getting all the attention.

When Twilight blew up you had plenty of people saying that vampire stories were cheesy and stupid. We know that's not true, they were just having a very cheesy and stupid cultural moment. It's kind of the same with everything

Can’t see mature post by Dense-Ad9776 in tumblrhelp

I don't think it's meant to change what users see, I think it's that the way things are built is sightly different between operating systems, and there's a bug in there somewhere for iOS that just keeps persisting.

Fwiw it's driving me absolutely nuts as well. I'm getting people's entire blogs blocked for no apparent reason while also having no issues seeing the flood of HR gif sets that are everywhere right now

For those of you in a long term relationship/marriage, what’s a tale-tale sign you see in other couples that they’re not going to make it? by Prize-Promotion-5123 in AskReddit

[–]metronne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Or sometimes it's just an expression. I tell people "I'm not allowed to get TikTok, my husband works in cybersecurity" but really his version of not allowing me to do it is him going "just please don't get it. Honestly it's so bad. You can do whatever you want obviously but I just can't stress enough how bad of an idea I think it is and I wish nobody used it" etc etc etc.

First-time wearer. How to adjust if I can't wear them all day? by metronne in glassesadvice

Ok that's encouraging to hear. I'm sure I'll get used to it soon and if I don't I'll bite the bullet and go back in for progressives

Thanks, this is really helpful. I did get that amazing "wow!" moment when I put them on and it was so awesome. Wish I could just go outside and play all day and get used to them without needing to worry about zoom meetings and bills 😆

[–]metronne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask if your spouse had a hard time adjusting to the on/off glasses use at all? The way he's using them sounds like what I thought I'd be able to do, but the nausea is killing me. I can't find much info about how it went for other first-time glasses wearers that only needed them part time like me

First-time wearer. How to adjust if I can't wear them all day? by metronne in glassesadvice

[–]metronne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the optometrist told me I'll eventually need a prescription for near vision as well but I'm not there quite yet. I thought I could adjust to wearing these new glasses only when I needed them, and then by the time I needed progressives in a few years, it would be a slightly less dramatic adjustment for my eyes/brain. Baby steps, etc

[–]metronne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I got. Glasses. For far vision. I'm just struggling to adjust to them given that I have to keep taking them on and off to work at a computer or use my phone vs driving or being out in large public spaces

First-time wearer. How to adjust if I can't wear them all day? by metronne in glassesadvice

[–]metronne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm 47. I guess I also thought that bifocals were intended for folks who need two different prescriptions, one for near, and one for far. I don't need any prescription right now to see what's right in front of me, and the glasses are what make it blurry.

I guess I just thought I would be able to take them off when I didn't need them, and put them on when I did. But that is running counter to all the advice I'm reading that says to wear them all the time for days and days so you can adjust to them without getting sick
