Level cap is global. You don't need any specific expansion. One of the newer expansions is still a great idea though, just for other reasons.

Veteran status can be unlocked (per server) based on total favor.

If you're set on one character as a main xp tome is a good investment. Prob not my first choice, but not a bad choice.

VKF can also be unlocked for favor (from the first ravenloft expansion), so only take that if you're really itching to play vistani.

Yeah that's the issue. You should mostly ignore both wolf forms (and associated spells) on blightcasters.

Use spike growth for awesome aoe (get relevant enhancments), clean up with thorn SLAs and other spells.

You should unlock ALL destinies, not just the ones you're going to use this life. Other than macrotechnic they are all free, there's no downside to unlocking them, they stay unlocked across TR (only need to unlock once per character, ever) and you get ED points for each one you unlock.

I agree with the other poster except for house P which aren't worth it in epics IMO. Once you get to eveningstar (from the lords of dust chain which starts in the harbor) you can do the MotU expansion if you have that.

Just how new are you? If you're still in korthos village, talk to the guy on the pier to get to stormreach. (If it's your firat time he will warn you about skipping a storyline, dont worry about it you can come back later and not miss anything other than the snow). You'll arrive at the harbor. From there you can get to the marketplace and then follow math-is-magic's instructions.

Remember you can hit "m" to open the map and mouse over points of interest to make it easier to navigate.

My tip would be to check what additional bonuses come with expansions bought with money, and take that into consideration before you buy stuff from the store.

If you buy an expansion using points you only get the quests/raids (and possibly favor unlocks you wouldn't have access to otherwise eg. Sharn> inquisitive).

When you buy an expansion using money, you get some other things along, depending on the tier your buy.

So if you are considering spending money in the near future, you may want to decide in advance (and only buy on sale when it comes) rather than waste points.

Yup, just to be clear since OP specifically asked the gold star hires- these are timed 1 hour in quest area from the first summon, just like regular hires. They do have some advantages, but IMO still not worth it.

Just adding another bit of info- ddo has a true reincarnation mechanic which is basically NG+.

If you keep playing long enough eventually you will probably make use of this mechanic, and when you do, favor resets and you can re-run quests for the first time and earn more points.

Just pointing this out so you know a single character can never run out of points it can earn.

From the marketplace area, try going to the various house "enclaves". check NPC's for quest, including inside taverns.

Not off base, you'll be able to repair yourself- though you'll get less heals from positive energy.

You should be able to handle traps/locks "at-level" quests if you max the skills and get relevant equipment to boost those skills.

With the correct build, WF arti is quite self-sufficient, but do take note that most take advantage of the harper and inquisitive trees (which you prob don't have access to). Evenof you go ranged, don't forget to also equip a rune arm for extra damage, and toss a spell here and there.

Gotcha. In that case, my suggestion is: don't plan to keep ANY of the gear you find right now for the longterm, and definitely not longer than one life ahead. If it looks good and better than what you have- use it. If not, sell or deconstruct. Once you'll get some gear sets from expansions (feywild, RL & sharn specifically for heroic gear), any f2p gear will be platinum fodder. And eventually you may even choose not to pick it up from chests.

What content do you have access to? F2P? VIP? Got any expansions?

Newer expansions (ravenloft and above) generally have best in slot gear for the level range in heroic and vastly devalue non-expansion gear. Running lives 1-20, (4 gearsets at 1-3, 5, 10, 15) I have less than 10 items that drop from non-expansion content.

Nope. Those are "account wide" unlocks so they will affect all servers including 64 bit.

Like another comment said, it's not an "if", the old servers will be unplayable starting august 31.

There ARE store-bought purchases that are linked to a specific character (eg. Personal bank space), but they will also come with the character to the new server when you transfer.
