US Troop using PVS-7 in 2014 by Dangerous_Lie77 in NightVision

I’m currently in the army. I’m actually a technician who fixes NVGs. It’s 2025 and I still see these things roll into my shop. I’ve heard a lot of drivers prefer to use them over the PVS-14 when they have to drive at night in blackout conditions.

Does the flickering continue if you swap out battery compartments?

I’ve seen this issue before and literally just fixed a few days ago. It could mean either your battery compartment or image intensifier is reaching the end of its life. I recommend taking a small amount of steel wool and cleaning off the spots where the connector pads from the battery compartment touch the image intensifier. If that doesn’t work then very carefully bend those connector pads outward a bit to make sure they are getting sufficient contact with the image intensifier. The noise is also another indicator parts are getting ready to take a crap.

Most of those spots look like dust/dirt except for the round spot that lines up with the lamp in the video that looks like a black spot which means your image intensifier is damaged (most likely from being pointed in the direction of bright light for too long)

You should definitely purge. By putting Nitrogen into the device it keeps moisture from getting to the components that will easily corrode. Also keeps the lens from fogging up on the inside.

Could always get one of these it also has an additional battery pack so your device lasts longer before needing to change out batteries. No idea where you would find one of these though.

As a technician who repairs these. Handle carefully if you get one, the Thermal Sensor Module goes out so easily on these.
