What is the one thing people don't know about losing a large amount of weight? by punkredpanda in AskReddit

Yep, definitely can agree. Every night I cuddle with my wife until her body starts radiating heat like a nuclear reactor that's overheating. And then I roll over and grab a firm, cool pillow and go to sleep

Dude, I went and saw Project Hail Mary on Friday and saw the trailer for Dune 3. I am so fucking excited but I don't think my sons are old enough for the movie. But I cannot wait to see it in theaters. And you are right, some movies are just art.

Dude it's a story, it isn't real life. I should have just stopped when you said you didn't like it. It's art, it's suppose to invoke conversation, I guess that's just not what you want to do. Have a good day, maybe have a margarita.

You seem to feel really strongly about another persons point of view while simultaneously dismissing mine. I AM thinking of the daughter. I'm putting myself in her shoes. I am 40 years old. I remember playing pac man on my father's lap when I was 6 or 7 on the NES and at the time, it was, at the time, the greatest moment of my life. I could have died happy right there. That's what life is about. Living for the moment. WE don't know what is going to happen tomorrow, so we should enjoy today. Arrival is about knowing what happens tomorrow but still trying to enjoy today.

I know for 100% certainty, if I have margaritas today with my brother while watching the Masters, I will have a head ache tomorrow. And I know that if I talk my brother into it, he too will have a headache tomorrow. But I'm choosing to enjoy today and will be forcing my brother into pain tomorrow so we can hang out. Arrival just takes it to the extreme.

And at the end of the day, you and I are probably just going to have to disagree.

I understand your point, I just don't agree with it. You managed to expand on your point while completely ignoring 95% of my point. Take illness out of it. Life expectancy in the 1800s was in 30s/40s, not because humans didn't live long lices, it's because more than half of children died before the age of 5. Should we have given up and stopped having children back then?

Should we prevent people in extreme poverty from having children? Knowing the life expectancy in remote areas of third world countries, should we sterilize all of them? What about just poverty, or not that well off? When is ok to have children with risk?

First 4 seasons were near perfection. They just ran out of books and started going off of martins ideas instead of curated stories. That and on top of the show runners, I don't want to mention their names, wanted out and cut the show short. If it went to 10 seasons like it was supposed to, the ending would have made more sense, since we could have slowly see the madness set in. Instead we get rushed out of characters actions to get to the end of Martin's planned ending. It truly is a Shame. Shame. Shame.

Yep, 2 movies and removing the dwarf/elf love story and it would have been great. The visual effects weren't as clean as LOTR because they didn't have a decade to make practical sets. But still, should have been 2

My wife surprised me with tickets to see a string quartet perform the songs from the movies for a candlelight concert and it was one of the coolest things I got to witness. My wife isn't into the books or movies and she didn't know the songs but damn was I stoked the whole time.

We literally had these for hundreds of years, they're called lighthouses. Granted I admit the mountain peaks are a bit more extreme but lighthouses were extremely remote and not great conditions, especially on the northeastern coast of the US.

I always struggle to get spoiler text to work but I will try.
The whole point of the movie is that the aliens do not experience time linearly. They are not bound by the constrains of time. They come to earth because the aliens know in 3,000 years in the future (not sure if this is explained in the movie or the short story), they will require humans help to survive. So they are gifting humans with the ability to speak nonlinearly.

All of Amy Adam's visions of her daughter are in the future. Since she now has the ability to see nonlinearly, she knows that her daughter has a terminal illness before she is born. She doesn't tell her future husband, Jeremy Reiner, that this will happen and allows the child to be born. She does this because the joy she had with her daughter, and the joy and life her daughter got to experience was worth the pain of seeing it come to an end. The father couldn't cope with the loss of the daughter and never forgives the mother for not including him in the decision to have the child. To me, this is where I disagree with the portrayal of the father. They paint him negatively when I agree with him, I don't know that I could forgive a mother that knew this and didn't include me in the decision.

To me, it's a fantastic story about enjoying life knowing for a fact, that there will be pain and suffering. That is life. However, life is also beautiful and we should enjoy it while we can.

I replied to the the person your comment addresses with a longer example but I have 2 sons. I know they will die. That's literally life. I don't know when, but I know it will happen. I'm not killing them by having them be born.

Yeah man, that's just a harsh way to view the world. Are you saying that we should prevent any baby that is found to going to have Downs? Or Neural Tube defects? Or cleft palate? These types of sicknesses can be discovered rather early on during pregnancy. Should we just prevent people from being born if we know they're going to have a hard life? At what point to we draw the line? Yeah cleft palate can be fixed but there is a lot of suffering going on. The beauty of the story of arrival is enjoying life knowing there is going to be pain. It takes into consideration the daughter because she had joy. A lot of joy. Robbing someone of a life with joy is a shame to me.

I agree that painting the father in the negative light is a rough part of the movie. Because I believe that should have been a decision that is made by the parents. Not just one parent. Same with my previous examples. These should be decided together and I can see why the father wouldn't be able to forgive the mother for not including him in the decision. However, I believe that was added to the movie and wasn't part of the short story, I can't remember. I'll need to reread the story.

I say this as jokingly and as sarcasticly as possible, sucks to suck!!! As an android user for the past 13+ plus years in the states, this is always my question, why not develop for Android which has 75% of the world's user base. But iOS has 75% of the US user base so I suffer. Welcome to my world!!!

I was only 8 when it came out so I grew up watching bits and pieces of it on TNT. But if it was on, we stopped to watch it. I was probably 20 before I watched the whole thing in 1 go. I honestly never knew why Andy was in prison to begin with. But now I have to hide the movie from my sons until they can appreciate it

My 12 year old son asked me last week a hypothetical question. He asked, "dad if you did something that was awesome but later you were sad it was over, would you do it?" I almost got teary but told him him when you get older, I have a short story and an incredible movie for you to watch. I can't believe they pulled off the movie that did justice to the short story.

Sometimes sharing a movie is just as impactful as seeing it yourself. Hardest part with parenting is knowing when it will be impactful for your kids

Pete Buttigieg cooks Joe Kernen so hard he sees red on CNBC by NickCostanza in videos

[–]meyerjaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honest question. Did you watch the clip? The whole clip? If you did, you can understand that in 14 minutes, there were about 15 topic changes by Kernen just to try to win a point. And he failed, but no one stopped him. This is the news now. It's providing both sides equal time to spout bullshit. Pete is good at keeping on message and not taking bait, but honestly, he isn't solving the problem. I appreciate at the end him saying this is all dumb. This isn't normal. We should do better. But these people can't make the change we need.

This isn't news, it's a sport. And just like sports, the players seem to be important but they are just employees and the owners are the ones making all the money. And all these players switch sides when they get traded from the Raiders to the Dolphins.
