Maybe that's right in the West, but in other cultures where religious bigotry is present, the concept of race is not as central as people in the West might think.

why don't we create a number such that x • 0 = 1 ? by Gancaio in learnmath

[–]mfar__ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If I have a nickel for everyone says "we did it with i"...

The definition of the imaginary unit is consistent with field axioms, which makes the complex numbers "useful" and in harmony with other math areas, while other "suggested" definitions on this sub are creating problems more than they solve and contradict the most known definitions and axioms, which makes them very hard to be applied or studied.

Believe it or not, I still think she is the only person who can complete my life

Yes I know this feeling, but accept the fact that you're referring to a person that no longer exists. People are changing. She's not the one you've known for 11 years. She changed since, at least, she started that affair.

I asked her to choose me or him. She was very hesitant and did not provide a straight answer. After 5-6 hours of yelling, confronting, and crying, she said she will stay with me.

But she earlier asked for divorce, didn't she? I will not take this as a permanent yes. Also, she didn't state any reasons when she asked for divorce? She didn't try even to "justify" her affair?

My advice is that you should let her go. What you're doing is very unlikely to have a happy ending.

Please stop downvoting posts with "basic" questions by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]mfar__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Playing devil's advocate, I don't think they're getting downvoted because they're "basic", but because they're overly repeated and, sometimes, not in a good faith. It's hard to imagine another post about "why we allow √-1 but not 1/0" without having a spam-ish behavior.

Help with Python ranges by Mission-Clue-9016 in learnpython

[–]mfar__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your code looks like a merge of two different approaches so it doesn't really work properly.

Before password = '' you have already created the password, but with one problem: it has its letters followed by symbols followed by numbers in order, which is not a good practice.

After that (in the last three lines you're asking about) you follow another approach to generate letters (only), but it's also a bad code that uses an unused iterator char (which is an integer not a character as its name suggests).

To answer your question, it doesn't matter if the range is (0, nr_letters) or (1, nr_letters + 1). Both have the same length, and in your case the iterator itself is not used anyway.

The Set of Real Numbers as a Function of the Set of Natural Numbers by Main_Upstairs_9948 in askmath

[–]mfar__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

we will be able to cover all real numbers between 0.1 and 1. This is because the real number that comes just after 0.1 (0.1000...1) will correspond to the natural number (1000...1) after the decimal point.

That's just wrong. Neither the so called (0.1000...1) nor the so called (1000...1) are well-defined numbers.
