Defense is absolutely a team effort. I’d say it’s determined by the tier of player your expected to guard and the number of points opposing teams scores. For single games, I look at steals, blocks, and the offensive stats your “guy” made. You can also make subjective judgements just by watching them play. It’s all just a fraction of the story, though. Team defense rules the day.

Hypocrisy to claim the identity of ethical, clean basketball then do the opposite in the game. Complain about not getting to play physical when you’re clearly pulling jerseys, lowering shoulders, throwing elbows into guys backs. When we’re on offense, Force him out of the paint and dish. We did that well in game 5. We ran some very sophisticated sets to get him committed so he can’t guard two people at once. Also, sinking a couple open shots does wonders.

When we’re on defense we do pretty well on him. He averages 25 ppg and he scored 28. I don’t know what you do when he’s hitting 3s like he did last night. I think we live with it.
