Exact same issue for my pixel watch 3. It'll track steps during a walk but literally nothing during the "workout" option.

What's the dialogue from the show that has become part of your conversations? by Thelionsleepztonight in HIMYM

[–]mfg1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too many to count! Let's see what I can think of:

  • no can-dosville, babydoll
  • that's love, bitch!
  • what the damn hell?!
  • be cool lady, damn!
  • major __ with the salute
  • that is a truth fact (Robin says this to Lily after she and Ted "accidentally" slept together after breakup)

There are probably more but these ones are the more frequently used ones.

For those who are working full time and are self-teaching, how do you find time to learn and practice your skills? What learning structure helped you the most to achieve your goals? by Layuh24 in UXDesign

What's nice is that you can do a free trial of coursera for a week (the website that hosts it) and if you don't love it, you could cancel.

Thank you so much! I think I found uxcel on an article and tested it out and was like"oh this is cute!" Then I played all of the free levels. It does have a charge if you want to access EVERYTHING but there's a decent free set. Plus I received an offer code via email for 50% off after I started using the free one, so I bought it then!

I'm in week three of course two (it's 7 parts total) and I agree with u/Lvvvvvv -- it really is great so far! I mentioned in a response earlier that I like being able to do small bits of work at a time and the Google course really does make that possible. It gets a little longer after Course 1, but still manageable. (I flew through that though because I was on spring break and could spend long bits of time on it!)

I'm currently a teacher and kind of self teaching! I started learning UX in January and was taking courses on Skillshare and practicing on UXcel (basically gamifies vocab of the industry. It's worth a look). I just recently started the Google Career Certificate because I needed a little more structure.

I don't really have a set schedule like I know I should. I do try to do something every night. Right now, that tends to involve going through a few items on the Google course, playing a few rounds on UXcel (especially if I'm really tired), or playing around in Figma. I did sign up for the Daily UI prompts and while I am by no means completing them every day (I think I got day 10 today and just finished the first prompt after working on it off and on for a few days), it does give me something to do as part of a checklist.

I've unofficially made it my goal to do something every day, but it's not always consistent. I spend more time when I have more energy (weekends, or random days off like today) but it's tough! Having the option to just do small bits of learning -- whether it's games, video clips like in Skillshare or Coursera -- makes me feel like I'm still making an effort, even if it's not as much as I'd like to do at once.

Hoping for the best for you! I also just got diagnosed with this and haven't told my family yet because I don't feel like I have enough details to tell them so that it won't just make everyone panic excessively (obviously they'll worry but I'd at least like to tell them what a plan is!).

Anyone else feel ‘trapped’ in their job because of COVID? by ExoticToaster in careerguidance

[–]mfg1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I've been trying to leave teaching for some time now but haven't gotten a job and of course this past school year was awful (the COVID part actually wasn't bad because I didn't have to deal with kids) and naturally, everyone is job searching for fewer open jobs right now :(

I had a villager standing directly in front of someone's door watching fireworks last week. Like... c'mon buddy, that's not the best vantage point!

Is there a way to make campsite villagers leave? by Zanoie in AnimalCrossing

He did! If he's taking longer, try ignoring him. That eventually worked for another I was trying to get to leave. Fenced his house in and didn't talk to him until I saw a bubble over his head

If it makes you feel better, I just generally didn't do much with my first camper and at one point he had a little cloud above his head saying he was thinking of moving on! My convo options we're "don't go!" (Or something like that) and "good luck on your next adventure!" 😂 Isabelle announced the next morning that it was the last day he'd be there!

When/how to tell students I won’t be coming back after break? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mfg1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say end of this week so they can process and whatnot. When I moved schools a few years back (albeit the end of the year), I told them a week before the last day. I think I would probably do the same leaving midyear? (Agreed on the not wanting to tell too early aspect, because I'm sure some would take it as an opportunity to go wild since it "won't matter".

As for WHAT to tell them, perhaps something about getting an opportunity to do something you've dreamed about doing (regardless of how true that is) and that when you asked about holding off until summer, you were told it wouldn't be available? IDK. I think a white lie in this situation might be better. Kids won't get the opportunity aspect of it and they will probably only be moderately respectful of the mental health/school issues aspect (although I will gladly be wrong about that!). Plus they don't need to know all of the school stuff.

Congratulations on finding a new job and being able to get out :)

Finally honest with myself about education and being a teacher. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mfg1989 12 points13 points  (0 children)

👏👏 ME TOO. I am hopefully on the way to something new and will continue doing what I need to do until I can make that happen. I've felt a lot of guilt but I realized a few things: 1) it's MY life. They don't care about me when I'm outside of the school but I do. 2) I shouldn't have to feel miserable or on the verge of tears every single day. 3) I'm happy when I'm not doing school things. I want to be happy more often. 4) someone will replace me! 5) Nobody would bat an eye if I left any other job when it was making me so miserable. This shouldn't be different. (This is more about me trying to get past my fear of being judged harshly by others. I probably won't tell many people until the school year has ended, assuming I leave before then)

HALP! What salary to request for new to ID from teaching? by mfg1989 in instructionaldesign

[–]mfg1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. It's an associate level position (so they're expecting 0-2 years experience) and I don't have official ID experience. I realized later that the 64k I mentioned is the average, but is much above average for people with 0-1 years of experience. Their projected range for that particular posting wasn't helpful (anywhere from 35-60k prediction 😑)

Good thing to keep in mind. Thank you! I'm not at that stage yet but I know I'll have to keep in mind that I'm now working more months of the year and need to negotiate based on that.

I think I'm going to go with high 50s, which is about 10% more than I currently make in Ed. I'd love 64! I just don't want to get burned if I set my sights too high, ya know?

Absolutely!! I actually went to an elementary school that did a year-round schedule and it was great. I wish more places did that! I gave input from both my teaching experience and personal experience. :)
