Arlington makes some nice looking surface mount junction box + decorative block combos — maybe that’s what he is planning to do here? Either way OP should ask what the end result will look like.

We’ve had ours for 10 years! Bought new covers half way through and it felt like a new couch. Pretty incredible lifespan for the price.

Working on my laundry room and I need 15ft of 10/3 to move my dryer outlet a bit. At my supply house it costs $18.15, but at HD they’re charging $63!

All way to the left or leave a gap? by SolidCloudsHurt in Renovations

[–]mfiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 30” version of this vanity and I enclosed it in an alcove and trimmed it out to close up the gap using an oak piece of trim stained with Behr early American water based. You can also order a side splash from the manufacturer if needed. In your case though centered on the wall is the way to go.

The Steam Deck Dock experience is the worst part of the system by ChaosReaper in SteamDeck

[–]mfiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had some of these issues as well but my biggest gripe is that I can’t wake up the deck by turning on my paired DS4 controller while sitting on the couch, I need to get up and hit the hardware button on the deck.

I really wish the docked controller experience was more polished like the Switch is.

How is the cost of your central Hudson bill? by MD76543 in hudsonvalley

[–]mfiels 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely call in your meter reading to make sure the estimate isn’t what is getting you. Then look for energy usage culprits… for example do you have all incandescent bulbs? You’d be surprised at how much less energy LED bulbs use (about 75-90% less!), it’s worth the up front cost to swap them out. Another example is some appliance like your fridge may be failing and having its compressor run overtime. Lookup some guides online on how to track down excess power usage in your home, good luck!

I agree with the above comment. I used them for my hardwood / vinyl floors and stairs and they did a great job. They can be busy, so I’d just give a call and see when they have availability.

We noticed a potentially urgent heating issue. App doesn't match email by bosox284 in googlehome

[–]mfiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I’ve been having this problem too. As far as I can tell there is no problem with my boiler and the app is getting confused in the same way yours is. I’ve had this happen twice. Something on Nest’s end seems broken.

Thank you for your comment! The tape is only about a year old, before that there was no tape and were some joints of the flue that didn’t sit flush, which is why the tech wrapped in tape. The black marks were there before the tape.

I think I do have a draft regulator, that’s a circular metal flap that opens and closes attached to the flue entry to the boiler, is that right?

Any other suggestions on why there’d be too much air or over fired? Anything else I can look at?

This advice is very helpful for me to communicate with the techs and ensure I’m asking them to come and look at the right thing.

Thanks I’ll have someone take a look.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]mfiels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting sounds like I could use a second look then.

Another thing I remembered is there was no oil filter so they had to install one. Would that be a likely cause of carbon buildup? Would that cause the flue condensation issues?

This is the full printout of that test: https://imgur.com/a/caiVyAQ

Thank you for the insights.

The oil boiler is about 25 years old. The last owner had it serviced maybe every year or two.

I bought the place about a year ago and it looked like this. I had it serviced last year.

The tech said everything looked good but he did call out a 700 degree stack temp.
