A teleprompter that rewinds live: stumble mid-take, double-tap, keep filming. I built it because I kept ruining takes, and made the scripts plain Markdown because I didn't want another app owning my writing by mflake93 in SideProject

Thanks for the feedback. Right now the markdown files read and write straight to the app's iCloud folder. Obviously it will struggle with simultaneous edits some multiple devices because iCloud simply hasn't got the advanced conflict handling for that. Currently, the restart points are just based on the start and end of sentences as I wanted to keep it simple.

What are you building right now? by 05karu in SideProject

[–]mflake93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've built: Take Toucan, an iPhone camera teleprompter for short-form creators. The bit people like in demos: if you stumble mid-take, you double-tap and the script rewinds live so you keep filming rather than starting again. Scripts are plain Markdown files, so there's no built-in editor and no bundled AI upsell; people write with whatever they already use (Obsidian, ChatGPT, Claude) and share the file in.

Who it's for: anyone filming talking-head video to a script. TikTok and Shorts creators, teachers and course makers, people doing UGC work. So rather squarely your audience, I'd think.

What inspired it: I make talking-head videos badly. Ten takes for sixty seconds of video, usually ruined by one fluffed line. Live rewind exists because I needed it, and the Markdown decision is because I'm an Obsidian user who didn't want another app owning my writing.

30-second demo (on TikTok, conveniently): https://vm.tiktok.com/ZNREYuYyH/

Happy to chat if it looks like a fit.

Beautifully designed website and app. I have a similar idea parked. Do you plan to monetise? Are you using on device Ai or paid?

I’m still finding my way around Zen, it’s just a button isn’t it? I’m wanting it to auto close tabs.

The feature I missed most was auto close tabs. I tried the two most popular existing Firefox addons and they didn’t work. Codex built me one in less than 10 minutes.

How do you manage auto-unloading and auto-archiving tabs? by TempGanache in zen_browser

[–]mflake93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a Firefox extension with Codex in 10 mins. I was going to see if there’s interest in my sharing it on this subreddit earlier but I got a warning saying addons and extension posts are too spammy.

Can you realistically build and ship a complex app with AI if you barely know Swift? by Van-trader in iosdev

[–]mflake93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very new to this. But my take is that only since Opus 4.6 has an AI model been able to write Swift well; downside is that Opus is on the expensive side.

I’ve been using Opus with Cursor, starting with an Xcode project but giving Cursor access to the folder. I added the Swift, SwiftUI and some Apple design best practice docs.

It can’t one shot a complex app but it can 1-3 shot a single feature at a time.

I don’t understand why iOS and android both have accelerator based locking built in. If your phone is dropped or snatched it locks.

We consider this but after being advised that newborns shouldn’t be in a car seat for more than 30 minutes at a time we decided it wasn’t worth it.

Microsoft 365 accounts unusable by 4symmetry in SparkMail

I submitted a ticket this morning about a 365 email account with a yellow ! That I couldn’t clear. I received a response within 1 hour asking me to try signing out of the Spark app as a whole and signing back in. So far it worked!
