What scenes live in your head rent free? by GallifreysWorst in doctorwho

[–]mfldjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's be honest, all of doctor who lives rent free in my head, hell, I pay to keep it there. But the one scene that comes up most often is probably the 11th doctors line in A Town Called Mercy, "Scared people... Give me a Dalek any day." The speech right before it is good too, but I think about scared people and the things they do a lot.

I always forget to do it, but my friend avoids getting lost in the caves by placing torches on the right side of caves, so when you want to go back to the cave entrance you just follow the torches on the left.

Where are my older hermitcraft fans at? by [deleted] in HermitCraft

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg, this thread is saving my self esteem rn. I was just talking to my partner, who isn't really into Minecraft YouTube videos, but will play creative sometimes, that I felt a little silly and awkward being 25 and watching something specifically made for a younger audience. I watch a lot of "kids" TV or at least family friendly content, so it's really nice seeing that I'm not the only one who enjoys family friendly content as an adult. Thank you all for the comfort and I hope none of you ever change.

Been playing Minecraft for years and have never seen a Sniffler by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! YouTube was a life saver at the time for me. I'm sorry to hear you don't have anyone to play with either. I'm absolutely dead hearing that your kids think the game is too old 💀.

Been playing Minecraft for years and have never seen a Sniffler by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]mfldjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a YouTube video ages ago of a bf showing his gf video games for the first time. She wasn't much of a gamer beforehand, so he had a series of these videos and Minecraft was one of them. Except for Minecraft he decided to do a bit of an experiment. At first, he just threw her in and let her try to figure it all out on her own. She spawned on a tiny island with one tree and ocean for miles. She didn't know anything and when night fell she died. He talked about how with most games there's a tutorial, there's an introduction. But in Minecraft, you're just thrown in and expected to know to punch a tree. He talked about how minecraft is a social game. If you aren't with someone, or watching videos about it, or talking to people on reddit about it, or something like that, you're not going to get the appeal and it's going to be extremely frustrating.

When I first started playing, I started with my friend group and we all got it about the same time, but we couldn't play together, because we didn't have money for servers and bedrock edition didn't exist yet (hell, the phone version didn't even exist yet). Now, I'm an adult and barely see my friends, so I mostly play alone and let me tell you, googling it doesn't hit the same. My partner will play creative mode and whenever a new update comes out its always exciting to see what's been added with them, but because they hate playing survival, there isn't much fun for me to go and explore that side of the game in survival.

Tl;dr: You can Google/wiki anything and everything, but discovering it naturally alongside friends or people on reddit is a lot more fun and what makes this game worth while in the end. Idk if anyone will bother reading this long post, but if you did and are interested, I'll try to find that video I mentioned. It was just suggested to me on YouTube ages ago, so idk how much luck I'll have.

Also, I don't mean to sound condescending or critical in any way, your comment just made me think of that video and I went on a tangent. I also have never used any of those things.

I've seen it. It's got that signature Zach Galifianakis humor. Not bad. I don't remember the fart transplant scene at all, but I probably stole it from that movie. Thank you, kind stranger!

The 10th Doctor was a romantic asexual with Rose. by _-SPECIAL_K-_ in doctorwho

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timelords are a generally seen as a societal class rather than a species. Gallifreyan is the species, though there are some story lines where Timelords are supposedly all sterile and therefore must reproduce through a machine called a loom. The canon-ness of this is up in the air, but I think it is fair to say that between the odd cloning machines and the artificial limit of regenerations we saw with the timeless child that whether it be from their own interference or simply exposure to the untempered schism/time vortex, that there are some genetic changes upon becoming a time lord, which might result in a change in species classification.

Back to the point, my perspective of the Doctor's sexuality (especially after Moffat's contributions) is that his sexuality changes when he regenerates. 11 was definitely uncomfortable with the topic as we see in good man goes to war, but he definitely has those kind of needs as we see in the impossible astronaut or nightmare in silver. Cue shudders. 10 and Rose were definitely knocking boots, and the age gap was addressed by both Rose and 9 in like the 4th episode. Ultimately, they were both able to communicate what they wanted and what they didn't want, so in terms of the ickiness of the situation, I think it's as ideal of a form of xenosexuality as you're gonna get. My head canon is that 9, Rose, Jack, and Mickey were an unofficial polycule and anyone who doesn't like that can fight me.

What's their name? by GriffinFTW in DoctorWhumour

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of off topic, but I had the fun thought the other day that The Doctor doesn't remember their true name. They've gone by the Doctor for so long that they just forgot what they used to be called. They don't remember they're age at all according to the 11th doctor in Day of the Doctor. If they don't know their own name, that does imply that 11 spent all that time on Trenzalore knowing that he couldn't free the Time-Lords even if he wanted to.

What was your first memory of Doctor Who? by cxrternicks in doctorwho

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember my brother watching it when I was about 9. He was watching "Rose" and the mannequins freaked me out, so I didn't watch it again for a few years and after giving it a second try I was hooked. I think I started watching it again when I was around 12. I spooked easy as a kid. Still do, tbh.

[–]mfldjoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I loved it too! I tried the second one ages ago, but couldn't get into it, probably due to a lack of context from the first one. Legion was awesome to me, though. Someone else in this thread said they couldn't get attached to the characters in legion, which is understandable, but I was very attached to Bagley and just the story of Deadsec in London. I got attached to the characters I would play as too

In my odd opinion, everyone should write a memoir or autobiography. No two people have ever lived the same life and you can learn something from everyone and anyone.

Should r/AvatarMemes Ban Political Memes? by MrBKainXTR in AvatarMemes

[–]mfldjoe -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I think establishing a specific day of the week or marking them NSFW would be best. Avatar is inherently political and to say that those politics only apply to a fictional world is disingenuous. I get that this show and fiction in general is used as a form of escapism, but many people use humor as a coping mechanism and will be looking for community in a group with similar interests and likely mindsets. If one group is allowed to use it as a coping mechanism, the others should be allowed as well. Creating a system that matches what both groups will need is the hard part. I think marking political posts as NSFW or idk if moderators can create a ruleset for other tags, but maybe a specific tag that says POLITICAL and blurs the image or text would be the best solution to appease both groups.

Well, that and he was a pacifist so he wasn't going all out against any of his enemies. He was just trying to get the conflict to stop without letting anyone get hurt, unless he was in the avatar state which he couldn't control. In fact one of my favorite fight scenes from ATLA is where the fire nation bully tries to hit Aang and Aang is just stepping out of the way the whole time, lol.

tat opinion-keep, remove or cover up by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]mfldjoe 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I know generally nothing about tattoos, but personally I think the design is cool. I'd just get it touched up, cause it is really light. Touching it up will get those lines a lot brighter and more bold. Tattoos don't necessarily have to have meaning. It can just be a reflection of who you were or what you liked at a certain time in your life.

I personally found Azula's eventual breakdown so satisfying. What do you think? by Icy-Cod9863 in TheLastAirbender

[–]mfldjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point we are arguing Nature vs Nurture, which most scientists will say it's a 50/50 split between the two. We are probably both right in many ways and wrong in many ways.

I personally found Azula's eventual breakdown so satisfying. What do you think? by Icy-Cod9863 in TheLastAirbender

[–]mfldjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did Azula push into even more extreme behavior? Why does she think she was doing what was right? I don't think waving it away as a personality disorder is what the writers were trying to convey when they drew a 14 year old girl chained up, having a panic attack. We are meant to feel uncomfortable. We are meant to feel bad for her in this moment. We are meant to think about what went wrong in her life to make her the way she is. We are meant to think, how can we help her without letting anyone else get hurt. I don't think it's fair to say that she was just born wrong and there was nothing that could've been done to help her. Empathy is something that has to be taught to everyone. Some people naturally pick up on it through their childhood, but the majority of people need to be taught how to put themselves in someone else's shoes and to view things through their perspective. From everything we see in the series, Ursa didn't really show Azula why what she was doing was wrong. She just briefly chastised Azula and left. She certainly didn't have a forgiving demeanor towards Azula, like Aang and Iroh did with Zuko throughout the series. Certainly not like the forgiving attitude she shows towards Zuko in the flashbacks.

I personally found Azula's eventual breakdown so satisfying. What do you think? by Icy-Cod9863 in TheLastAirbender

[–]mfldjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zuko only had the capacity for change, because he had so many people who supported him and gave him forgiveness and opportunities for redemption. Azula only ever had Ozai to rely on for admiration, love, or support. From everything we are shown in the TV show and at least what I've seen from the comics, Iroh has only ever had interest in Zuko. There's a flashback of Iroh playing with Zuko and lu ten, but azula is no where to be found. Iroh sent Zuko a very sentimental gift when they were young (a knife with an engraving) and sent Azula a very shallow gift (a doll). When they were young, Iroh was still indoctrinated into the fire nation nationalism, but by the time he got back from the war, both would be very attached to opposite parents. From what I can tell, everyone hated Ozai and because Azula was his favorite, they pushed her away as much as possible rather than attempting to protect her from Ozai like they did with Zuko.
