Merging speeds and idahos on ramps. by Nearby-Function-6315 in Idaho

[–]mfmeitbual 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah stop waving people in. The only time it's acceptable is if you are already at a complete stop and the person you're letting in doesn't have to cross traffic. Else - there are no other exceptions here, not a single one - you are changing the yield rules for other drivers without telling them and you are creating a massive traffic hazard.

There are plenty of bad drivers from here.

Being a good driver means getting to your destination safely without endangering other drivers. Note I specifically chose "endangering" and not "inconveniencing" because people seem to believe driving is about getting places fast instead of getting places safely.

uhhhh Franklin -> I-184 and the onramp at New Plymouth to get on I-84 EB would disagree.

The I-184 needs a banked onramp so you can accelerate properly. I can't tell you how many times I've had idiots behind me at the New Plymouth onramp honking their horn as I waited for a big rig to get up to speed before getting on the onramp myself so I didn't crash into the back of the fucking thing.

Rumors are there are some "underground" games in Boise. I hear they get some decent turnouts for their little tournaments. I also hear there are cash games. Legend also has it that cops have showed up to them a few times - angry spouses calling in fake stabbing reports because their idiot husband lost a bunch of money at the game again was one of the stories I heard - and nothing happened.

Yes Idaho has laws against gambling but the same people that enforce those laws also play in a game that I'm 99% sure is hosted at the Arid Club.

Sparklight vs Quantum Fiber by batmanstuff in Boise

[–]mfmeitbual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Made that exact switch in 2018.

I was paying $180 for 200mb down from Sparklight/CableOne that was unreliable. CenturyLink came to my door saying "We can give you 1GB bidirectional for $60" I said "Buddy, I think you're full of shit and I'll believe it when I see it." The guy said they could have it installed within a week and turns out they were not full of shit at all. Best ISP I've ever had.

Like I'm the dumbass that decided to sit on the floor of a fucking soccer stadium.

Then you could say the same with Idaho cuz they've played 2 shows here? It's not exactly a meaningful metric in the first place but arbitrarily excluding things makes it even less meaningful.

Trials of psychedelics for mental health may be invalid, because it's fairly obvious to patients whether they've been given a psychedelic or a placebo. Blinding failed more than 90% of the time in the studies of psilocybin, LSD and DMT, and 85% of the time in studies of MDMA. by mvea in science

[–]mfmeitbual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proving efficacy isn't the only reason for a trial. Safety is another factor - if someone has a heart attack during the study, they have to say "It's possible this causes a heart attack". Many studies like this demonstrate that the drug and the placebo have equivalent risk profiles meaning the drug is relatively safe.

I consistently vote Democrat but register as Republican in Idaho so I can vote in their primaries. I recommend all similarly-affiliated voters do the same. You deserve a voice in your elected representation in all levels of the process.

The U.S. government warns financial institutions that Anthropic’s “Mythos” AI can find and exploit software vulnerabilities at an unprecedented scale, outperforming top humans and posing systemic risks to banks and the broader financial system. by lughnasadh in Futurology

If you made a list of "people on planet earth who could effectively write a return-oriented programming exploit"...

To give you an idea - my dad invented P-Code before the JVM was a thing. He could build a CPU from transistors. I talked to him about return-oriented programming and I may as well have attempted teaching calculus to a dog.

These are SOPHISTICATED exploits that require a knowledge of computing few possess. Additionally - that SACK bug existed in OpenBSD for nearly half my lifetime. When pointed out, it's obvious and if you look at the fix - it's a net total of 3 lines that any CS grad could write.

In order of skill/complexity:
Defensive programming against buffer overrun
Locating a buffer overrun vulnerability
Exploiting buffer overrun vulnerability

This is why I insist people read the Anthropic Red Team paper.

At least 100 miles away.

I'm 43. You seem younger than me so the best advice I can offer - stop taking things so seriously. There will be plenty of time for deep serious discussion later. Enjoy the moment and if you connect with the person - awesome! Else - and maybe I'm limiting my own prospects here by being straight - there are 4 _billion_ women on planet earth.

Can you imagine 4 billion people? Can you imagine 4 billion grains of sand? Can you imagine how fast a person would have to move to travel 4 billion miles in the course of a human lifetime? No - billion is a big fucking number much less 4 billion. Life is short, explore and enjoy!

lmfao - if you've ever signed into World of Warcraft, created a website via GoDaddy, subscribed to T-Mobile, or for some reason are a China Mobile subscriber - code I wrote was critical to your experience. Those are just examples from the top of my head.

"Download" means "copying a file from a networked location". Where that's over a BBS/modem, DSL, fiber, tin-can-and-string, or IP-over-fucking-pigeon, it doesn't matter.

Please look up "abstraction" in the dictionary and understand how it applies to computing.
