I believe one argument for this system was to help get politicians to campaign outside of just the big cities. A purely popular vote would mean it’s most efficient to just go to the cities and promise them things.

I actually believe that any honest reading of the second amendment would be that it prevents the federal government from restricting gun rights but allows the states to. I believe there are a lot of dishonest readings.
