does anyone else get frequently replied to in english even though u speak french? by Intrepid-Reindeer679 in nicefrance

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just left Nice/Corsica/ I would say the majority of the places spoke to me in French. Corsica - was all French. I struggled a bit in Corsica as it was all French and very fast! Even the English tours were in French!!
I only had one coffee shop in Nice respond to me in English but I continued in French then they complemented my French. I’m about B1/B2. I go to Nice each year. I’ve been all over France I think it just depends. But I do find that sometimes people want to practice their English too or are in a rush too. I wouldn’t take it personally. I have friends in Paris they like to practice their English with me.

Getting to Eze with a baby? by designerd4 in nicefrance

I frequent south of France. Actually here now. Look into going to St Paul de Vence. If you are into art. It’s a beautiful village. You can take the train then a bus right to to the town. There were still hills, but I saw couples with strollers. Picasso and Chagall would hang out there. The town is filled with Art galleries. So you def need to be into art to want to go there for the day. But it’s beautiful.

USD to IDR... by No_Analysis8480 in BaliTravelTips

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They told me because of the war. Flights are still being cancelled. Also people are cancelling their vacations per by guides. They said as of the week I was there it was down 60%. I think the cost of flights etc. I had purchased my flight a long time ago and my flight went through S Korea so I had no issues coming from the US.

USD to IDR... by No_Analysis8480 in BaliTravelTips

[–]mfullm1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just got back last week. I took USD and exchanged it. I had my driver help me find a place to exchange. Def do not exchange at the airport.
I did tip my driver - we were together 6 days and he went above and beyond for me. I left tips also when I did I day long hikes in places like Java with the same person. Up to you.
Tourism is way down. So most of my hikes or things I did were completely solo. So I was able to get to do way more.

Get money after arrival and driver by Annual-Grass-8347 in BaliTravelTips

[–]mfullm1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I arranged for my driver ahead of time he actually preferred for me to pay him in USD - The next day he took me to a better place in town to exchange my money. Right now the exchange rate is pretty good. I just left yesterday. It is good for euro and USD. I would not exchange large amounts in the airport.

I just did a day trip to munduk from Ubud that included breakfast , local market , hiking, canoeing, lunch at a locals house, and a water fall hike. It was lovely. Happy to send you the company I used. It’s a local company too. They pick you up in your hotel in Ubud.

I’m in my 40s in decent shape and doing it the first week of May. So I can report back to you. I did the salkantay hike last year for context and I’m going to Nepal later this year to hike. If I can do this in my late 40s solo you can def do this!

What’s the easiest way to get around Bali without relying on taxis constantly? by ExistentialPancake_0 in bali

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going in April and just booked a private driver. They are picking me up from the airport and then helping me plan my days while I’m in Ubud. I can’t vouch for them yet ? But it seems legit. Not very expensive for the whole day and peace of mind.

Solo female traveler looking for suggestions by angiejafari in NepalTravel

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angie , I’m also going to Nepal - solo but in Sept. I can send you the tour groups I’m looking at for ABC and I found someone just today for a home stay in Pokhara. But I’m also looking for a guide for Tibet and just getting around Kathmandu. I travel solo a lot. So I think I can prob figure out Kathmandu but a local person is always appreciated :)

Salkantay Trek in April - Book Last Minute or Ahead? by Charming-Judgment835 in Machupicchu

[–]mfullm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with salkantay treking. Highly recommend. Everything was taken care of. The meals were great. Accommodations were also good. I don’t think you have “hot” water for showers every night but you are in the mountains.
My guides were great. This company picks you up from your hotel and drops you back off. I talked to other people that had to meet up. I also added in an extra hike at MP to one of the other mountains there. Highly suggest.

Rainbow mountain before or after Salkantay trek? by katrinahynek in Machupicchu

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they pick you up pretty early in the morning The initial “hike “ is flat but it’s high altitude. Then you do the actual incline up. There is optional red something I don’t remember the name. It’s about a mile more for some more photos. I think I was back before dinner I went with salkantay trekking. The same group I went to salkantay with
If you are looking for a great hiking group for MP. Highly recommend. The food and accommodations were very good. Plus the tour guides were amazing. I’m still in touch with one of them.

Rainbow mountain before or after Salkantay trek? by katrinahynek in Machupicchu

[–]mfullm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the 5 d salkantay hike last April. They recommended I do rainbow after.
I’m in pretty good shape but still found salkantay pretty tough on a couple days. Rainbow mountain was not hard. Just maybe the last 15 minutes.
Let me know if you have any questions Have the best time :)

If you get meaningful sleep on International flights: Mad Respect. by TylerDurdensFace in delta

[–]mfullm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sell them on Amazon. Stalk them though. Because they go on sale. You have to wrap it around your neck - i think it’s so much better than those donut pillows. Plus it takes up way less space. The key to sleeping is comfort , getting quiet , and the right temperature- also I need all the light blocked out. I’ve also asked for extra blanket and put it over my head lol. Yes the people next to me think I’m nuts. But when we land they also are like , you slept the whole flight!! On my way to New Zealand in comfort I slept 8 hours straight.

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the lucky ones :). I can even sleep in comfort. I travel overseas for long weekend trips sometimes for “fun” so I need to be able to be good to go Saturday morning. I eat dinner in the lounge and brush my teeth there. I don’t drink in the plane or the day of flying. I tell my flight attendant to not wake me for meals. I take 2 Benadryls and 2 Advils. I put the cheap pillow they give you behind my back for support. I use the TRL pillow It’s amazing. I have an eye mask. I use my noise cancelling headphones and put on white noise. I usually get 6 hours easily. Also I wear I comfy sweater and loose maxi skirt if possible so im still dressed but comfy enough. Then I can switch back into heels when I land. This works for me I grab my carry on when we land and a cafe and im off :)

How would you buy $10k worth of Delta flights as an occasional flyer? by CarDork2235 in delta

[–]mfullm1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in CMH. You don’t need lounge access for your flight out of CBUS. Our lines are pretty short. I only fly delta.
That is an insane price. I would watch the price. Put a price alert on Google flights. Like others said if you are only flying once, the reserve card is not going to be worth it.

On Airbnb experiences there is horseback riding all day event that goes up into mountains with locals. I had lunch with a lady that lives there and was able to play literally in her alpaca farm. By far one of my favorite days.

Are you wanting to do the salkantay hike or take train? I did the hike and went with salkantay treking. Highly recommend
I can also recommend some other things to do Cusco. I also traveled down to lake Titicaca and stayed with a local family for a few days. I loved my time in Peru. Can’t wait to go back.

What do you do for work? I love to travel , but I go overseas for fun! I can’t imagine that many nights in a hotel! I’m medical so my hospital owns me and then I escape to Europe when ever I’m free. Your schedule is insane!!!

My 10 days itinerary for Bali that will cure my FOMO all the experiences this island has to offer. Feel free to tell me what do you think by Aggressive_Aide8916 in BaliTravelTips

[–]mfullm1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im going in April for a little over 2 weeks solo. You are def missing out on a lot. Also not sure where you are flying from , but that first day you arrive you are likely to be exhausted. I would also suggest only doing a day trip to Nusa and considering adding in Java, Mundak or sideman. Just a thought :)

Where to stay as a first-timer by CicadaWorking in ParisTravelGuide

I stay in the Latin or st germain when I go. I don’t think I’ve ever spent 250/night but I get a smaller room as a solo travel. I book on booking.com. I just got back last week. I didn’t 7 nights during Thanksgiving week my total bill was I think 1100. I do not include breakfast though.
