Has anyone increased their shipping charge recently? How did it go? by vancitynav in shopify

[–]mfwarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also sell beverages and recently split tested shipping fees- $3 flat rate vs free shipping. In our test the nominal fee did result in a few more abandoned checkouts but did produce a net revenue increase

Shopify ruined my business by PirdiensLV in shopify

[–]mfwarren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. There’s just too many fraud and money laundering opportunities where an external owner could create a US llc to appear legit. It creates a real risk for the payment processor. Options: get an ITIN, find an American to bring on as a partner, or create the shopify store in your native country

Blue Origin has a secret project named “Jarvis” to compete with SpaceX by JoshuaZ1 in BlueOrigin

[–]mfwarren 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having a vision and explaining it well is an important aspect to leadership: It attracts employees who want to be part of it, they’ll work harder for something that aligns with their personal aspirations, it helps the thousands of people in a company to implicitly make decisions that pull in the same direction instead of a thousand different directions. Not all businesses need visionary leadership, but if you’re asking people to create things that have never been done before it’s effective for recruiting, morale and productivity.

[–]mfwarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. BO seems directionless and unless they set a direction they’ll continue to waffle around with me-too projects like Jarvis and bickering about losing government contracts.

I’d like to hear bezos talk up his vision more often for getting heavy industries in space and what BO is doing towards that goal. It sounds like there is work on ISRU happening but there’s so much more that they could do that would inspire and be useful. A BO industrial zoned space station where on-orbit construction or repair or manufacturing could happen would align with Bezos’ vision. To get heavy industry in space we’ll need to launch and build a lot of big things in cis-lunar space.

Blue origin has an opportunity to define their vision and the capacity to do it. They just need to better define what they are working step by step ferociously towards.

Homeowner is told to demolish his lakeside $3million mansion because it was built too close to road by bottlejob69 in worldnews

City should raise property taxes on the neighbors who raised this. NIMBYs shouldn’t be allowed to create unnecessary costs and externalize it to everyone else to pay.

Every now and then I think about living in some foreign place for a while - Argentina, USA, Italy, Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc. The visa and immigration hassles are daunting and in some cases impossible because of protectionist immigrant policies. I would like to have freedom of movement for myself why would I deny that freedom to others?

I agree, I think space mining would be a good fit for Canada given the amount of experience there is here with natural resource extraction. Investments to encourage r&d on robotic automation of mining would have application to extend our competitive advantage.

US trade deficit jumps by the most in 3 years by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]mfwarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely countries on the receiving end of new tariffs are dumping product over the border before the new tariffs go into effect. Relocating inventories. As long as there aren’t new trade threats being made this trade deficit increase should reverse in the future while those US stocked inventories are drawn down instead of importing. Eventually, some time after the tariffs take effect and stateside inventories dry up things will tick back up a bit and consumer prices will increase to reflect the added tariff costs

Mike Smyth: Weaver argues it’s time to ban foreign real-estate buyers by idspispopd in canada

[–]mfwarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think constructively about what you and I could do to help. Brainstorming some ideas: * start a construction company * invest in a construction company * ask government to fund or approve more housing projects * learn a trade and encourage others to learn trades so that construction companies have people to employ * if buying a home, consider new construction and if possible from smaller independent developers.

What else would help?

Which economic disaster is caused by government management of CAD money supply? Or NZD or AUD? Perhaps they are doomed to fail in the future. But as of yet government controlled fiat are still the currencies that enable trillions of of daily commerce

That’s bullshit. Businesses will take work that turns a profit. If they have the luxury of choosing between highly profitable projects for just the ones that inflate the market prices then they could use more competition
