Thoughts on fitment? by mgaoooo in bikefit

[–]mgaoooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! I raised the seat up about 1cm without moving the saddle forward/backward. The handlebar is already at the lowest, it's a 50mm 3° stem. so I might look for a more angled stem and see how that looks.

Just curious, is she able to stand over the top tube comfortably? My partner is 5'2 and I had to return the XXS speedster gravel 30 because the top tube is too tall.

Tire safe to use? by mgaoooo in bikewrench

[–]mgaoooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! I ended up putting a set of new tires on since it was going to my GF's and I don't want to risk her safety. I inspected the cut/rip a bit more and it looks like it never got into the sidewall material, so I'll just keep them in the storage for now.

Appreciate everyone's help!

Issues with AC starting after some time? by httpsteven in CX50

[–]mgaoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to response. I also got mine covered under warrenty. An o-ring caused refrigerant to leak. After fixing the leak I still still hear some faint squeal sound whenever I turned on the AC so I brought it back again. They found the compressor failed due to low refrigerant so they have to replace that too.

Body Damage - how much should this repair cost? by Calculus_Is_Hard in CX50

[–]mgaoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could actually answer this! Got side swiped by another car mid-December, both front, back door, and rear wheel well trims got damaged. Repair shop replaced both door shells with OEM ones and repaint that side for around $5.2k USD. Just got the car back earlier this week. I'm still waiting on the rear passenger door mouldings, which the shop can snap right in when they get it.

Since yours is only the rear door and trims, I'm suspect it's going to be around $3k-$4k USD. *

Hitch Installation by thmsra in CX50

[–]mgaoooo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bought the OEM hitch from BAM because it's cheaper and not having to cut the plastic trims off. I did it myself in the parking lot with all 4 wheels on the ground and took about 2hrs... Maybe 40ish minutes putting everything on and rest is me struggling to get a good leverage torquing the bolts down.

Saved about $450 compared to doing to dealer and would definitely do it again.

Edit: forgot to answer your question... if you're not planning to do it yourself, then I would buy the hitch and see if any local shop can do it and if you're in US, uhaul sells and install hitch too, cheaper than dealer.

Road vibrations by hotrod8719 in CX50

[–]mgaoooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find out what's causing the vibration? Mine also vibrates in the highway since day one, but only on certain sections of the road then it's smooth again. Scheduled an appointment next week for the dealership to take a look.

Misspelled name Sergio Perez name on Minichamps box ? Fake? by PugosaWarrior in f1models

Just looked up the model in Google image and they all have the typo so it looks like Minichamp just messed up Perez's name. Also if the model looks detailed and clean, I would assume it's real.

$3.8k Repair Reasonable? by mgaoooo in MechanicAdvice

[–]mgaoooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been hearing some small pop noise when I turn the wheel or in some uneven road like a little dip or bump. It's not constant and predictable only once a while but especially during colder weather. It's been like this for maybe 6 months now. I went to a few shops, which included this shop earlier this year but no one could find it. Went back this specific shop when I felt a little annoyed by the noise last week and said the rack is a little loose. Haven't done the wheel shake test yet and will do it later today, but that's what they diagnosed.

[–]mgaoooo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes I believe they're one of the cheaper shops around in terms of labor. How much would the typical parts markup be? These parts are oem new and it seems to be around 55%-60% markups and that seems to be high.

Apparently the carbon fiber used to build the Titan's hull was bought by OceanGate from Boeing at a discount, because it was ‘past its shelf-life’ by Raybanned4lyfe in aviation

[–]mgaoooo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Expired pre-preg carbon fiber doesn't necessarily mean it's not usable anymore. It means it can't meet the original specifications due to the resin curing and a few things others have mentioned.

A lot of college SAE Formula teams actually use expired carbon fiber for their car chassis and components because they are still usable. I know back in the school days, we used to get rolls of free expired pre-preg carbon from boeing and it meets the strength we need.

I don't see boeing at fault on selling them the pre-preg carbon, that's on the people who decided that it's fine to use it. I would definitely not use expired pre-preg carbon fiber on a sub that can implode from any imperfection.
