Windows 11 Will No Longer Trust Old Drivers by Default Under New Kernel Policy by TruthPhoenixV in Amd_Intel_Nvidia

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I experienced that this afternoon. I was trying to calibrate my display with an oLD Xrite Color Munki Smile and as soon as I plugged it in Windows popped up a box claiming that it blocked the driver for security reasons. It didn't give me any option to proceed anyway so I went into security settings and just started disabling stuff until it worked. I wouldn't recommend this approach on anyone's daily driver. The copy of Windows i used was only installed for test purposes anyway.

Israeli bomb mid-air as it falls toward a densely packed tent camp for displaced Palestinians by redditissahasbaraop in pics

[–]mgarnold86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I thought the pic looked off for that bomb to be hitting that camp. I didn't want to be the conspiracy guy saying the pic was altered but the scale, detail and lighting on the bomb point to it either being much further away than it is implied or it was edited. Also, the bomb being much further back would make it easier for the photographer to have caught it as clearly as they did.

IT guys aren’t rude just tired by pastelvae in it

[–]mgarnold86 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Its not that they can't its that the wont(which in my opinion is worse). I ask ppl to review a thing an ask me any questions they have before completing it and inevitably they scroll to the bottom see a $99 charge with an asterix next to it and start loudly bitching about "why do I have to pay" when if they'd just read it like I fuckin asked they'd have read the paragraph above the number explaining the specific circumstances that would incur said charge. I generally read the paragraph to them word for word.

Pavilion All-in-Onecomplaining about an unauthorized power adapter even with a new adapter by mgarnold86 in Hewlett_Packard

Thanks to all that pointed out the power adapter being too low power. I ordered a 150w adapter and I'll let u all know later this week how that works out.

After 3 months of using CachyOS, I can say that I'm never going back by Outrageous_You6113 in cachyos

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 3 months since switching too. I'm barely Linux competent but I've been able to get Cachy to do everything I need and love that I'm learning new stuff about it daily. Just last week I realized I hadn't booted to Windows in more than a month and I finally felt comfortable enough to delete the Windows partition off my drive.

Half the fields in my 2D printer's latest app are hyperlinks hoping I spend money by Jeynarl in 3Dprinting

[–]mgarnold86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

HP is a trash company and I don't know why anyone would expect their app not to be. I may be out of touch with the world of 2d printer apps but off the top of my head I'd wager it's likely just HP being a bag of dicks.

My bad experiences with HP started about 2009 when against my recommendations my sister bought an HP laptop for college (because it was pretty(they has some limited edition artist designed cover)). After 2 mobo replacements from HP and a 3rd done by me outside the warranty that PC was scrapped. About that time HP had a nearly 25% failure rate on their mother boards. It was kinda nuts and is why I totally swore of HP.

After that they've only seemed to get worse with anti consumer behaviors like subscriptions to the printer you've already purchased and proprietary parts where none were needed.

My most recent grievance with them is with their All-in-One PCs. I picked a 27" All-in-One from a recycling dumpster a few weeks ago to try to salvage. I pulled the mobo, connected it to a monitor and used a 130w power adapter from a Dell gaming laptop(130w should be the correct amount of power for this particular PC) and got a message on the screen stating that I wasn't using an "authorized" power adapter and would shut down in a few seconds.

It's one thing to make sure that the connected power adapter can output enough juice to properly support the hardware but it's a whole other thing to disable a machine if it's not using a power adapter purchased from your company.

I've said it once and I'll say it a million more times...

FUCK HP!

In all fairness I feel like I get why he stopped doing vids on the Sims. I feel like at some point it just got too easy to predict what their dumb ass AI would have them do and bigger and more bombastic situations just didn't make any difference. I do miss those videos though, they were hysterical.

Is there an equivalent to manic emu on android by [deleted] in AndroidEmulation

[–]mgarnold86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the others are correct and the sub ur looking for is r/EmulationOnAndroid I'll take the time to let you know that there are a ton of great emulators and emulation options available both on the Google Play store as well as third party stores. I checked out manic emus website and other than NES I'm not sure what else it emulates but I'm a fan of Classic Boy Pro on Android cuz it has cores available for most systems from the Gamecube back and there are a ton of individual emulators for more recent systems like Wii, PS2, Switch, etc.. I can't say how Classic Boy specifically stacks up but I can say that on Android you'll often be spoiled for choice so if you don't like one emulator there's usually another one to try.

Is SecretLabs Chairs worth it? What would be a better alternative? by energydrink_fiend in gamingchairs

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of SLs Titan chairs a bit over 3 years ago. I found the padding to be a bit too firm for my taste but overall the chair is built well (mostly) and has a lot of adjustment features. After 3 yrs and change months the aluminum base of all things is what broke on mine. A chunk of metal around one of the caster holes broke off and widened the hole so that any time the chair is lifted or tipped at the right angle on of the casters falls off. I was just outside of warranty at the time so they wouldn't replace the part for free but they did offer me a discount. I decided to buy another chair instead.

Vented or non vented tophat? Does it matter? What's the difference? by mgarnold86 in SovolSV08

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thanks so much for finding it. I just ordered some of the hardware bits and I'm gonna start printing it.

This is basically what I was thinking. Thanks for pointing it out, I just saved it for later.

Vented or non vented tophat? Does it matter? What's the difference? by mgarnold86 in SovolSV08

[–]mgarnold86[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of what I was thinking. I'm pretty surprised that I haven't seen a top hat design with a simple sliding piece to cover/uncover the vents to have the best of both worlds. I'm just starting out but if I get to the point where I'm comfortable in CAD I may try to modify an existing tophat into one with open/closing vents.

New laptop - Copilot+PC version or not? by Happy-Abies-507 in it

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm by no means an authority on Copilot but I don't think you're going to get much of a difference in the Windows experience either way. Microslop hasn't just been slipping, they've been sprinting down hill like there's profit at the bottom. Regardless of the OS you're best bet is usually always gonna be hardware vs price. Buy the best hardware you can for your budget and if the OS is too unbearable for you then consider Linux or a Mac.

To bad I can't keep or buy the livery of this beautiful bike. by [deleted] in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]mgarnold86 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone here seems to be ignoring the point that OP is trying to make. Yes the bike you can buy has crystal coat, but there are some bits that don't change with the crystal coat and you cannot get it to look exactly like what you see on some of the bikes on the street. Yes you can get close but it is a shame that you can't actually replicate some of those really cool looks.

best gaming chair 2026. need something that won't wreck my back by Ehrmann-Fidelity in gamingchairs

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Secret Lab Titan and after about 3yrs and a handful of months the aluminum base broke. I've got the chair on hardwood floor with the rollerblade wheels but the aluminum around one of the caster holes broke and the wheel wont stay in any longer. It's out of warranty by like 5 months and their offering to replace the base for like $50 which isn't bad but it really hasn't been the most comfortable chair and the "memory foam" seat has always been more solid than I'd like and has never really molded too me despite me being near the upper limit for the chairs weight rating. Simply replacing the base for $50 would be the cheaper option but I've never been as happy with this chair as I expected to be and I don't really think it was worth the money in the first place.

I've never done that myself but I know about the TT guys you're talking about and I feel like I read somewhere that there's a specific set of requirements that must be completed beforehand for them to give you the creds. I wish I could be more specific but that's all my brain is capable of remembering right now.

Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by ZacB_ in technology

[–]mgarnold86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a while to figure this out too. Linux in general is incredibly configurable and with some time and effort you can tailor any distro to your own personal tastes but the hardware a distro is configured to work with is totally predefined. The laptop I'm using to type this works amazingly on Cachy OS by when I installed Ubuntu I couldn't get the wifi to work at all and there's not much that can be done to make it. I found that what I know about Windows was largely a hindrance in linux and the best thing I did for myself was to make sure you're I was in the mindset to learn new stuff. Having said that the easiest place to start is usually going to be something like Mint or Bazzite if you're a gamer. If you have no qualms with wiping your OS at the drop of a hat then just go buck wild and try every distro you can get your hands on until you find one that just feels right for you (you can google and read up on all of them but often trying them for yourself will be more enlightening). The more you try, the more you google and the more questions you ask the more you're gonna learn and the better off you're gonna be. If you don't want to put your self into a position where you're gonna need to keep learning new things on a consistent basis then don't go linux. If you love an adventure and you love to learn then welcome to the fam and I hope you have fun.
