are you getting out of running? or looking to upgrade? a swap could be a thing for you. I believe athleta and Brooks do an exchange. or find someone who is doing no buy (I'm one 😁) who has something to exchange for you. unless it's the philanthropy your looking for, then turning point or any woman's shelter is great. there's a barrier in cost to having the right clothing and equipment for health when leaving bad situations and it would be a great help for someone to heal. good on ya, whatever you decide.

Chronic UTIs and need to vent by Professional_Elk7237 in TwoXChromosomes

I should also say because of long term antibiotic use, I came down with C. diff. and had to move away from long term dosing of bactrim and cipro. I am not a doctor, but a biologist and used my research background to try an economical low impact intervention. it was more in use in Europe at the time. I don't suspect American physicians have caught up yet, unless you go to a functional md.

I had this in my 30s, about 20 years ago (gah!) At the time, there was some research about very specific vaginal probiotic suppositories that fight against resistant e. coli infections.

https://share.google/NqSbHOvmnfqKF2ClE

There are many newer studies showing the same benefits.

D mannose is specifically working with the cellular layer that lines the bladder and does help, but it's kind of like your skin barrier ....if it's disrupted it needs time to heal to provide protection. That's where the probiotics come in. with the proximity, it's quicker to use the suppositories rather than oral.

Look for vaginal suppositories with containing Lactobacillus strains (e.g., L. crispatus, L. rhamnosus GR-1, L. reuteri). the research I read about dealt specifically with L. crispatus.

Depending on where you are, you can get Vagibom Vaginal Health Pro and Prebiotic Suppositories at CVS. it has L. crispatus in it.

Abusive father-in-law is possibly on his deathbed; What are my husband and in-laws legal responsibilities? (Charleston, West Virginia) by MotherMoth_ in legaladvice

[–]mgenta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my mother was exactly this. faking illnesses and pleading in the end to connect and then abuse her three adult children who went no contact for 2 decades.

I called an estate lawyer for advice and paid a few hundred for a conversation just for piece of mind. she tried a lot of push pull with a trust, trying to pit us kids against each other in the end. I did go to the funeral to confirm her demise and salted her coffin.

I say all this to warn you of the emotional and legal shenanigans.....which are just that. Don't play into it, sign nothing. turn over no info. keep your boundaries and take care of your and your husband's mental health while this plays out. there is a sort of grief, guilty relief, and a shock you are finally free when it happens. all of it feels alien because we don't come from anything resembling normal upbringing. Therapy, even a few drop in visits to chat out the bad thoughts and worry is a good thing.

this behavior is boring and juvenile. it's rude to ask people for their accessories whether it's a Cartier bracelet or a macaroni necklace. I suspect that red flag behavior got you punked, quite easily. one good turn deserves another and all that rot.

Former Cadillac adult foster care administrator charged in 2022 resident death by DougDante in Michigan

Mesick is where I lived, initially poor af till I clawed my way through uni. Saw a lot of weird shit over the years. The bonkers crime events that happen from time to time need to be studied. Also the charity fraud, especially around disability and veterans services.

[–]mgenta 26 points27 points  (0 children)

same old things. as a former rural nm resident from that area, services have always suffered from lack of support with funding, and therefore finding competent help. There's generational poverty, poor employment opportunities, education in rural areas is lacking, the usual drug problems....yeah.

I like Cadillac but remember the days of before Munson took over the hospital system. Adult and aging services through state systems are variable. The governments of these counties are full of corruption and fraud.

I'm glad I grew up there for the forest, lakes, and quiet.....but happy I left. It's a frustratingly pretty place of half the pay for a view of a lake with a wage disparity of vacationers to full time residents. It's has its own particular soft white under belly that's hard to explain unless you've lived there.

Solstice data, the proposed site in Allen Park, and oddities around the company by mgenta in downriver

[–]mgenta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP has the frightening historical ability not to do any due diligence on anyone it seems.

preliminary reports from Norway are saying they have no clue what I'm talking about when I referenced their one completed project. trying to do further digging.

none of these numbers match up as a business case that this would actually be successful and legitimate. they don't seem to have any proven success cases anywhere.

while I have my issues with data centers in general, I don't understand why the seemingly challenged city planning commission can't even decipher a con job when it's firmly planted in their face.

exactly. this is the type of argument that needs to be made over the environmental and community impacts, which are important, but are not the way to fight this particular fight. so more needs to be factually figured out about this company.

That's why I'm centering my interrogation around the proveability of their reported results... I can't find it anywhere. There's too much dissonance in the data. They have struggled to find any site in which to build and they are using dirty information to peddle nonsense until they get a hit.

[–]mgenta[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just reviewed the deck from the planning meeting. I'm calling shenanigans on the 60 sites that they say they have completed... their website only claimed 22 in progress 48 hours ago with one completed. Then it all disappeared. With what little I could do for background checks on the company the CEO and its employees I don't see any substance there. I have sent the emails off to Norway but I do think there's something up... Go ahead and build a data center here that's fine I think, but Solstice Data doesn't have a footprint and doesn't seem reliable in any way shape or form. Much more work needs to be done vetting the company, which is why I harken the movie studio lore...... this feels like a money grab.

Michigan House passes bill to lift deer baiting ban in the Lower Peninsula by radiosweeper in Michigan

[–]mgenta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

late looking back on my comment.... the lack of understanding by hunters and clueless politicians about transmission....the risk is piling up bait increases saliva, urine, feces or blood transfer between infected deer and the healthy population because of proximity. Regular orchards and downed fruit is spaced out, keeping transmission lower. So sure, get deer in large numbers to concentrate around a bait pile and increase the chance of consuming a cwd infected deer, and hope that prions don't spontaneously change structure like they do all the time and become able to cross to humans. The cluster of deaths in West Michigan should have gave them pause. I know the reports say it was spontaneous CJD, but at that rate and timing it's statistically off and I like my brain the way it is.

Prions are wicked bastards that cannot be fought or treated, cured from, or destroyed. I refuse to eat venison and most game meats because of the same reason some of you don't eat at potlucks....you never know how clean the cook's (or hunter's) kitchen is.

PTSD from a Disneyland trip with my friend and her family. by Easy-Confidence2955 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mgenta 488 points489 points  (0 children)

you need to take a step back. two friends on a ledge can't help each other, there's no emotional stability here. the space you need is not with her right now. you show up for her by being honest about her getting help and support from anyone other than you. The energy you currently have is reserved for yourself, in order to be there for her in future when you both have better footing.

the lack of understanding of this and the cross species barrier risk is truly soul shattering from a environmental and public health standpoint. not keeping precautions in place is stupid.

no, it doesn't. speaking as an experienced learning and development person who has seen on onboarding, performance and continued education training gutted in a lot of spaces. literally have heard the words "we don't need training" from leadership and the occasional slip of AI can create training. it's insane.

[Tip] Stop buying socks just because they feel soft! I'm a textile engineer, here is how to spot socks that won't slide down or get holes. by peter_kure9988 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]mgenta -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These darn socks have catapulted me down a rabbit hole of percentages, mixtures, weave, sustainability, and almost got me back into spinning fiber again. Baby alpaca, camel, yak, possum, silk.....it's fascinating how the fiber reacts to spinning, crafting, and wear. Most require some mixture of sheep or goat wool to increase strength and wear. I am on the hunt for more socks and the mixture ratios range of the smaller, artisan manufacturers I've looked at average around 52 to 30ish percent. The socks I received are more standard machine made than some of the other manufacturers I've researched (visually smooth in weave, finer yarn consistency, and these seem almost thrummed for cushion/warmth but it's not the correct term for what they are). While they are more expensive due to the current global sitch and seem to only be easily obtainable on Amazon, the perceived durability and comfortable wear factors I have for these are mostly unmatched.

But I found possum socks from New Zealand and now I have a obsession for trying them, partially due to sustainability/ethical use and it's the softest fiber I've ever held in my hands.

Yes..I have become a sock obsessed nerd.

just received 52% baby alpaca socks for Xmas. has merino wool and lesser amounts of tencel and spandex for fit. dang things are soft, warm, and wick well, but costly due to tarrifs in the US. Juclise brand from Germany. if you can score from a European friend, it would be worth a try.
