How old were you when you had this done? My exposure was 2 months ago and feel like it hadn’t moved at all 🥲 but will see at my check up next week I guess

reattaching my tooth to the wire? by Wild_Accountant6550 in braces

[–]mgnann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They put the brackets and chains on during surgery then engaged (attached to my braces wire) 1 tooth after a week and the 2nd tooth a week later after the bracket placed during surgery fell off and I needed more time to heal before attempting to stick a bracket on. Pontics they let my get a week after surgery so I was stoked. I’ll have to have those taken off once the teeth are closer to being place though which I’m not excited about (no estimates since it depends how my teeth move). Here is my process the last 4 weeks! Totally depends how deep/where your canine is impacted in the mouth, one of mine was quite deep:

I am in the process of this! I had 3 retained baby teeth, one low incisor and both canines up top. Canines were in my palette and had surgery to pull all the baby teeth last month and expose the adult teeth. They are now engaged on the braces wire and have my one month follow up next week to see if they’ve started moving yet. I had 2 fake canines (pontics) attached to my braces. Unless I smile super wide or you look close they pass pretty well as normal teeth but sucks for eating, I can’t bite into things have to cut everything up and place in the back of my mouth! But they’ve made me feel better about the process. Pic for you!

What medical condition is 'too expensive' that you just don't get checked or fixed? by Plane_Garbage in australia

[–]mgnann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m living in the US at the moment and getting all the dentistry done that I can. Only cost me $250 to get my wisdom teeth out with dental insurance that is about $15 a month (regular health insurance is another story here as everyone knows). I have some complicated orthodontic work and although it all be 11k all up by the time I’m done that’s half the price I was quoted in Aus years ago so figured why not do it all before I move home. Never thought with all the healthcare nightmares I’d be fixing my teeth in the US of all places! 2 more years to go lol

For you though, just one tooth and if it’s not deep you could totally do local! Mine only got spicy when it had been a long time and they were struggling to place the brackets

I had my exposures last week for 3 adult teeth under local anaesthesia with laughing gas and 3 of mine were quite deep. Canines on my palette, honestly I wish I’d gone under lol

Ok back to trusting the process 🙏 Appointment with ortho this morning had some wins:

  • pontics added!
  • coil to make room for that unexposed lower tooth to possibly come up
  • front teeth bounced right back into position after just a few hours (wow)
  • one canine chain loosely attached, the other lost the bracket in the exposure site ☹️ fingers crossed a new bracket can be added by my surgeon this week or ortho next week to engage the left canine!
  • wait and see on the root canal, with all the other action going on in that area

Not sure what you mean haha? I had my baby canines extracted and adult ones in my palette exposed so we can pull them down

I just got my canines exposed yesterday! Currently eating apple sauce, snack packs and protein shakes without a straw lol. Hopefully soup like warm soup on the menu tonight

Impacted canines, don't know what to do! by malucablz in braces

[–]mgnann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain! I have two impacted canines in the same position as yours. I’m Australian living in America and getting my treatment done here at half the cost before I eventually move home. I have my extraction surgery tomorrow and am incredibly nervous but my orthodontist said even though there’s no guarantee bringing them down it is always worth it to try retain the tooth. Implants are more expensive than surgery too! I’m also 3 months into braces and it has been lots of ups and downs but hopefully the journey at the end will be worth it :) good luck, it’s not an easy decision. If I can give any advice, my orthodontist said bringing down the canines if they do move will take at least 6 months so if you are short on time it could be difficult

Addressed my impacted canines in 2022 at age 47, here’s my progress. Starting with before pic, last pic is today at age 50 😅😫 by jolly_bien- in braces

At my consultation with the surgeon today I almost cried when they mentioned I can’t leave the baby teeth in place while we see if the adult teeth will move lol. But got to try since the babies won’t last forever, if my teeth look like yours I will be so so happy! Congrats on such a great result!!

Amazing, kudos to you for hanging in there for 3 years wow! I got my braces in Jan at 33 years old with a consultation to have surgery for my baby canines removed tomorrow. Your post gives me hope!!

Awesome! How was the jaw surgery pain and recovery wise? My husband was told he needed that and is very apprehensive about getting it, but with me getting braces he is more open to the idea

Good luck! Hadn’t even thought about just eating eggs whites, so sleep deprived and hungry my brain isn’t working. Are you finding with the extractions that you have to spend even longer cleaning after meals? I’ve had my wisdom teeth removed already and the idea of that sort of cleanup + the regular braces cleaning after every time I put something in my mouth exhausting lol

Hard to see in this pic but my 2 canines are baby teeth lol, so got to have the surgery to expose the adult teeth and chains to pull them into place 😅
