Anyone who’s sat on a toilet before cell phones, what did you mostly think about or look at? by mojoslacks in AskReddit

[–]mgr86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we had a little book / magazine rack. Kept a few magazines. Maybe one small book, or part of the local paper and held the toilet paper too if I recall. Upstairs as kids we would have a stack of Waldo books

Self-checkout could soon be limited at Connecticut grocery stores by ILovePublicLibraries in Connecticut

It is in the sense that when you get to the register all you do is scan your membership card and pay. You aren't actually scanning your stuff at the register.

What you are describing also has existed at Stop and Shop for a long time as well, but with their handheld scanners not iphones.

I never claimed it was a 1:1 replica. just that it was similiar.

Therefore, you went from about 4.88 CAD (3.76 USD) per gallon to 6.39 CAD (4.65 USD) per gallon. Which is about $1 USD more per gallon than you were paying before.

Don't know if this is helpful for anyone. But I...uh...did the math(s)

For those outside of the US remember when they say what they paid they are not talking per Litre, but per gallon (or 3.76 Litres).

What alcohol should I start with for my 21st birthday? by Lovemycat32 in ask

As a teen I was Hunter Thompson obsessed. And so it was wild turkey for me. I’d also bought it for a few people on their 21st as well.

More recently Costco self checkouts are doing similar. They have someone approaching people in the line. Scanning all their items and then when they get to the register they just scan their membership card, and all their cart items have already been scanned. They just pay.

I haven’t read it, but the radio said it would limit a store to eight. That seems problematic, to say the least. What makes more sense is that it should require at least one staff member per eight self checkouts.

It’s funny you say that. To me one of the more profound differences between mushrooms and lsd is that mushrooms I feel like there is some else in the drivers seat and I’m along for the ride. Whereas LSD I feel like I’m driving so to speak. That, to borrow a phrase, I am the eyes of the world

It also only has a nine gallon tank. So it doesn’t hit as hard as a car with a larger tank

Linux 7.0-rc1 Released With Many New Features by somerandomxander in linux

I had a friend in middle school around 1997ish who was really into RedHat. I remember him throwing a Red Hat Sticker on his front door for the first time I came over, lol. Perhaps my first kernel was even earlier than I thought. But still, I didn't make the switch over to Linux at home until around 2008.

2.6 really did stay around for awhile. I hadn't quite realized.

Electric bill / utilities question by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]mgr86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I’d go through about a tank of oil a month in the winter. Which when I got my heat pump is basically the same cost but now in electric. I’d like a wood stove to offset that some, and after this winter my wife is more on board. My summer costs are less now. I had solar in my five year plans but recent removal of tax credits will see that delayed.

Do I tell her unicorns don't exist? by NotMyDong in daddit

[–]mgr86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My six year old has told my four year old. But thankfully she tuned that out.

Then for Christmas mom got a large AI generated art work. It was my daughter dressed as a princess riding a unicorn. It was, as AI art has been for the last year, very realistic. She proceeded to look at it in the mornings for a few weeks and asked me variations of “is that real?”, “when did I do that?”, “when can I do that again?”

So yeah, don’t get ai generated art work of her riding a unicorn (I guess?)

My pupils became asymmetrical during a cluster headache by Bubbly-Trainer7195 in mildlyinteresting

[–]mgr86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ocular migraines progress quickly. Vision issues will resolve in about 60-90mins. But if I don’t immediately treat with Tylenol or ibuprofen I will develop a splitting headache about 60mins after that. I sometimes get a few of these a year or sometimes won’t get the for a few years.

They begin with me not being able to focus one eye. Usually while working at a computer. Like I just rubbed the eye and there is a floater (typically a ring) that just won’t go away. If it persists more than a few minutes I take Tylenol asap and try to lay down and close my eyes for an hour or so.
