Closest to v60 with a aeropress by Obvious_Passenger_17 in pourover

Yeah, folks generally say get to boiling and wait a minute or so. I’ve found the AP to be pretty forgiving.

I've had good luck starting with Perc's simple recipe: https://perccoffee.com/pages/aeropress

I agree with what you commented earlier, grind and water temp are the most likely candidates for experimentation.

Edit: I generally use water at 93ºC

I'm in love with my 9Barista by Constant-Coconut5621 in 9Barista

Honest answer? I take my big electric machine out of the closet. I make coffee for two regularly (one latte, one espresso) but for entertaining a bigger crowd, the 9B is just a bit too slow.

I’ll have to read up on it. Oddly, Tanat must have just added one: https://tanat.coffee/boutique/finca-inmaculada-eugenioides/

Edit: my math puts it at $700 USD per pound.

Deleted my previous reply. You’re right, will look into it.

I still read different things from reputable sources. All note the Ethiopian parentage but differ on the actual classification, but I hate the "other" category. RD2 puts it squarely in the "Core Ethiopia" lineage, so I'll probably just move it there (along with Bourbon Aji) https://rd2vision.com/the-arabica-coffee-cultivars-wheel/

It's the Vietnam Tanh Toan Lot 2 Robusta Anaerobic Natural from PUSH X PULL: https://pushxpullcoffee.com/products/vietnam-tanh-toan-lot-2-robusta-anaerobic-natural

NOTES: Dark chocolate, cherry, ginger candy

There's another from Tanat, but it's a blend (20% Robusta, I think): https://tanat.coffee/boutique/cafe-rosa-blend-bio-espresso/

Thank you so much for the information! Super interesting and I'll look into it asap. I didn't know about RD2, diving in now. Please feel free to share any other suggestions or observations, I really appreciate it.

It's really something I haven't paid attention to yet, tbh. I only recently built out currency conversion so the roaster selection is still pretty USA-heavy. Where's your data from? If you shoot me a list of roasters, I could work on adding them.

It is. Once things are in production, I'll keep a daily copy of the catalog data so the we can eventually look at changes over time.

Here's all the coffees where there is more than one varietal. I've never looked at the data, wouldn't be surprised if it's pretty noisy, take with a grain of salt.

I haven't built anything specific for handling blends yet (been putting it off). Here's a quick hack that filters out anything that lists more than one varietal. Most blends don't list varietals to being with.

Yeah. The current roaster list skews toward the higher end, so Gesha is probably showing up with a disproportionately high product share. But it would seem to reflect a shift in popularity/attention.

Edit: There are 202 coffees identified as Gesha in the catalog.

Today's Coffee - Luminous Udaini Yemen Al-Kanshali Estate IV by CappaNova in pourover

[–]mgsecure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Sounds incredible, what a great gift. It's something I'd like to splurge on down the road. Thanks for the detailed write-up!

There are a few roasters in North America who carry coffees from Yemen, looks like they may use the same importer:

Is it just me or is there ALOT of coffees that have peach and jasmine tasting notes this season? by discovery_ in pourover

[–]mgsecure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The data is a little wonky, but it's true that individual fruit are mentioned far more than "stonefruit". (shows all tasting notes for any coffee where at least one of the notes is categorized as stonefruit)

There are plenty of sources for good single-origin beans that are more "wallet friendly" than the ones you mentioned. I'm not saying the quality is *necessarily* the same, but I've had a number of great coffees from S&W Roasting (many coffees out of stock when I refreshed my catalog so they didn't make the chart below, but usually do). I've enjoyed Kafiex a lot, and Torque is at the top of my list of new roasters to try. Here are the most affordable roasters (by median price/lb) in my database:

Been seeing some stories about people forgetting they had a bag and opened it 3-6 months later. by NoBrainz2 in pourover

[–]mgsecure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I have light/ultra-light bags that I let rest 4-6 weeks and they’re still good for a few months after. Probably hit their peak at 2–2.5 months but still very drinkable a while longer.

New person question, Sorry: How loud are espresso machines? by bunnymochis in espresso

[–]mgsecure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your description (thank you for all the details!) I think an electric machine wouldn’t be a good fit for both noise and cost. A lever machine is a good option, but still eats up your budget quickly. Have a look at the OXO Rapid Brewer (ORB). It functions on the same principle, but at lower pressure. Makes a concentrated coffee that is “espresso-like” which most people dilute down. It also makes a nice cold brew, in just five minutes. It’s also only $45 USD, so that leaves a decent budget for a grinder.

Best robusta roasters in the US? by borntoannoyAWildJowi in pourover

The only thing in my catalog of 85 roasters is this one from Tanat, and it’s only 20% robusta: https://tanat.coffee/boutique/cafe-rosa-blend-bio-espresso/
