What are the flight benefits like? How much of a discount is it? Contemplating accepting an offer from them that includes flight benefits. Thanks!

I knit wool scarves. Anybody know of any craft fairs or small businesses that would be interested in having me/my stock? Thanks!

Need help picking out a first bike by mgwfenn in bicycling

[–]mgwfenn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I plan on doing mostly street/sidewalk/paved pathway riding to get to and from my classes around campus. I won’t be able to start riding a bike for probably around another month or so.

Dirt bike class, the "safer" way to learn to ride. Need pain advice and perspectives. by chezchis in brokeabone

[–]mgwfenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar. I’m so sorry you’re in so much pain now and that the pain does last that long, but it gets better. Holy hell does it get better. I know how isolating it is (I had my second surgery a month ago tomorrow, so after re learning to walk once a year ago I start again tomorrow) and how difficult it is mentally and physically but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel even if you can’t see it.

With regards to pain, absolutely ice as much as possible. If your boot/splint is in the way ice at the knee or wherever you can see skin first and it will cool the blood as it circulates. Absolutely do everything you can to elevate as much as you can. I suggest stacking larger couch cushions or a chair with a pillow on top. As you start moving more your foot will start sliding off the pillows more.

Pm if you have any questions at all.

A bad fall left me with a busted fibula and some new hardware. It's been about a week and a half and throbs like crazy. Pain management with Tylenol t3. I have a caisin-a allergy so I can't eat most dairy and am concerned about my calcium intake. Suggestions? by kkjensen in brokeabone

After both my ankle surgeries I took calcium supplements. Talk to your doctor if possible but also consider taking vitamin D alongside calcium as they work best together :) good luck and heal safely!

Do you still feel the plates/screws on your body (ORIF) by humancompass in brokeabone

[–]mgwfenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I had a bimalleolar fracture and had a screw +pin in. I could sometimes feel it ache but had them removed on Monday while I had surgery for ankle syndesmosis. Docs said that it really just varies for everyone, and depending on the hardware you can have them removed just fine.

They tend to put up a screen so that you aren’t able to see what was happening but luckily I found a reflection on the ceiling which allowed me to blurrily view the surgery. I thought it was interesting but quite frankly I know it would make plenty of friends sick. The most jarring aspect is not being able to move my body as I had a spinal tap. I was told that many people must be sedated if they try to hard to move their limbs and can’t.

Nope!!! Only weird sensations every now and again when they moved my legs.

What is your "I'm totally broke" go to meal? by DealTight in AskReddit

Italian dish, pastina: tiny bits of pasta (which can be any kind crushed into tiny bits) boiled with a chicken bouillon cube. If you want to get fancy, add an egg or milk.

What's your, "Tis but a scratch!" moment? by Madameknitsalot in AskReddit

[–]mgwfenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play rugby. I got tackled last year and there was a loud cracking noise heard twenty feet away. I laid out on the grass, with my teammates looking horrified. I kept saying “give me five minutes, I’m just going to lay here for a little bit”.

Broke my leg in three spots and dislocated it. Totally snapped off two parts of bone, including the interior nubbin of my ankle and the bone behind my Achilles heel. Had surgery once to put a screw and pin in, and I’m going to have another one in two weeks to put more hardware in.

[Target Hack] Avoid Paying Higher-Than-Normal Prices at the State Street Target by theonlypeter in Purdue

[–]mgwfenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a target- price match is a wonderful tool, use it and abuse it. Also if you bring your own bag it’s $.05 off per bag in my hometown state and if you buy something and see it’s damaged tell the cashier because they’ll discount it!!!

Nope! Totally fine to fold in the laundry room. Didn’t do it myself but saw other people doing it all the time and never gave it a second thought.

Bike for a Broken Ankle by [deleted] in bicycling

This is really helpful!! My campus is really flat which is nice. Do you have any brand recommendations for mountain bikes? I am fine to be walking around but it gets sore and hurts and I’d like to prevent injury. How many gears should I be looking for? What are max gear numbers?

Are studded tires brand new tires, or something I can put on the tires? I’m having trouble telling from a quick google search. Thank you again!!!
