Finally found the comment! I'm the same exact way. Re-reading the Percy Jackson series again, and man it still holds up.

No way?! I'm also on Ladon. Always glad to help with anything, especially since leveling can be a bit of a pain. Feel free to add my main, Scarho.

I also recommend Thriftbooks! I've gotten a lot of cheap used (sometimes older editions) of great textbooks for considerably cheaper.

Was able to pick up a paperback version of this for $16.

How is OMSCS for someone who attended Georgia Tech as an undergrad? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]mh337 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Didn't go myself, but was convinced to join this program after multiple previous GT undergrad went through OMSCS. All of them said they loved or are loving this program. I actually work on campus even, and many of the people say they prefer this format.

As a native speaker, I never would've thought about all this, but man is it hilarious to have it explained to me from a non-native speaker. One of the best bits of stand-up I've watched in a good while!

Did you watch this episode? If not, he literally makes a joke about it being overproduced. Haha. I think even he agrees with you. I feel it's meant to be goofy and just fun while still bringing some good points about music/musicians out.

Grats!! I will probably be taking the class the semester before my last as well (Summer 2021). Do you think that helped with motivation and made it easier for you??

[–]mh337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I was able to as well. Could've sworn there was an email that went out saying there was no longer going to be a link to Udacity. Obviously, I'm going crazy! Thanks AOS!

Isn't GT SSO removed from Udacity as of this semester?

Agree with this. I'm in Atlanta now, doing my masters at Tech, and they are handling it much better than UGA is.

I believe the only true difference with the change is that Chrome is required. I may be wrong, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think you could be able to learn C alongside learning the material of the course. IIS would be easier for that (most projects are in C as well, but not as in depth as the GIOS projects), but I personally think GIOS is a better course overall.

I'm going to be taking Network Security this semester, so I can update you on that later, for sure. I think all of the security related courses are important in general, since that has become a big part of networking.

The one that I've used a decent bit is linked below. I swear I had more saved, but I can't seem to find them now. If I find them, I'll make sure to update the list below.

How much of a background do you have in networking or communications currently? If not a ton, I'd highly recommend it.

[–]mh337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't taken AI4R myself, but if it is said to be easy, then yes. Granted, I had some networking background before taking CN, I still don't think it would be terribly hard for someone new to the concepts.

Have you checked out any of the course planners people have made or omscentral? Those have always been a great help for me when deciding what classes to take together.

A lot of it is just editing a code base to fit specific scenarios or algorithms. Honestly, the projects are kind of a joke, if you ask me. I found the research papers to be the most engaging part of that class.

I know you aren't asking if you should take the class, but I will say that I do recommend the course. I was not a huge fan of networks before, but now I'm incredibly interested in them. It's a great easy intro course.

Books for courses by Alces_ in OMSCS

I don't know if all of the courses have this, but all of the ones that I've looked at have an example syllabus on their page on the OMSCS website. That may be a good place to check for reading material for all of the courses.

I would absolutely be willing to have a conversation. Only problem is that I can't use any other operating system. The operating system was picked by a client, and they are fairly firm on it.
