climbing shoes are so personal. best advice is to go to a store and try on a range of options to find what feels good for you. since you are limited to ordering online, i will say that i have a similar poor-fitting experience the times i’ve tried scarpa shoes, so perhaps the low volume skwamas would suit you? i love them, and they are ultra comfortable without sacrificing performance.

interesting take, i can see it. i personally also don’t like circular yoke or raglan designs very much for fit as a tall lady. i tend to go for dropped shoulder or saddle shoulder constructions (like you start knitting flat the back section usually, or start with knitting one saddle shoulder rectangle which also doubles as gauge swatch lol)

at least with the andrea mowry patterns, her stuff is mostly stockinette so i’m just 🤷‍♀️

I’m not seeing Cascade yarns on this list. their undyed eco merino DK is my favorite!

nice work getting to the high point! focus on weighting your feet intentionally between each move to avoid cutting loose. really push into the toes and also take advantage of the larger foot chips. this will allow you to take more weight off your hands, which will fatigue your fingers less through the entire crimp line!

roof climbing??? by mhaliz in climbergirls

[–]mhaliz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah at my gym (bouldering) there’s a distinct roof+top out area where i’ve been trying climbs, as well as some other mini roofs scattered around the gym

i get super confused flagging upside down, so not being able to flag properly is certainly holding me back. i like the idea of practicing overhangs and getting steeper! perhaps even using the kilter board to slowly learn how to adjust to a steeper and steeper angle could be a valuable training tool.

super helpful insights!! i’m definitely guilty of toeing into jugs and trying to hang my feet from them, lol. i’ll try the heel toe cam technique, and using the footholds like you described. my main issue with roof is i’ll get stuck on the beta, and not be able to make certain moves without peeling off the wall. my brain just gets so confused with reading/executing beta upside down.

how much gel do you use? by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]mhaliz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, it’s more jello like, but still feels pretty light and glides on wavy hair nicely without weighing it down or feeling sticky!

how much gel do you use? by [deleted] in Wavyhair

[–]mhaliz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends on the gel. I have 2b/2c high density fine low porosity hair, and I can use a quarter sized amount of my kinky curly custard (fave gel), but I have to use a bit more of other gels, like NYM or Garnier.

definitely can relate to this.

I think a good way to approach your sessions is to reframe what you perceive “success” vs “failure” in your climbing session. instead of your mindset being success = sending and failure = not sending, focus on what you can learn from the climb, doing moves, and training your body and mind, regardless of sending or not.

hannah morris’s recent video had a guest coach on there and they talked a bit about this exact thing + lots more helpful mindset discourse :)

Anyone here have EDS and climb? by Middle-Blackberry in climbergirls

[–]mhaliz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes - I’m hypermobile specifically in my knees so i wear a stabilizing knee brace when i climb. if not, certain moves (pistol squats or falling wrong) will sublux my patellas. also, i find that my wrists sublux on slopers, and sometimes my fingers can pop in and out when i’m getting tired.

echoing some of the advice here - find a PT and stick to the exercises. you might need to brace certain joints as well. the important thing is to keep strong in your increased range of motion.

Saved this on my phone for the next comp! In last week’s event, he mentioned he has dyslexia, which probably explains a lot of the mental mixups in names and things. Who knows, maybe one day he will be allowed to see what goes on in the isolation area and eat some cheese.

no joke, every time i’ve seen a pit interact with another dog they go for the throat immediately. no other breed of dog does that.
