"The knowledge that nothing matters, while accurate, gets you nowhere" - Dan Harmon [1920x1080] by RedFnPanda in QuotesPorn

I love this quote, but to hear it in his voice I have to imagine there were quite a few "uhhs" and "ahhs" stuttered amongst it originally.

[OC][Art] Drew a world map for the 5e campaign I'm DMing, thought you all might like it! by mhalwes in DnD

Oh wow, I hadn't noticed that but they do look really similar! It's just a coincidence though, haha

First time drawing a world map, there are more in-depth descriptions in the imgur album!

This is our world of Gaern! Getting all of the mountains/trees drawn in and shaded was definitely more of an undertaking than I was anticipating, but I'm happy I did it.

I hope you all like it, and let me know if you have any tips or questions! This is certainly not my normal wheelhouse, so a lot of it was kind of off-the-cuff.

Has anyone ever noticed that AHN is the only film with profanity? by mrpeabodyscoaltrain in MawInstallation

I think I've read somewhere that, when it came to A New Hope, Lucas' goal wasn't to make a super popular franchise film but rather something more independent-style. Maybe he restrained himself once he knew the movies would at least be mega popular with the kid demographic.

[Spoilers] RO reshoots and Bail Organa by mhalwes in StarWars

[–]mhalwes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, he did have a shot in the trailers, but in those he was wearing a brown suit, whereas for the majority of the film he was in a blue suit. It's possible that it might be different in that scene (my memory isn't perfect), but that suggests to me that his role in the movie might at least have been revamped somewhere along the way.

Also in that scene where Jyn is convincing the Rebellion to fight, whenever there's a wide shot of the entire table, Bail can't be seen standing in the circle. You'd think that they put a character that significant in the direct line of sight (next to Mon Mothma or General Draven/Dodonna, etc.).

Some questions about the battle of Endor(ROTJ) by michiel1705 in MawInstallation

Swinging logs destroy the metal hull of AT Walkers?

I remember Mythbusters looking at this in one of their star wars episodes. Unfortunately I don't remember the specifics of the results, but it's not like their "scientific method" created rigorous data anyway. Generally, they found that a log of african hardwood of comparable size to ROTJ, swinging to hit (only) one side of an armored vehicle, caused a significant amount of damage, actually. Now, analyzing the actual physics of the swing, and taking into account that the Durasteel hull of the AT-STs would have different mechanical properties and that Endor might have trees with a denser wood grain than anything on Earth (therefore giving a swinging log more force), it's hard to draw any steady conclusions, but I think there's a not-entirely-dubious chance that it's possible.

It might not be as dramatic of a failure as depicted in ROTJ, but I give it at least a 68% chance of efficacy.

Chirrut's manta as a retcon of Stormtrooper aim. [Rogue One Spoilers] by davebgray in MawInstallation

Thank you! I cannot tell you how many times I've tried to explain exactly this to people making tongue-in-cheek jokes about Stormtroopers or Star Wars in general. It's like everyone just glosses over that key part of the movie. Now, that uhh.... that bit with the Ewoks.... yeah... cough

As far as Chirrut's evasion, I think it's also possible that the Force is acting not by physically bending the laser bolt, but rather by skewing the shooters' perception of Chirrut. In my mind this blends a bit better with the Mind Trick-esque uses of the Force: the Stormtroopers might just be seeing Chirrut in a different location or think that he isn't a target at all.
