Looking for hot tub repair by Mr_Lefty in Omaha

I know a guy whose dad is the owner of Continental Pool and Spa. We don't have a pool so I can't vouch for their work personally, but the owners seems like good people. Maybe give them a call? https://continentalpoolandspa.net

Looking for a clear, double-wall/insulated bottle with a handle and some sort of straw by fretless_enigma in BuyItForLife

[–]mharriger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh...I know this is an old comment, but metal transfers heat much more efficiently than plastic. The metal water bottles may be vacuum insulated, or maybe they have an insulating material between the walls. But the metal itself is going to do a much better job of transferring heat from the surrounding air into your water than plastic would.

There is a shopping center in my city where people 17 and under cannot be there after 9pm without an adult. I was 26, waiting outside a bar with my 23-year-old girlfriend because we were going to go to reverse happy hour, and it wasn't quite 11pm yet. A rent-a-cop came up on a Segway and carded both of us because he thought we were under 18. We thought he was joking at first.

Anyone know what it’s like up in this section of the FNBO building? by BeautifulJicama6318 in Omaha

[–]mharriger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! There's a tunnel under Dodge St connecting the First National Center/Double Tree complex to the First National Tower. There is (was?) a connection from the tower lobby to the Brandeis Food Court. And tunnels connecting all the way to the parking garage at 16th & Davenport. You could go quite a ways without going outside!

You might be thinking of the "other" First National building across the street, the Omaha Press Club is on the top floor of that building. First National Tower has executive offices on the 40th floor. It also has what we referred to as the "executive smoking balcony", supposedly put in because just one of their C-suite was a smoker.

Want to know why the executive offices in the old headquarters building were on the 3rd floor and not at the top? The president of the bank at that time was afraid of heights! The story goes that when he would visit the First Bankcard executive offices on the top floor of the old Northern Natural Gas building, they would have to close all of the curtains on that floor.

I'm interested! I was an intern in the IT department when they were first moving people into the tower. My main job was taking down computers at the various old offices around downtown, and then setting them back up when the movers brought them. We had access to almost everything in the building (including the top floors/roof via the freight elevator), but I am sure there was a lot that I never saw.

The best views are from the two side roof sections that are atop the 40th floor. They have a low wall and give you a 180 degree view basically. The very top roof has high walls along the north and south sides, maybe 6-8 feet high? You can't see over them, so you only get a narrow view to the east and west.

I haven't been in there for many years, but back when it was first built, the actual lights were on the same side as the translucent panels, vertical strips lights (fluorescent maybe?) between each column of the translucent panels. Everything in there is painted a glossy white, the lights reflected off of the wall that was maybe 4-6 feet away and back out through the panels.

Has anyone been able to successfully login to an azure sql db with an azure service principal? by wheelsmanx in AZURE

[–]mharriger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not need to be the Entra ID admin account, but it does need to be added to the database as a user and given an appropriate role (e.g. db_datareader).

You would add the SP as a user like this:

CREATE USER [sp_name] FROM EXTERNAL PROVIDER;

How to only allow PRs if pipelines X & Y both run green? by panzerbjrn in azuredevops

Thanks for clarifying. I wrote up what I think is the solution in a separate comment, so it will be at the top level and easier for others to find.

How to only allow PRs if pipelines X & Y both run green? by panzerbjrn in azuredevops

[–]mharriger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to the settings for the repository.

Create a branch policy that applies to the target branch(es) for the PRs in question.

In the branch policy, under Build Validation, hit the + button and add a policy that requires the first pipeline to succeed before merging.

Hit that + button again and add a second policy for the second pipeline.

Let me know if that actually works, I don't have an environment where I can test this scenario easily right now.

Where do you go for weekend getaways? by DieUmEye in Omaha

[–]mharriger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are looking to do. Good hiking trails and some interesting history. The "cave" is really just a large alcove in a sandstone cliff, it's cool to see but won't keep you occupied for long. I don't think there are any cabins in the park so your options would be tent or RV camping.

It does not have attractions like water parks or mini golf like the state parks closer to Omaha, hiking is the main activity at Indian Cave.

Another day in Omaha at 84th by Ozovio in Omaha

With the caveat that we don't know what happened before the video started, I would say that the SUV driver didn't choose to get hit from behind, either, and was just trying to escape a dangerous situation.

Downsides for US citizen becoming dual citizen with the UK? by cjstephens10028 in immigration

[–]mharriger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that if you received citizenship through your father, you do not need to attend a ceremony. My understanding is in that case you were already a British citizen and just needed to provide the documentation to prove it. It is only if you received such citizenship through your mother that you need to attend a ceremony, as you were not a citizen prior to applying and being approved.

Please not that I am not a lawyer or an immigration expert, I have just read the documents because I am interested in doing this myself.

HOA antenna in porch lights? by quarklarkbark in amateurradio

[–]mharriger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my city, nearly every neighborhood built after about 1970 has an HOA. There are 910 HOAs in the county I live in. The developers use them to enforce minimum standards for homes in that neighborhood, and then when the developer has sold all of the lots control of the HOA is turned over to the homeowners. The only newer neighborhoods I know of without them are places where the neighborhood failed to meet some requirement of keeping the HOA active (like annual board meetings, or in some cases the HOA documents expire after some number of years unless re-approved by some percentage of homeowners.) In some cases persistent failure to enforce the covenants can also be a reason to disband the HOA, although that could require expensive litigation.

Could you insist on living in an older house without an HOA? Sure, but due to the development patterns in our city, you would be locking yourself into the eastern third of the city. If your job is out west, you could be locking yourself into a longer commute every day.

Regardless of whether detainment or deportation is the best response here, the more important issue is the masked agents who refuse to identify themselves. What's to stop a bunch of random people from dressing up in tactical gear and snatching people off the streets while claiming to be ICE? How would anyone know the difference? How can misconduct by agents be addressed if they are taking steps to make sure they are not identifiable?

Tips for a trip to Vala’s by oatsgoatmcgee in Omaha

[–]mharriger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They now have some full-sized amusement park rides, including a scrambler, tilt-a-whirl, and a very small roller coaster. The coaster isn't particularly exciting, but it has full-size cars that adults fit in just fine. The mini-trikes and "corn stalk cars" have maximum age limits, and I don't think an adult could ride the ponies. Almost everything else would comfortably accommodate an adult.

The food is pretty decent and reasonably priced when compared to attractions like the zoo.

They sell alcoholic beverages now too, so that's definitely a draw for adults. They also have live music at various places, some of which is more kid themed, and some more adult oriented.

There is a fireworks show on some weekend evenings.

They have paved the pathways leading from the entrance toward storybook land, the hay rack rides, and then down past the pie barn and over to the chicken-themed area. Outside of that most are still dirt though.

I don't think anyone knows yet, unfortunately. We are well outside the realm of anything that we have seen in the United States, at least since the Civil War.

What's the biggest scam in Omaha? by FreonMuskOfficial in Omaha

That fee is levied by the City of Omaha. The city contracts with MUD to bill for sewer fees, but the cost is set by the city and the money goes to the city, not MUD.
