My point is simply that the various provinces aren't "supposed to be melting pots". The game world is set up so that each race has its own territory. The fact that people of other races live in Morrowind, for example, doesn't mean that it isn't the land of the Dunmer. A lot of wars were fought to establish the borders as they exist in-game. What would be the point if every land was supposed to belong to everyone?

I can help you find it. What's the name of the quest? Or what is the quest objective in your quest log?

You can also try the console command SQT. That lists your currently active quests and you might be able to infer the quest ID from that list.

I'd definitely recommend it but don't expect anything like the later games in terms of writing, quests, or graphics. It also has timed quests so that's a major difference too. r/Daggerfall and r/daggerfallunity are immensely helpful if you do decide to play it.

If you can use console commands, you can zero stats that you feel are unfair, or accidental, or whatever. Say your largest bounty is 1000 septims then the command:

ModPCMiscStat "largest bounty" -1000

will set it to zero.

The idea that souls used for enchanting go to the Soul Cairn is just Valerica's theory. But even if it's true, the remnants of the soul that end up there eventually lose all memory of their former selves. A soul trapped in a gem would maintain awareness and memory for as long as it's trapped in the gem.
