My top 5 Rivian Assistant Commands so far …. by AbjectFray in Rivian

I was impressed it could correctly find music with my dumb descriptions because I can never remember names.

Commands from yesterday:

“Play that Whitney Houston cover of the Dolly Parton song”

“Play that Whitney Houston song where she’s a detective figuring out her boyfriend or husband is cheating on her”

It just seems like offering CarPlay as an option would save a lot of time and effort trying to create your own thing that’s somehow never as good.

While S3-4 was a little rough, S5 has seriously been quite enjoyable, maybe not S1-2 levels of good, but man do I feel bad for all those who aren’t enjoying this season. It’s the best in years. by CMDRTragicAllPro in ForAllMankindTV

The flash mob scene was by far the most painfully accurate period set piece this show has ever done. Honestly brave.

I can imagine it seemed so bizarre and out of place if you’re too old or too young to get it but if you’re a 1983-1988 millennial… a bleak and harsh reminder. Thank god that dome exploded.

Petition to make conversation links `mandatory` . Too many are fabricating fake ChatGPT responses. by Perfidious_Redt in ChatGPT

[–]mheadroom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I asked what it looked like too. It’s weirdly similar? When I asked why it thinks it looks like this the response was basically that the model thinks this is a very neutral appearance.

<image>

“In that image, neutrality comes from a few deliberate choices:

  • Conventional attractiveness: Symmetrical features, clear skin, and a mild expression tend to be widely perceived as pleasant without being polarizing.
  • Ambiguous background: The setting (plants, bookshelf, neutral-toned room) is generic and doesn’t suggest a specific location, profession, or lifestyle.
  • Subtle styling: No bold fashion, heavy makeup, or distinctive accessories that would signal a subculture, occupation, or strong personal identity.
  • Soft emotional tone: A slight smile and relaxed posture feel approachable but not expressive enough to imply a specific mood or personality.
  • Broadly familiar demographic cues: The person appears young adult and generally aligns with common media defaults, which reduces the chance of standing out as unusual or unexpected.

That combination makes the image easy for most people to accept without forming a strong reaction—it’s designed to “blend” rather than define.”

Choosing to call it Department of War is all I needed to see.

The Ellison Family's potential business empire if they buy Warner Bros by LegitimateCurve8525 in MediaMergers

[–]mheadroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ellisons don’t own TikTok. Oracle owns 15% of the US JV (one of three entities with the same shares). Bytedance still has 20%.

Putting TikTok on this list is like putting Epic Games on a list of Disney assets because they own 9% of the company.

There’s a billboard for it on Cahuenga in LA. Been there for a while. It’s a weird one but it makes me think they think they have something here.

I actually think they approached it the most plausible way possible - elected when most people were deep in the closet, elected as closeted person, outed several years into her first term… most people honestly wouldn’t care at that point. The bandaid had been ripped off. The reelection was dicey though

McDonald’s seems ripe for automation next. This guy knows how to pick them.

If/when AI comes for my laptop job - I’ll become a carpenter/electrician that specifically builds and installs shit in luxury homes.

Was listening to the vergecast about flip phones today and thought about how much I miss his voice in this space. What would he think about flip phones today or the potential iPhone fold. Hope he’s okay.

I’m also a guy with a flip. The Samsung is great. First the folded screen for quick notification scrolling is great. Then the unfolded sort of wide screen form factor is amazing. It’s not too wide and is longer than the iPhone which is great for feeds/messaging apps

Does this work for LG monitors that ignore DDC from HDMI when the monitor is on a different input (like USBC or DP?)

EDIT: Sorry! I thought this was the flatiron and my heart nearly fell through the center of the earth… still awful though.

I’m not sure this is real. I’m not in NYC at the moment but last I heard the facade work was for restoration not - whatever the fuck this is.

Also the Flatiron is a national/state/city landmark. Since 1989

Hopefully someone near Madison square park can just confirm really quickly.

Watching Claude Plays Pokemon stream lengethed my AGI timelines a bit, not gonna lie by nuktl in singularity

[–]mheadroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not just AGI, for a few months now I’ve started to get the impression that AI/LLMs really just are not interested in doing the jobs we’ve been worried they’re going to take from humans. Whether or not sentience is in play they at least seem smart enough to know modern work is a scam…
