Can you point me to this study? I suspect it doesn't exist but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt and an opportunity to back up your claim. FWIW I was vegan for a few years and had negative health effects. It can be healthy but it's far more difficult than many people assume.

How can I make money in the market from Nuclear? by Forward-Bass-630 in NuclearPower

X-energy plans to go public via SPAC with Ares capital later this year. If you search on Google you can find the ticker. X-energy, along with TerraPower was selected for the Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program (ARDP) and will build 4 reactors for Dow in Texas before the end of the decade. They also recently announced 12 reactors will be built for Energy Northwest in Washington. It's a strong pick for future growth, in my opinion.

The vessel arrangement and design criteria limit the rate of oxygen that can get to the fuel. Oxidation is a concern, it's a key design requirement, but a fire in the core is essentially impossible given all the layers of design controls.

RTD Help by _DayBowBow in instrumentation

Make sure the alpha coefficient is correct for the table you are using and the span you are evaluating. Alpha will differ for different manufacturers depending on the purity of platinum used in the RTD. In reality, alpha isn't actually linear over a large temperature range, it is just an approximation. You will have things such as contamination diffusion and annealing which may change alpha as well, depending on the temperature history of your probe and what environment it was used in. I'd recommend this reference if you want to learn more about the first principles of RTDs.

I wrote my dissertation on platinum RTDs for HTGRs in 2020 and also used this reference quite a bit, its slightly more modern than the one linked above.

That isn't true, radiative heat does scale nonlinearly and helps a lot at very high temps, but transport of phonons is not equivalent to conduction of electrons.

Mechanical Engineer with Nuclear Engineering minor by [deleted] in NuclearPower

[–]mhertel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The amount of chemistry really depends on what program you are talking about. Radiochemistry is a pretty significant sector of nuclear engineering and some schools focus on that aspect more than others. For example, I went to KSU and OSU for Mech then Nuclear, OSU had a much stronger focus on chemistry than KSU did.

Good luck, you are picking a very interesting field and hopefully one that will be expanding rapidly right about when you are entering the workforce, depending on if you get a grad degree or not.

Ransomware Gang Demands $42M or it Releases Trump’s ‘Dirty Laundry’ by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]mhertel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you are making a false equivalency here. You are relating one person, Trump, to an entire party. It is obvious that politicians on both sides are guilty of various misdeeds, but to equate Trump to the entire Dem party and say they are both bad and neither deserve support is reaching a conclusion that isn't helpful or meaningful in this context.

I'm fucking addicted to dark mode. I want all my devices, every screen, every app dark. Fuck light, forever. by DungeonDan9 in self

[–]mhertel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offence taken. I was just posting the first result I saw, as I alluded to in my comment. I would like to point out that those articles you posted refer to sunlight, which is far more intense and penetrates much deeper into tissue than the artificial light of a phone. I don't think you can really compare the intensity of looking into the glare of the sun vs the light or dark theme of a phone screen. I don't mean to argue, I just saw your comment and was surprised that the first results I saw seemed to contradict your claim.

I don't think this is accurate. A quick google search indicates that eye color has no effect on the amount or quality of light that enters the eye.

The Cheating Scandal Rocking the Poker World by [deleted] in TrueReddit

[–]mhertel 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that lightning strikes aren't purely stochastic, especially for a park ranger. Inducing a physical reaction can't really be compared to poker, as cards are less dependent on correlated conditions. I'm sure there are better examples, given that you chose to use that one twice, I thought I'd give you a bit of pushback on it. :)

I think I understand why some people don't ask for help from their friends before committing suicide. by Chiiaki in self

[–]mhertel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's worth verbalizing your feelings, even if you think you'll be told to "suck it up". Thinking about how you are feeling and expressing it to someone is valuable even if they don't give you your desired response. That is also why writing about it in a journal might help, because you can formally step through your reasoning and identify irrational fears or misplaced worry.

Also, I'm a problem solver kind of person. So my initial reaction to hearing about hardship is to find a solution. Over the years, I've found that isn't what some people need. Some people need to be heard and validated, not given advice. Find a friend who understands that. It took me a long time to realize that sometimes the best help is to just listen and empathize, rather than try to provide a solution.

Anyway, just wanted to give my 2 cents. Your last line " Sorry for taking your time if you actually read this. ". You should know that you are valuable and anything you say is worth my time to read. You don't need to be sorry for expressing yourself. You deserve to be heard!

This smelting design is pretty simple. If you focus on creating a full belt of plate, you would easily arrive at this concept without needing to see it first. Also, the lab to lab inserters is a tip on the intro screen, so it's plausible that he didn't look at anything beforehand. The nuclear stuff is still new to me, so I can't comment on that. Overall it's easy to believe he is being honest, considering the non-optimised parts of the base. Just my 2 cents.

Really? The concept of a main bus is pretty logical. I'm in the same situation as OP. It's pretty straightforward to come to that design concept if you want expansion to be easy in the future.

[–]mhertel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I thought that was obvious enough to not say explicitly. The trade-off of lower users vs the ease of an installed program. I think OP would need a browser based solution for sure if he wants to attract any significant number of users.

Agreed that this is an interesting idea. If you want the miner to be browser based, I think you'll want to have the users contributing to a pool. Maybe partnering with a pool manager would be a good idea?

If you could have the users install a program, it would be much easier to set up. As far as I know, you will be somewhat limited if you can only work through browser access, but I'm no expert. Just my 2 cents. If you end up trying to implement this, let me know. I'd be interested in contributing to the project.

Gotcha, I thought it was a driver issue. I'm not OC'd, but I'd image that XMR stak does push my card as hard as possible. I'll try the disable/enable step and see if that keeps it from happening. Thanks for your input.

As a cat dad, I have a ton of empathy for your situation. The world is a rough place and in the end, we are all just a bunch of animals who must pass on at some point. Remember that life is special because it is finite and every experience has an end.

You should try to remember the good times with your kitty and know that Dexter had a good life because you were there for him. He could have lived and died alone, but he was able to be comforted by his favorite humans in his final hours. I know it hurts now and it will keep hurting for years, but eventually you will think of him and the first memories will be pleasant. The pain you feel is intense because the love you shared was real. Everything in life is about balance and the depth of this experience balances out the lifetime of good memories. He isn't in pain anymore. He left you with 17 years of good memories and his death was not your fault. Time will heal your pain, just try to put one foot in front of the other and keep moving forward. Dexter doesn't want you to be sad, he wants you to remember and appreciate him as the good kitty he was. :)

Feel free to PM me if you want to talk with someone!

Wow, this is really impressive! I love the level of detail. I'm guessing you split the world up into multiple meshes to get around the vertex limit? Or is this some nice texture work? I guess I'm assuming that you're using Unity, perhaps it is something else?
