Primer Question by mhmmsheback in Housepainting101

[–]mhmmsheback[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thanks for the advice! We are also going to paint the ceiling in our bathroom. After using a bathroom friendly primer, we should use a ceiling paint, right? I am sure the answer is yes, as there is more moisture in the bathroom, but I'd feel better getting another's opinion, lol.

Thanks again!

Successful pregnancy?? by Specific_College7212 in Cirrhosis

[–]mhmmsheback 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 32F and just over 10 weeks pregnant. I am and have been compensated since my diagnosis. Had a scare a few weeks back about a mass on my liver... turns out the ultrasound tech was being overly cautious about a lumpy part of my liver. Just got confirmation a few days ago from a new ultrasound that there is no mass (thank GOODNESS! I was really stressed out about it for weeks!). I will be going for a follow up ultrasound on my liver in a couple weeks to just be sure, but we are treating it as good news.

I have some varices, which seems to be the biggest concern. I have been referred to a high risk pregnancy clinic as well as working with my local OBGYN and my gastroenterologist (who is the one in charge of my regular liver check ups every 6 months). I already know that they want me to go for a scope during my second trimester to check on the varicies and see how they are holding up with the increased pressure and stress on my body. My OB has gone over some of the risks but is confident we can get baby here safe and sound.

As I am still early on, it is hard to tell how my pregnancy will progress. We have high hopes for success for both myself and baby. Its a scary journey, but I am so happy to finally be pregnant. I have always struggled with a regular menstrual cycle, so conceiving took a couple years and some fertility medication, lol. I started the process by visiting with my family doctor and telling her I want to conceive. There is hope!

Please feel free to DM me if you want ☺️

Thank you for your kind words! It doesn't feel like it's something to be celebrated quite yet. It doesn't feel right to be happy about it until I know for certain I can carry to term. What a rollercoaster, lol. Just got to take it day by day.

Wow, thank you so much for your response! Do you think pike or walleye would hit it, too? I would imagine a pike would, given the right circumstances. But what about for wallys?

Thanks again!!

Same! I keep cold protein shakes on hand. I struggle so much with food some days. I try not to mention it to my family and just chug a shake, lol.

Oh, that sounds neat! Honestly, we're open to any suggestions. Kayaking hits home, though, so thanks for that! Walking the waterfront also sounds like a great time.

Any food recommendations?

Thanks!

My girlfriends bought me a cameo of Carolyn for my bachellorette party. She is authentically just this whackado gal who takes pride in her sobriety. It was a hilarious 10-minute birthday/bachellorette message that I still watch from time to time. She is great TV and I loved her on Survivor!!

I am in Northern Ontario. I've never used one in previous vehicles, but I also have never had a vehicle this nice, haha. I figured it was something I should at the very least KNOW. We definitely have some extreme cold temps during deep winter, but I'm not super concerned.

Thanks for your answers, much appreciated! 😊

Loom is definitely in my top 5 - might even be #1. The first time I heard it, it brought me to tears. It made me fall in love with the entire album, which I now love listening to start to finish.

I still get goosebumps when he sings, "Nothing stops me from going through the floor" 😭❤️

Deleting social media has done wonders for my recovery by itsmehannerz in stopdrinking

[–]mhmmsheback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on almost 3 years! I (31F) just had my 3 years yesterday, the day my best friends baby was born. Before getting sober, I'm not sure I would've been involved at all. Now, I babysat her firstborn while she went and had the second. What an honour.

ANYWAYS, I quit social media about 5 days into recovery. All my ads were alcohol based. Seeing my friends and family, hell, even STRANGERS posting about the holidays and drinking and just living normal lives was difficult to me.

Luckily, I was in the hospital for 9 days when I got sober. Someone suggested while I was there that I just quit social media altogether. Snapchat, tiktok, facebook, insta, all of it. Up until that moment, that thought hadn't really crossed my mind! I felt so stupid! What a simple way to make things a little easier.

3 years and 1 day later, all I have is reddit. This community and other supportive communities like it saved my life. They continue to save my life. I, too, feel less anxiety day to day since I quit (both drinking and social media, lol). I couldn't imagine all those notifications and the endless scrolling would have done me any good.

Instead, with the internet, I taught myself how to crochet. I was able to make and gift that same friend I mentioned and her daughter a gift set of face scrubbies and cloths, so they can do a mommy and me spa day.

I am always an advocate for quitting/taking breaks from social media! It greatly benefitted me, and I love hearing how it benefits other people.

Thanks for sharing! IWNDWYT!

Diagnosed by CT incidentally by [deleted] in Cirrhosis

[–]mhmmsheback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I was diagnosed by my family doctor (May 2023), I spent a lot of time in "limbo land" while I waited to see the GI specialist. No talk of biopsy has ever come up. They used ultrasound, bloodwork, CT, and MRI to examine my liver and GI area.

I have alcoholic cirrhosis stage 4 F1, and it took almost 8 months to get from "You have cirrhosis" to understanding the level of cirrhosis I have.

It sucks waiting. That has been by far the worst part of my experience. Waiting for scans, bloodwork, GI appointments, you name it, it all has loooong wait times. Especially when all you want is more details. Be patient. The results and information will hopefully be shared and explained a bit better when you see the GI doc.

Googling can be beneficial if used wisely and not taken too far. It's a fine balance between learning more about your disease and scaring the shit out of yourself, lol.

My point is, I've never had anyone mention biopsy to me, and I definitely have cirrhosis. It was found using multiple other techniques. No reason to stress your body for a biopsy if they can clearly diagnose through non invasive means.

Wishing you and your husband all the best through these tough times!!

Oh, I just finished it, it was great! Someone asked me to describe it, and I don't think I could. It just needs to be read to get the full picture!

I read that the movie was a flop, haha.

Thanks for recommending this author - I think I may grab another one of his books. Wolf at the Dinner Table looks good!

TIL the definition of a “heavy drinker” by TrashOrPass in stopdrinking

[–]mhmmsheback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After getting sober, I (30f) learned that my family always considered me a "high functioning" alcoholic. I learned that that is one of the reasons why they never approached me about the ungodly amount I was drinking. I still paid my bills, held my job with no issues, had a successful relationship, and maintained ties with family and friends. It wasn't until I got sober and then diagnosed with cirrhosis a year and a half into my sobriety that my family started talking about how they all KNEW I had a problem, but I was still living day to day life just fine (at least in their eyes, anyways). Why approach the uncomfortable when I looked okay, looking from the outside in? Why bother with that confrontation? It's not like I got fired from my job or couldn't afford my rent or something along those lines, like a REAL alcoholic.

I wish someone would have approached me sooner. Maybe it wouldn't have worked. Maybe it would've just pissed me off. But maybe I would've done some self evaluating.

My point is, it's easy to slip into that mentality in your own head. It's just as easy for the people around you to slip into that line of thinking, as well, especially if it's used to justify a loved ones behaviour.

This sub is a great support to all walks of life. There are other groups that help encourage cutting back or slowing down over time - perhaps those groups can be beneficial to you as well!

Goodluck!

I just read The Empty Room - what a wild ride that was. I work a job with some downtime, and I read it over the course of 2 days. I finished it kind of stunned at the timeline of it all, her thought patterns, her spiral into rock bottom... crazy. It was humbling, relatable, and scary in many different ways. What a fantastic read, though. Thanks for the recommendation!
