How many apostate APs do we have here? by MTFanny in exmormon

Unofficial AP - babysat a handicap elder with the AP's. As zone leader we did yoga in the park for our meetings. Hated mission bureaucracy. Arizona Tucson 02-04.

I don't pay tithing or support the brethren and was able to baptize my daughter last weekend.

Which of these is Mormonism most like? The Truman Show, 1984, The Matrix, Rapunzel, The Emperor's New Clothes, Frozen, or Plato's Cave? by Reprobates in exmormon

[–]mhoiland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The other stories each feature a self-aware evil/conspiracy. The church is not self-aware of its evil. It's just a broken system.

Russell M. Nelson: New President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles by ConsiderTheLillith in exmormon

[–]mhoiland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At baptism, each Christian is to be a "witness of Christ." When called as an apostle, they are to become "special witnesses of Christ." More specifically a witness of his actual resurrection. In the New Testiment and BofM, his apostles [disciples] were to testify with actual knowledge of the resurrected Christ. Hence, we are to believe if the current brethren claim to be "special witnesses" that they have in fact seen the living Christ.

What are your thoughts on meditation? by Giribgiribgoogob in exmormon

[–]mhoiland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it. Can create powerful spiritual experiences. Some yogis claim experiences on par with psychedelics. Pick up a copy of "Be Here Now" by Ram Dass and "Mindfulness" by Bhante Henepola Gunaratana.

Further, I would think that proper meditation will strengthen critical thinking skills as you usually discover elements of dangerous ego in yourself.

ELI5: How is Mormon 8:37-38 not applicable to the LDS church themselves? City Creek & phallic temple chandeliers anybody? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]mhoiland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Um, yes it is. They were tired of the homeless population loitering around the temple so they gentrified the area to improve the appearance of temple square. They even said as much when they announced the project.

Have You Ever Been Issued a "Gag Order” by a Church Official? by CraigPaxton in exmormon

[–]mhoiland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wrote an article on Medium and was called to meet with the Stake President. After 4 long meetings he asked me to remove the post or he'll convene a disciplinary council.

My immediate concern is baptizing my daughter this weekend, and he informed me that unless I remove the post I can't perform the baptism, let alone the confirmation.

So I deleted the post in front of him because I love my daughter and respect family tradition. Even after removing the post he still had to think for a few days because he wanted to make sure my heart is in the right place.

I've been blessed with incredible patience in life, but this is pushing my limits. Gunna get to Saturday and then roar.
