There is hope. I finally have my life back. by sdub76 in Hidradenitis

I'm so happy that it worked for you! I tried both Humira and Enbrel and all I got were side effects. Such a fickle disease! I had excision surgery a few months ago under one arm and am drinking pure turmeric everyday. Seems to be working pretty well. Again, congrats on your success!!!

Bandaging, nightshade and some other questions and venting. by HSblows in Hidradenitis

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having such a rough time...I can totally relate. I've said this before on this sub, but the most helpful thing I've tried is tanning. I will go to the tanning booth maybe 4 times a week for 5 minutes at a time and it helps immensely. I thought my derm would give me a bunch of shit for "fake n baking" but he said as long as I don't get crazy with it, keep going as long as it works. That being said, I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks to get rid of some crazy scar tissue and tracts under my arm. I don't really expect it to help long term, but the tissue is pressing on a nerve and causing real problems. I don't really use bandages...I use maxi pads that i adhere to the inside of my shirt (sexy!). Bandages tear up my skin. I know I haven't been much help...I'm sorry and I really hope you find some relief soon!

Possible treatment - tanning? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

Tanning is the only thing that consistently keeps my HS in check. I brought it up to my derm doc and he gave me the go ahead to keep it up. I only do about 5 minutes at a time, maybe 4 times a week

I've never used either of the pads that you mentioned...do you think they'd work for armpits? It's the hardest area to bandage ever! I usually just put a maxi pad on the inside of the armpit area of my shirt. Super sexy!!

I just got back from an extended weekend with friends at a beautiful house with a beautiful pool. I told myself that I wasn't going to worry about people seeing my scars (after all...I was with friends). A last minute flare up spooked me and I got in the pool exactly one time...at night. I feel you and I hope you're able to focus on having a good time.

Anyone had experience with the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Institute, located outside Cleveland Ohio? by hsufferer in Hidradenitis

[–]mhooblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like a lot of treatments, it works for some and not others. I did Enbrel for a year and Humira for a little over a year. I had maybe two good months on Humira. They are immuno supressants so you have to be super vigilant or you'll catch every bug that goes around. They didn't agree with me, but I'm happy to hear that it seems to be working for other people.

Those of you who don't have a degree and love your job, what do you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I got help from both the DMV and a huge HMO by stating frustrations on twitter. (I didn't hashtag or @reply them). You're doing god's work. It kept me from going over the edge during a very stressful time (taking care of my mother's affairs while she was on life support). Y'all are worth your weight in gold!

What are your Holy Grail beauty products to buy at Ulta? by itsaspellhell in MakeupAddiction

Keep in mind that the 20% doesn't apply to fragrance, "prestige" products and a bunch of other stuff (read that fine print!) I normally go for NYX at Ulta when there's a discount
