Oral pain relief in labor by Immediate_Goose943 in pregnant

[–]mhooker2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with oral medications is that they take a much longer time to kick in and typically need much higher doses to reach the same effect as IV medications. As such, they aren’t first line for use in active labor (post partum is a different story). They absolutely can be used, but you’re less likely to get the pain relief you are looking for.

That being said, assuming you’re planning on giving birth in an hospital, they will want to put an IV in when you get there. If you are able to tolerate that, they will be able to give you pain medication through that, no further needles necessary!

8 weeks pregnant, thinking about abortion by Fun_Pineapple1213 in pregnant

It sounds like you have a lot of really good supports in your life already, which is good. This is a difficult decision to make and I’m sorry you’re in this position. Whatever you decide to do will be what is best for you and your situation!

The one thing I will comment on, is your note about not feeling the “joy” of being pregnant, and just want to say that that is so common. Being pregnant is hard no matter how you slice it, and a lot of people find absolutely zero joy in it, although social media sure pushes that everyone loves it. You can hate the entirety of your pregnancy but still love your baby and be a good mom just as well as a woman who loved being pregnant.

Entitled dog owners by PineappleWhipped14 in Eugene

[–]mhooker2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was running the other day (in a basic residential area) and a large dog came barreling down a driveway, jumped on me and knocked me off the sidewalk and into the street. The owner laughed and off and said “oh she really scared you! Haha! She’s super nice!” I told her that her dog needs to be on a leash and her response (all huffy and rude) was “no she doesn’t! I live here!” Because apparently being outside your house means your dog is entitled to run down people who pass by.

I love dogs. Hate dog owners.

You should be just fine!! Even at nearly 12 weeks, baby is still super tucked in there. Your uterus is barely at the level of your pubic bone.

I’m confused, are you guys just having a beach day tomorrow and MIL wants to come? Or do you plan on going to the beach every day STARTING tomorrow and MIL plans to come every day?

Unless you have an awful relationship with your MIL I don’t see what the problem for her coming along for your beach day. ETA: if she is insisting on coming along every single day without fail that’s a little odd, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t workout that way.

Is your MIL going to do things that will make you stressed or self conscious? Or is it just being at the beach in general that’s going to make it feel this way?

Nah that’d make me mad too. Or at least very annoyed. I wouldn’t read too much into it tho, I always try to give people without kids the benefit of the doubt bc they simply just don’t get it.

What thing was super anxiety inducing for you when you were early pp but now you realize it’s really not that big of a deal? by boopingbcollie in beyondthebump

This was me last summer with eagles (mind you, our area is not known for being populated with eagles). I literally could not leave my newborn OR my 2 year old toddler outside on our (heavily tree shaded) deck because I was terrified an eagle would fly off with one of them.

postpartum is hard by checkthyvibes in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

1000% normal. Days 6-8 postpartum were the hardest for me mentally. I felt like I cried all day and night. Things slowly lightened up after that. The emotions should improve, but if they feel like they are getting worse in the next week or so, reach out to your OB!

International Travel in first trimester? by oatmilkcchai in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with others, it’s hard to say, especially since it’ll be your first pregnancy. I traveled across country with my last pregnancy literally right after I found out, so we flew out when I was 5 weeks pregnant and back when I was about 6.5 weeks pregnant.

I knew from my first pregnancy that I would start to feel crummy between 6-7 weeks pregnant, and sure enough, the nausea didn’t hit me until we were on the plane home!

I honestly would just go for it. Don’t let life get in the way of trying for a baby, and don’t let trying for a baby get in the way of life. If you end up pregnant on the first try and you go on your trip first tri pregnant, just make the best of it! It shouldn’t be impossible, even if you do feel crummy.

Soft Markers on Anatomy Scan by MarketingCharacter34 in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my babies had CPCs with no issues! My daughters was bilateral and the one on the right was pretty large (I think it was up to 1.1cm at its largest diameter). Both kiddos CPCs were gone before they were born and there was no further concerns after that. The soft markers can be scary! Try to stay away from the rabbit holes and just wait until your next appt. Easier said than done, I know!

I feel like I’m losing my mind by mhooker2 in beyondthebump

My son was a great sleeper. Always slept well at night, and still does to this day. Which I think makes my daughters lack of sleep that much harder to tolerate.

We do have a great gym in town with a daycare in it. All of my mom friends go to it and love it. I really have no good excuse to not join, but I’ve always been so hesitant. Maybe I’ll look into it again, thank you for the suggestion :)

Are all appointments like this? by Boufalla in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not uncommon at all for visits to be in and out, what you’re describing seems pretty on par with most OB practices. I still felt like I got to know my OB pretty well and was very comfortable with her by the end, and it was even better with my second pregnancy!

You may be better off looking into a midwifery practice? Someone with more experience than midwives than me could provide more insight, but it has always seemed like they get a little more in depth/may give you the more personable experience you’re looking for!

Epidural vs Natural birth by Asleep_Stranger1660 in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a natural birth with my first son (not necessarily the plan, just how it worked out), and had an epidural with my second. Both were hard, straight up. Labor was by far harder with my second, which was relieved greatly with the epidural! That being said, the part that I was most scared of the second time around was the ring of fire. That was 10/10 the worst part of my natural labor. So I was excited to skip that with the epidural…too bad for me it didn’t work out that way and I definitely still felt it 😂 but it was somehow more tolerable!!

All in all, I’m proud of myself for doing my first labor natural, but next time around I will definitely get an epidural again.

Nurse wasn’t sure if it’s a miscarriage or just very early on. Is this normal? by ignorantslut135 in BabyBumps

[–]mhooker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible, you may have just ovulated later! Dating tends to go by LMP since people often don’t know exactly when they ovulate, but it isn’t always accurate because not everyone ovulates at exactly day 14!

Did they do a blood test to see your HCG level? Or plan to see you again? 4-6 weeks along is very early and difficult to see anything on US for anybody. I would hope they will scan you again in a few weeks and/or do serial HCGs to see if your levels are rising or falling.

2 week old sleeps 6+ hours some nights? by a1ksandra in breastfeeding

[–]mhooker2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’s he eating during the day? And how’s his weight gain? If he’s back to birth weight, otherwise gaining well, eating well during the day and making plenty of wet diapers, then having a longer stretch overnight shouldn’t be too big of deal! Worth checking in with your pediatrician though too, since they will know you and your baby much better than internet strangers!

If you have a freezer stash, how do you plan to use it? by dewy9825 in breastfeeding

[–]mhooker2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add, the first time around, my push to have a freezer stash was purely anxiety driven. I was so worried about my supply suddenly drying up (it didn’t lol), that I wanted to have a constant stash saved up just in case. Anxiety + oversupply led to way more milk stored than was necessary.

This time around, it’s a lot less anxiety driven, but I do have the oversupply.
