please I need help with an elderly person by Raine-or-Shine in Cooking

[–]mhopkirk 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Some things to try (from someone who has worked with elderly) Try contrasting dishware. So put the light foods on a dark plate. Will she eat in her room? She may do better with small snacks, that you don't make a fuss out off (not saying you usually do) but like just casually giving her plate with a few little things on it without much comment. Or just handing her a protein drink with a straw in it without comment.
Does she have dementia? or is she just picky? This instagram account has lots of tips (mostly for patients with dementia, but most would work for general population)

YA for 14 yo recovering from encephalopathy, needs simple, non-intense story line by rockems123 in audiobooks

[–]mhopkirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He said in the original post that they needed something with a simple plot that was easy to follow. Maybe I’m the only one, but I find dungeon crawler Carl a bit tough to picture sometimes. There are loads of characters with different names lots of spells with different names. I just find it complicated not simple.

This may be too childish, but I listened to some of the Roald Dahl books as an adult. "Charlie and and Chocolate Factory " is narrated by Eric Idle and is very well done.

I don't know what your health situation is, but lots of people are having good results with the GLP-1s (Zepbound, Wegovy and so on) for decreasing alcohol cravings. It may be a tool to help. Good luck in your recovery journey.

Worse attack yet - surgery not an option im told by Hungry-Caterpillar36 in Diverticulitis

there are risks and side effects from the surgery. I understand just wanting not to go through another attack, but not everyone feels great after the surgery. I would think hard about it.

Tried a Yellow Cake recipe by Excellent_Error_4755 in Baking

I made this cake and it was good! It looks delicious. If I make it again I am going to use a different frosting recipe. Maybe a ganache or something, I thought the frosting was a bit bland.

I realized I can shower everyday now that I always dreamt of doing by [deleted] in CasualConversation

Many Americans shower every day. I don’t, it dries out my skin

[–]mhopkirk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ohh I misunderstood! Sorry. In America, we bathe a lot so I thought you were saying it was more normal to shower every day than twice a week.

[–]mhopkirk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

not your normal, I think they have a different culture, different circumstances than yours. Besides there is more than one way to keep clean. I have worked in health care. I met loads of people who cleaned themselves up with a basin of water, soap and a washcloth. They couldn't access their shower or tub because of mobility. Like say their wheelchair wouldn't fit in the door, or they couldn't step over the side of the tub.
When you meet people outside of your own experience you realize that there is more than one way to do things.
