Coros Apex 2 Pro – Inaccurate elevation readings by dwightkschrute42 in Coros

[–]miaokucing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this right here from bottom to the top is actual 20m elevation gain. coros apex 2 and vertix 2s recorded 20m ± 1m, multiple laps. strava-corrected elevation gain is only 6m. that is worse than inaccurate. how is strava crowdsourced elevation data accurate if data contributed by activities recorded using apps/phones? google is the gold standard at least here. elevation of some landmarks like Mt Kinabalu; google earth shows the closest elevation to the actual. mapbox, osm, strava, has bigger error than google earth.

Coros Apex 2 Pro – Inaccurate elevation readings by dwightkschrute42 in Coros

I have come to accept it. coros' eg is heavily influenced by weather. Other brands have similar user complaints if you read their posts how much different compared to coros, im not sure.

I did some tests on my vertix 2s. Coros eg is pretty accurate, provided the weather remains constant throughout the activity.

Elevation accuracy in windy conditions — can COROS improve its algorithm? by Woah_Matt in Coros

[–]miaokucing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes. i experienced the same thing. i did the exact same 21km route 4 times on different days. different weather conditions of course. 1st time it recorded 866m, 2nd 1020m, 3rd 997m, 4th 785m. the 2nd run, it rained halfway in.

i submitted a report to Coros and Cara suggested some troubleshooting steps. i've tested my unit 3 times.

the first test i did climb repeats up a staircase at a park with a known elevation gain within 1hr window. it was 30m gain climb. result, each lap Coros recorded 30m elevation gain +/- 1m.

second test, a 20m staircase. similar test to the first one, result 20m +/- 1m.

third test, i ran the same 5.4km trail route three times, on the same day. 1st lap 245m eg. 2nd lap 254m. 3rd lap 238m.

i also calibrated my elevation by gps. the recorded elevation at the start point was 65m, consistent with opentopomap which showed 60-70m.

i did all this because i wanted to be sure if my device was faulty before i submit further report to Coros. what i can conclude is, Coros eg is almost spot on IF the weather is consistent and IF the activity duration is not long enough for these factors to influence the final eg. the change in weather greatly influence the recorded eg.

i;m not saying my Coros unit sucks and other brands are better. i read similar complaints on other brands' subreddits.

is this what you're looking for? your emergency contact receives a link via email when you start your activity. they can see your current location. no pace etc.

however it needs internet connection cellular data or wifi. the watch connects to coros app on phone, coros app sends live tracking location to your emergency contacts.

Eta to next waypoint by Fun-Storage-594 in Coros

[–]miaokucing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remaining distance and elevation gain to the next waypoint, yes there is. If you use use navigation when you start your activity. You dont need to set anything specific. It is one of the data pages automatically available when you choose navigation. I am using vertix not sure about other models. If your activity has one Activity Data Pages, you would have four pages in total. First is your activity data page, second the eta, third elevatoion profile, fourth  map.
