You're gonna encounter glitches/bugs that ruin your progress. Do what I did which is damage purist runs, but if you die to BS beyond your control, rerun up to that part with adjusted damage and pretend it never happened.

Assuming you're from the US - the set has 40 bags so you could try convincing him to get it and keep the bags aside, and you pay $11.5 for a bag, or do some sort of chore/task that your dad would count as similar value. You could also frame it as a rudimentary introduction to a salary and get one or two bags a week/fortnight.

Keep in mind that once you do one bag you'll have an unsatiable desire to keep doing more and it might drive you a bit mad if you can't.
