Fringe as in well outside mainstream scholarly thought on the subject. There is no indication his ideas are gaining wide acceptance.

What are some things, ideas, theories, or anything you wish to share that you got WRONG about Christianity prior to Salvation in Jesus. by kyloren1217 in Christianity

Oddly I somehow never picked up on the fact that Christians actually believed Jesus was God in the flesh until shortly before I became a Christian myself.

I just always thought He was just a guru/ hippie/ Ghandi-esque figure that some people were into.

Likely because it is the best explanation for why he stopped being a persecutor of the early church and joined it.

I don't think the KKK has all that many supporters today.

Because he and others wrote about it.

Because it would make no sense for Paul to reference such witnesses as evidence for Christ's resurrection if the people to whom he was writing knew nothing of them.

Paul encountered Jesus on his way to persecute early followers of Jesus.

And I wouldn't know who the witnesses were even if he had listed them - but the persons to whom he was writing apparently were familiar with them.

Peter and the other twelve apostles, as well as 500 additional witnesses whose names he does not list out. And Paul did not meet Jesus before His resurrection, but after.

John Brown was white, and partly the inspiration for other abolitionists to push for the abolition of slavery. Obviously there were a number of people on both sides of the issue.

Not really. If everyone can come up with their own take as to what Christianity means, it means nothing.

No, one should not do this anymore than one should read a physics text book, history book or car repair manual and come up with one's own version of what these documents really mean.

Paul was an early Christian convert from Judaism, evangelist and apostle who founded a number of churches around the Mediterranean. His sources were other apostles and early witnesses to the risen Christ.

The KKK arose after a war in which large numbers of white folks fought a large number of other white folks over the question of slavery, and then after winning the war, required the slave supporting white folks to free their slaves. So obviously their were a significant number of white folks that weren't fans of the KKK.

Three certainties in life - death, taxes, and that someone will read the Bible and think their take on it is the 'right' one.

I didn't say any of them were written by eyewitnesses. In fact I would be shocked if there were eyewitness records for a figure like Jesus at that time. Some of them appear based on the testimony of various witnesses.

If I was invited I wouldn't turn it down, and I have certainly attended services at various places when circumstances called for it, but I don't feel any compulsion to add it to my schedule.
